Something to be aware of when buying phones like the Zopo and Newman and most other Chinese dual-SIM phones. Is that these are often coming from wholesalers in Shenzhen, China, which means
caveat emptor(let the buyer beware). For example a phone might have 850MHz WCDMA in the stated specs, and you subsequently find it doesn't work in the States...
tough luck, or the vendor refuses to honour the warranty...again tough luck. These phones are really intended for use in China.
People should also read the forum sticky about many of these phones as well...

IMHO that is a good warning to pass and I think it definitely cavaet emptor as noted !! Having typed that, as part of my research before ordering my phone I have read as many, if not more accounts of users satisfied, as those dissatisfied with their phones purchased from a Chinese supplier.
Out of curiosity and a desire to obtain features I can not yet obtain in any non-Chinese phone, not to mention at a reasonable price, I elected to procure such a phone.. That may prove to be a mistake or it may prove this time to be OK. Not yet having received the phone (I only ordered it last night) I do not yet know. But things I did to try to mitigate the not to be underestimated risk was:
- look for youtube, forum, blog, website and other posts with reviews , gripes, problems , fan boy raves about the phones I was considering to try to narrow down the selection,
- look with (per the above point) in different languages using a browser set to automatically translate into English so I could read in English various foreign language assessments
- compare the specs on different suppliers web sites to see if there were inconsistencies (i.e. where there is smoke there could be fire)
- research the different Chinese suppliers to try and form an assessment as to which suppliers of the different manufacturers phones were more reputable
- purchase a phone already root'd with Chinese apps removed
Will the above help? I don't know yet, but I am curious and hopeful. It was a learning experience for me thus far as to do the above I had to learn a bit about smartphone and telecommunications specifications/standards/implementations.
