Lol! Well maybe I should explain a little further. The option is functional, unless you hate a network time source available... which with 3G on is just about alwaysIf I recall correctly, this option becomes available if you have no service on the device. However, if you modify the settings menu's XML files as I did in Warp OEM, you can make the time zone option available anyway, regardless of the system's auto-time-set stupidity, however I don't recall if you can make the time set option available or not.
The details of doing said modification is a little involved for the scope of this post, but if you decide to tackle this, feel free to reference the WOEM settings APK and reverse engineer it to see all the modifications I made to it and how they work. I would post some screenshots, but I'm right in the middle of editing some smali in VTS and I really don't wanna close the project right this second lol
If you need more info, though, I'll be happy to go into more detail at a later date
tyvm for explaining. i'm just being picky about having options available and wanted to see if it was something that i could fix on my own... don't want to bother you guys with silly stuff.

Pretty much. As far as I'm concerned people can do whatever they like with anything I have done so long as they give some cred if I came up with the original idea, this only being because I have seen so many projects start out as free, but end up with patents with no recognition or control over their own product- that is where I draw the line when it comes to recognition- I don't care as long as the idea constantly evolves, but if it ends up in somebody profiting, but not sharing? I want my piece of the pie.
Outside of that there are only two things that spur innovation when it comes to technology, and that is money/competition or unbarred sharing of ideas sans intellectual properties.
I'm not making money off of this, so libre, libre.
Don't get me wrong though, when it does indeed come to money I'm a bit of a wolf
but this just isn't one of those places. I view this sort of thing as a playground for creativity and learning and a way to keep my mind sharp. It's just puzzles for me... unfortunately it creates a bad habit of being disconnected with my outer world if I get too involved with this stuff.

Exactly right! There are no patents on roms, that is why some roms could be completed but for some reason people dont put the good of the community ahead of themselves.

I have to agree with that. If someoone was to directly profit of our work I would be a little hurt.

In keeping with this discussion, does anyone know if we can legally sell or trademark our ROMs? A friend of mine and I were disputing this the other day; my view is, since we only modified someone else's (Google's) product, we couldn't sell or patent it ourselves, correct?

I'm not going to pretend to have a full understanding of the GPL, but look a honeycomb. It's closed source. Mac OSX is also built off of FreeBSS 4.4, and is a closed source for profit software.

well I think this most likely delves into proprietary hardware and branding. They have intellectual rights to the hardware and other stuff that it's embedded into the open source code that is functionally patentable. Ie Apple sued the ever living Christ out of Samsung for similar trademarked and patented functions in the interface.

You are correct, but you could purchase a licensing Agreement from Google and then sell. Would cost a fortune tho!

Right. So to patent a Rom you would do this and then trademark and copy right any original new code or functionality (ie TouchWiz).

If I thought I had an idea and a working prototype with enough interest I certainly would. This or I would find investors or simply sell a patent to an interested party. I just don't see this as being to profitable without unique hardware. The only way I could see something like this as being profitable ifs of one simply made a whole new os or source code to sell to manufacturers. Otherwise you are better off simply developing apps.

Thank you. Glad you like it. The updater script formats the data partition by defualt, so current version will also wipe all of your app from the device on install. You can however backup your data partition in recovery, and reflash it after install. I've done that with TWRP several times.

Unreal. First my USB port and now the ear piece speaker is going out. My wife's warp is also dying. Well as long as it turns on DroidSmith is alive and well. My work on the new web browser looks to be almost done, so a new update should be coming soon.
