Best SMS messaging app?

I have been using Handcent, just switched to GoSMS. I like the smaller foot print but the jury is still out on the lack of themes and cutomization.

Uninstalled it. It does not have a notification LED and Handcent, ChompSMS and others do, including the stock. :-(

Are you sure? I got an update this morning with the New Year theme and I don't see an option for the LED notification

Yes it is in there in the options... settings... Notification settings... then go into the other notification settings and it is at the bottom under LED settings.

I like go sms. Only thing i don't like is it wont seperate messages like Handcent when I send a group message
How are you sending the same message to more than one? After the first name, it does not bring up any names when I start inputing letters.

Thanks.

Click on the "+" sign to the right side of the "To:" field and the contact list will show, go down the list and click on the contacts you want to send the message to.

I've had handcent for months and it does everything I need, but since latest update, when I select names from the contact list via the '+' button as described above, they are not added to the recipient field. It doesn't matter if I select one or 20 and whether I use the back button or menu, end select, nothing shows in my new message. The only way I can select recipients is to type at least the first 2 letters and scroll down from there. Is anyone else having this issue? I looked at the app comments in the market and though people are mentioning issues since last update, this one specifically is not reported. It worked prior to the update. I've tried rebooting and have checked the stock app and it's working in there, but I don't want to change back as I like handcent's features.

I am trying GoSMS at the moment and found it to be very good, they are good at releasing updates to repair any issues or suggestions that people tell them about.
It seems to be getting better with each update, so just hope it stays like this + it is ad free
Was using chomp before but found it had become really slow and lagged, tried handcent but did not like it.
GoSMS team also have other good apps and they are free
Why cant android look at these apps that are on the market and update the stock sms and make it more interesting, then people would not have to look for apps like this

I have tried, CHOMP, GO SMS and most recent HANDCENT. No reason why I typed in all caps. I am back on stock sms and because of that use a notifier pop up...when I get text.

Any other suggestions?

I really like GoSMS, but the popup only keeps the screen awake for 2 seconds. All the other apps with popups keep it on for 30 seconds. Anyone know how to keep screen on longer with the popup from GoSMS?

used handcent , uninstalled it, now installed go sms but i feel the stock sms messaging is the best, I miss the old message boxes, inbox, sent, outbox, drafts, saved messages which I had in my nokia, is there any messaging software which will classify messages into different boxes so that if I send 50 messages to my friend and receive 50 messages from me I wont have to go everytime through a single 100 messages thread. I want inbox to be seperate where each message has a thread like they had in earlier mobiles ;(

Tried Handcent earlier this week but didn't like it. After sending a group messaage I was expecting that group to be listed in the 'recent' list next time I sent a message to that group but it had split them into individual contacts. At least the stock keeps groups even though you have to find them each time. Will give GOSMS a try.

just tried gosms...things that i couldnt find:

setting to allow mobile numbers only
couldnt find my custom mp3 ringtones i put in the sdcard/media/ringtones folder

I like gosms but emailed the developers about adding in a feature like hantcent that when i send a group sms it seperates it into individual messages and they still haven't added it. plus the download mms doesn't work at times and I have to go into stock messanger or handcent to download them.

handcent is pretty cool. HELLA customization options. ringtones, chat bubbles/colors/fonts etc. i might stick with this one for a while
