BGR: GNEX users "Plagued" by reboots

I'm on verizon LTE, and I've averaged about 1 random reboot about every other day. However, I have LOADS of apps installed, am rooted (but all stock), don't use many widgets, and use heavy data on tethering --- normally in a fringe 4G area (-90 to -100 dBm).

I've had it happen:
- twice while streaming NPR app.
- once in a phone call
- about a handful of times while tethering (legit VZW addon)
- a few times using various other apps

I usually chock it up to too many apps running and a long history of high data use.
 
Mines definitely doing it. Seems to be related to audio usage for me, but I'm just guessing.

Curious how those who say it never happens - how do you know? It doesn't leave much trace except that sometimes (not always) there's a blip in the battery usage chart.
 
I'm not rooted, 4.0.2, with about 10 apps installed. Almost always happens while I'm navigating in the stock sms app, a few times in other places. About Once every two days on average.
 
I have had a few days where it will reboot once or twice. Just yesterday I turned on my screen and immediately clicked on the gmail app. my phone froze for a second and then did it's little vibrate and restart thing. After a full and longer than average reboot it rebooted again. It has been working fine since, but it's still an issue I think about. It was running a bit hot too it seems. I think the case might be warming it up a little more than it likes.
 
Ok so this happened to me about a day after reading this thread. I was using PowerAmp and it was set on a high buffer (probably using a lot of memory). I tried pulling down the notification, which then caused the reboot.

My first thought is to see if there is a way to test the RAM in the phone.


I blame BGR for giving my Gnex the idea that it was OK to reboot.
 
Mine rebooted twice last weekend while listening to Pandora while plugged into vehicle power adapter. GSM running stock 4.0.2. No other reboots in the last month. Seems to narrow the cause down to pandora because I always have the phone plugged into the vehicle power adapter when in the car and it never crashes except with pandora running.

For now, I'll right it off as a bug in pandora and hope that pandora releases a patch soon.

Actually I think it is streaming in general; but because the issue isn't limited to only when streaming (see some of the other instances above), I would argue that it is an indicator/stimulator but not the cause. The cause seems to be some sort of memory management or cache-maxing issue...

I have not had any (that I can detect) random reboots, but I reboot about every other day or at least once a week, so maybe I am resolving the issue unintentionally. I plan to go this whole week & next week without rebooting manually just to see if I get the random reboot.
 
Mine has rebooted once since I've had it (that I'm aware of). It was sitting in the stand on my desk, plugged into the charger. I wasn't even using it, it was sitting on the homescreen, and I glanced over and noticed it was rebooting.
 
Stock GNex. I guess phone re-booted itself sometime last night because when I woke up this morning and tried to wake the phone up I noticed the phone was completely off, holding down the on button did not turn it on either. I had to pull the battery. Very strange.
 
Mine never rebooted when using it since I bought it three weeks ago.
Last night I realized it rebooted for the first time while sitting idle by bed. I didn't see it but could tell it rebooted as recent app list was emptied on task button and memory was very fresh. Not a big deal. Still stock without rooting.
 
I got some reboots a while back. But uninstalling Lightwave and Volume + ended them. It's a shame since those are two incredibly useful apps, but something about them seems to cause reboots. I'm rooted with stock ROM, and this was all true both before and after rooting.
 
I got my first random reboot just now, while typing in an entry here in tapatalk in a different thread. So much for being one of the lucky few.

I don't think you are "unlucky" because of one random reboot. Every Android phone owned by me or someone in my family has randomly rebooted at once, but often several times. My Incredible did it at least once a month, on average. It's unfortunate all Android phones are susceptible to it, but unless it's a recurring issue, it doesn't mean you have a bad phone.

And I experienced my first Galaxy Nexus reboot the other morning right after the phone froze as it was auto-rotating.
 
I got mine 3 days ago and it rebooted twice so far.
Once when I was trying out google maps, and the next day while I was txt messaging. The screen just froze for like 5 seconds than rebooted.
nothing so far today, but it's kind of stupid.
