Root [BETA]Cyanogen!! Landed!!! :) Go get it![Updated 7/12/2011]

cm7 booted into recovery and then booted up into safe mode. I lost all of my desktop. Wonky and unstable so I sbf'd back. I really like cm7 as I've never seen it before this. I'm just going to need more stable version.

I am on the original build which is what I'm assuming is Build 0. So my steps are flash the new Superuser, then the new recovery, then Nightky 4? And does this require the premium Rom Mananger? If it's just nightlies that's no problem, I'll just get it from the CM mirror site.

Boot into your CWR and select install from zip, choose 2.3.6.3 efgh, install. Reboot.
(You can also download SU 2.3.6.3 with R.M..... open it, tap on Download/Extras/superuser 2.3.6.3 efgh.)

Then open your app drawer, open superuser, confirm 2.3.6.3 IS there and tap on binary under SU's settings to confirm SU is good to go.
Then open your market and make sure Rom Manager is up to date.
Open R.M.
Tap on Flash Recovery.
Make sure you select DroidX 2nd Init.

Once that is all done install Nightly 4 thru R.M. OR CWR(I wiped Dalvik cache).
Let Nightly #4 do its thing, I also reinstalled Gapps, which I downloaded with #4 using R.M. premium.

ALWAYS ALWAYS make a nandroid backup in CWR or R.M. before upgrading to a newer nightly.
Remember, these are all BETA status.

Downloading Nightlies thru Rom Manager requires Rom Manager Premium.
Its a premium service and its located under Premium Download section.
Go support a great app, its worth the buy 200%.

What was your upgrade path that you took coming from build#0?
The juicy specifics
I can get you right (slang for all good/ up and running)

That's weird. I totally didn't pay attention to this thread, and updated to Nightly #4. Did not lose root at all. Droid Overclock works fine without formatting cache/data, or having to work in root again.

What version of superuser did you have right before you installed #4?

I meant to say it started back up in "safe mode". Then I lost my desktop widgets and setup. I spent the day getting it right. I went from #2 to #4.
I'm back on ota rooted gb.

Thanks for everything! I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

EDIT: Doing it now instead...

It worked flawlessly!

#4 had a bug fix already embedded, I was having SU issues until I flashed #4 and it was "fixed" on that build

before i jump ship and install this i have a few questions. first do the videos work yet. i have a lot of videos on my sd card that my daughter watches and if they dont work, my little one will be very sad. second, can i just download nightly #4 or do i have to get the original file then update to #4.

I assume #4 has the updated Superuser 2.3.6.3 added to the nightly so no one has to worry about having to preflash the new SU. K.I.S. (Keep it simple) for everyone choosing to give the beta a go.
Can you tell me what the version number is for superuser from a fresh install of build #4?

Um. The one that came with the original CM7 build I guess. I don't recall installing anything different.

Open app drawer, tap on superuser, then tap on settings.
The version # is the second from the bottom.
Can you check for me and others please?
I am unable to start from scratch right now and start the whole install process all over to test and find out.
Just from hearing back from a couple of you, it almost definitely sounds like #4 comes with SU 2.3.6.3!

Videos that I recorded with the camera prior to the release of cm4dx will not play. Period.
I have some avi movies etc that play fine with Act 1 video player.

You should be able to start out on ANY Nightly build, just make sure you have your phone in the pre required state.
Read how to ready your DroidX here:

ok well i just installed everything and so far so good. i can live without a camera for a while. just so everyone knows, a new nightly just hit (#5)

Nightly Build #5 now available.
Camera still a no go.
Netflix still broken.

The major fixes will probably be announced by CVPCS on twitter.
Make sure you are following @CVPCS

If you flashed the CRT zip, Nightly #5 removes it.
Same zip file works on #5, simply REflash.

I will post my findings/issues to #5 in the morning.

Have a great night everyone.

Yup, that's the version number. It also has Su binary v2.3.2-efgh listed under it.

Okay. I tried. I really tried to hold off and wait for a stable release.

Really.

It just overcame me. I've been watching CM since the release of the Nexus One.

Definitely a little buggy. Shutting off my screen when in some of the settings menus causes a reboot. Built-in LED notifications appear to be flaky - at first I was getting a solid LED, fixed that via the solution in the CM forums and now I get no LED - not even with LightFlow. Harumph.

That said, I love the idea that we now have the option to run a real, community-supported, genuinely-customizable ROM. I haven't decided if it's stable enough for me yet but it's amazing to me that the community - and cvpcs in particular - never gave up on this device. I was comfortable with the ROMs that were getting produced even if they weren't ideal, but the recent announcements by HTC and Motorola, and the fact that CM7 is comfortably running on our so-called "locked" devices is evidence of the fact that a dedicated consumer base can move mountains.

i went back to apex, just because i could no longer go without having a camera/camcorder, that and in your gallery you cannot view videos, that and it seemed to have some battery drain, not much, but apex without a doubt for me has the best battery life out of all the roms, and so thats why im back with apex, where everything works :p (well everything i use anyway) so hopefully there will be an actual fix for the camera/camcorder, and a true fix for the GPS, which im reading there already is. but until then, i will be on apex ^_^

Thanks for these updates it really helps. I jumped from build 0 to 4 yesterday (I had used the Monster zip to get this) and have had no problems. Yes I have the normal issues of camera/camcorder which I have apps to take care of that if needed and Youtube/Netflix's. However outside of that I have not been having any issues.

On build 4 GPS and location is working just fine for me. I have not had any issues with the LED light, I went in and changed my settings for Gmail and text messages and they both have been working flawlessly. Also Battery Life seems greatly improved on build 4. Yesterday after I went to the built at 10:30 I was at 70% of my battery and I ended the day at 10:00 at night with 20% still left. So 50% is just a little under 12 hours I will take all the time.

I have not gone back and tried Droid Overclocking, but to be honest if I get battery life like this and have the performance that I have there is no reason for me to undervolt or overclock at this point.

+1. I finally gave in to my temptations and tried the monster last night also. Never made it to the nightly builds (wasn't sure how to apply them - if to wipe data, ect...)

Anyhoo, I couldn't even get my google account set up for some reason, kept getting an error and that it couldn't login or whatever. Also, I was plagued with that media server force close all over the place even when I was just sitting on the home screen it would go off.

The feel of the rom is fantastic though otherwise. Looking forward to a stable build. For now, back to Apex & BWC theme.

If you have the TBH app there is an all in one updater to go back to 596. One step instead of sbf, root, bootstrap, 2part update.

:)

I tried that last night and ended up stuck on the moto logo forever. Had to end up doing the SBF & 2 part then Nandroid to restore to Apex .596. :(
