Root Best EVO ROM

warhawk18

Newbie
Before I root my EVO i want to see what you guys think the best roms are. Please post screenshots and the ame of the rom.

Let me pose another question. Have you looked through some yourself and just can't decide or is this an attempt for people to put a list together so that you don't have to?

here is why I ask. People will have a tendancy to just list their favorite. I like Myn's RLS5, as can be seen in my device info. I haven't tried them all, but this has been my favorite so far (out of maybe five or so). See where I am coming from? We sort of need to know what you want before we can go further.

As far as I know there is currently not a 2.3 ROM with sense out to the public from HTC. Custom roms with sense in them are essentially tweaks of official releases. It will take HTC to release Gingerbreads with Sines 2.0 for one of their devices to get what you are looking for.

I use Sprint Lovers and I like it a lot. Very smooth. No problems whatsoever. You can check it out at xda.

I'm running that uhh.... frick.

Kings modified version of CM7, basically. It's 2.3, and yes, it has issues. None that I can't live with.

Personally, the added stuff (and sprint-ware removal) is nice on CM7. I'm glad I chose to ditch sense all together. I can use a wii-controller for my emulators... I can do HDMI out mirroring now (huzzah!), 4G works now (selectively, but meh), etc.

Nice.

Since I'm a flashoholic I just flash away just to check out hoer I like the rom. Now for me I used to be a sense guy, but kings gb rom rocks. But good ones top try as far as sense goes would be mikfroyo 4.5 and kings ultra black r3. Great, stable, and fast. The only way to find out is to check them out. The list for most roms are in my sig. ref#2.

++1 ^^
I thought the first rom I flashed was the best, then the second... I must have flashed over 30 roms + its versions and at times thought every other one was my fav...

Gingerbread roms are very popular, but im not a big fan because it requires too much tinkering. gps used to work for me but not with the latest updates. I like optimized close to stock looking, slightly themed, fast, everything stable and working, theres roms like that out.

What i would suggest is if you see a rom that interests you check out its thread see what users are saying about it.

Gotta just flash away! then you learn more of what you would want in a rom.

If you like Sense but want to get rid of the bloatware and have a smoother experience, I'd recommend either MikFroyo or Myns Warm. Both very good. I am currently using MikFroyo and love it. I tried Cyanogen and it was not for me at all. Too much stuff missing that I got used to with Sense.

I have not tried SprintLovers yet.

Might as well throw in a recommendation for Myn's WarmZ - I like it better than Koni/Mik rom's and its very nicely themed as well as fast.

If you want something truly different, you need to try MIUI as well.

And as usual, always nandroid and be safe!

I am currently running virusrom on my evo. And I love it, but it's only my 2nd rom. As I've only just entered the customrom world. But with Roms it's like going to buy a car, one guy may love the Toyota Prius, and the other guy may love the dodge challenger. It's all about what works good for you.

Obviously don't get any of the developer roms just starting out.

Common misconceptions and other useful information (Updated 10/12/2010) - xda-developers

What ROM works best for me? I see this a lot.

Answer: I don't know, nor does anyone else. This is like asking your buddy at the party which girl you should try and hook up with.

You have to try a few because we all have our preferences. (ROMS, not the women!) Some like Sense, some hate it. Some want a stock ROM with added features, others want a totally customized ROM that is radically different that stock (like CM6). You know you have the right ROM when it has everything you want and everything you use works. You have to try as many as you can until you find the right one for you.

A better thing to do is tell people what you want in a ROM and ask what ROM they suggest after they get an idea of what you are looking for. Try their suggestions but still try a few that seem to be what you are looking for. The first post in all of the ROM pages on here have detailed information about the ROM; read up and find out what the ROM has to offer. If you need your phone for important stuff (like work), I highly suggest you do not use a RC (release candidate) or especially a Beta ROM (unless the description claims everything works). It may decide not to work at the worst possible moment!

If you are happy with your phone at stock yet want to have the benefits of being rooted with super user ability, use a stock ROM that is already rooted.

You also have to be aware that some ROMS can have issues. Sometimes stuff will not work when you try and use them (for example, 4G, HDMI, Cameras, and FM Radio to name a few). You really have to read the known problems and if it sounds like something you use will not work or if you want a completely 100% working device, do not use a ROM that says something is not working. Double that if it is something you use often.

Lastly, if you really want a ROM that has everything you want, you will have to learn how to make your own. Please do, I have released the second version of my ROM, feel free to check it out! (Link is in my signature)
