Best DUAL SIM android phone?

Can anyone post detailed review of Huawei U8836D please ?? Please note t hat some people on xdadevelopers have complained that Newman N1 and ZTE V960 have got poor battery and i decided to not consider them ....I request any owner to post review of this phone

It is the best battery of a dual sim phone i have ever had.

Actually the Samsung I929 Galaxy S II Duos is CDMA 800/1900 & CDMA2000 1xEV-DO. It's sold by China Telecom for use on their CDMA2000/EV-DO network.

That's correct, Samsung would never launch a CDMA/CDMA2000 phone in Europe. Because AFAIK Europe is UMTS/WCDMA only, as well as GSM.

Sure, that

On a different note, I pulled the trigger on a Zopo ZP500. Thanks to The Solutor who mentioned the ZP100, I found the website for Zopo and picked the 500.

On a similar note, I have just ordered the Zopo ZP500+.

It should arrive in a couple of weeks and I'll see how it goes. I wanted a relatively inexpensive Android Smart phone with Dual SIM, Dual Core, and Quad Band (2G: 850/900/1800/1900 and 3G: 850/2100) so that I can use it in Asia, Europe and North America for both voice and data, and its specs matched my requirements. I have my fingers crossed that I'll like it. This will be my first Android Smart phone.

Just ordered the Newman N1 from Etotalk! Hope everything is OK, I'll post if anything is not mentioned/commented by the time it arrives.

I was tempted by the Newman N1 as it reads to be a good phone and it is developing a large following (which is good as it can lead to superior 3rd party support). However for my requirements I want a phone with North American 3G (in addition to Asian/European) which equates to WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ 850. There is conflicting information on the Newman N1 in this regard and I have read at least 3 user reports on the N1 that note it does not support 3G 850. The English Newman website only has 3G 900/2100 noted (contrary to the Chinese language web site).

If not for my North American data coverage requirement I may have purchased the Newman N1 instead of the smartphone that I selected instead.

Something to be aware of when buying phones like the Zopo and Newman and most other Chinese dual-SIM phones. Is that these are often coming from wholesalers in Shenzhen, China, which means caveat emptor(let the buyer beware). For example a phone might have 850MHz WCDMA in the stated specs, and you subsequently find it doesn't work in the States...tough luck, or the vendor refuses to honour the warranty...again tough luck. These phones are really intended for use in China.

People should also read the forum sticky about many of these phones as well...

So I got the ZTE V970 and recieved it yesterday. Almost everything works as it should except that the phone thinks I'm roaming.

I am using my Swedish SIM (Tele2) that is both recognized correctly and lets me surf (if I allow roaming). In my old phone (bought in Sweden) the SIM works correctly but does not think I'm roaming. I am using the etotalk custom ROM.

Are there any settings or such that I should change to make it understand that it's NOT roaming? I have checked the APN settings and those are correct. Are there any country settings I need to set? Does the phone think that it's "home country" is China?

EDIT: I changed my IMEI numbers from 86** to 35** but it still says roaming. My provider sent me an SMS with APN information though. I choose that APN but still roaming.

I had that as well with a United Kingdom Samsung Galaxy S, using it in China with a China Mobile SIM. This was with stock Samsung software as well as CyanogenMod7. The "R" indicator was on, but it was never roaming. Didn't happen all the time, it seemed to come and go. I just let it think it was roaming, it seemed quite happy about it. Didn't happen in Hong Kong though with a Three HK SIM.

Perhaps they do it because they're feeling homesick or something? Like your ZTE is pining for China Mobile and my late Samsung was pining for Vodafone? Same thing might happen when take my current Lenovo to the UK, and use it with a British SIM.

IMHO that is a good warning to pass and I think it definitely cavaet emptor as noted !! Having typed that, as part of my research before ordering my phone I have read as many, if not more accounts of users satisfied, as those dissatisfied with their phones purchased from a Chinese supplier.

Out of curiosity and a desire to obtain features I can not yet obtain in any non-Chinese phone, not to mention at a reasonable price, I elected to procure such a phone.. That may prove to be a mistake or it may prove this time to be OK. Not yet having received the phone (I only ordered it last night) I do not yet know. But things I did to try to mitigate the not to be underestimated risk was:

- look for youtube, forum, blog, website and other posts with reviews , gripes, problems , fan boy raves about the phones I was considering to try to narrow down the selection,

- look with (per the above point) in different languages using a browser set to automatically translate into English so I could read in English various foreign language assessments

- compare the specs on different suppliers web sites to see if there were inconsistencies (i.e. where there is smoke there could be fire)

- research the different Chinese suppliers to try and form an assessment as to which suppliers of the different manufacturers phones were more reputable

- purchase a phone already root'd with Chinese apps removed

Will the above help? I don't know yet, but I am curious and hopeful. It was a learning experience for me thus far as to do the above I had to learn a bit about smartphone and telecommunications specifications/standards/implementations.

My NEWMAN N1 arrived and it is perfect! Fast, no bugs so far (3 days), battery life is good (2 days of browsing - WIFI and 3G, gps, games, talking, etc), touch screen is ok (not as precise as the galaxy s3, but still fine), the etotalk rom has got everyting and I am very pleased with my purchase. I'll post my further impressions soon :).

Glad to read the NEWMAN N1 works with 3G. May I ask where do you live ? In Europe ?

I have read conflicting accounts on the NEWMAN N1's 3G 850Mhz coverage. Some sites say it provides 850MHz for 3G, and other's say it does not.

I live in Bulgaria, Europe - no problem with the 3G network here (except I had to manually configure the APN settings). The 850Mhz issue - sorry, mate, just don't know.

Thanks for the information. While I also live in Europe, I travel to North America to visit family, typically at least once/year.

I may recommend this phone to some of my European colleagues who unlike me, have no plans to visit North America.

... the etotalk rom has got everyting ...

Glad to read you are happy with the etotalk prom for the NEWMAN N1. I also ordered my ZOPO ZP500+ from etotalk, and selected the etotalk rom. ... Because I ordered an extra larger battery, there is a slow down in the processing and the phone has not yet completed the processing (ie it has not yet been shipped to me from China).

My NEWMAN N1 arrived and it is perfect! Fast

The NEWMAN N1 was my planned purchase, until I learned of the 3G 850MHz possibly not being implemented. With its 1GB RAM the NEWMAN N1 should be much faster than the ZOPO ZP500+ that I ordered.

and I am very pleased with my purchase. I'll post my further impressions soon :).

I am looking forward to reading them.

I live in Turkey but travel to the US so need quad band. Have a cell phone that I have to carry 24/7 but also carry a personal phone for Turkey, and another that I carry when I go to the US. None of them are dual sim capable.
Help please. I am not tech savvy, but need guidance to keep my number of phones down.

Samsung Galaxy Y Duos. It's a quality-dual SIM, has the US bands, and is from a manufacturer you've actually heard of.

I also like the Lenovo P700i, my phone, although it's Chinese Android, and it's best if you can read Chinese. Probably not so suitable for use in Turkey or the States. But it's from a manufacturer that most people will have heard of.

I've read some suppliers will provide a phone rooted with various Chinese apps removed. The manual may be in Chinese, but the phone should presumeably work in one's own langauge (if supported by the custom PROM inserted by the supplier and supported by the Android OS). For example etotalk provide a Lenovo P700i with the "ETOtalk ROM MOD" . This is what their description says in this case:
What is Etotalk MOD ROM?

Now most of China branded phones come without google play store (android market) and only Chinese because they are for selling in China only, so they are locked and unrooted, if you need to use it well in other countries, you may select our etotalk mod rom.

Etotalk MOD ROM is built by etotalk engineering team, which will optimize the phone performance based on the official firmware.

The service package includes Multi Language OS, Google Play Store, Unlocked and Rooted. It will also delete all non-useful Chinese apps.
Note: this service is for preinstalled only, not including the rom file.

Typically when ordering, one advises them as to what language the phone should be initially setup using (ie the default as delivered to the customer).

Guys,
Having used viewsonic v350 in the past and motorola xt532 recently, i am looking to get a new phone now. I have not been following the thread in the last few months and wondering if anyone would mind summarising the best sellers known so far? Preferably ICS+ OS and 3g+GSM.

Also, I am pretty sure there is no 4G+3G or 4G+GSM phones out yet - does anyone know if any there are any in the pipeline? I can wait a couple of months if someone is intending to introduce a 4G phone.

Many thanks
