Foxfi does not work barnacle and tether will work as an ad hoc network.

Yes I understand that they are ad hoc only but again even with all the necessary settings done on the wifi tether apps and on my laptop (so to what I'm getting told to do by notifications) anyway, it'll connect but won't produce data transfer, I'd been reading other area problems n read something about under root folder somewhere changing a value from 0 to 1, any ideas? With a lil detail directions I can find my way around on the files n no what I'm doin but I am again fairly new at this area of technology.

Edit: I am running windows xp, would that be to old of n os for these newer technology levels?

and which rom is that cn i get a link?

Unfortunately the alien kernel comes with a lot of other things bundled in the zip, so when you flashed that it put things all over the ROM, I would recommend making a backup of your apps and data, reflashing noob VII and then restoring the user apps/data (don't restore system apps/data). There isn't an easy "undo" since the kernel came with a lot of other things (like init.d scripts, build.prop and other tweaks)(your lag may be because the alien kernel scripts might be interacting with the scripts included in this ROM, I like the alien kernel but you have to be careful using it with ROMS since it comes with so much)

I have had no issues running this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether

no changes needed to the settings that come on the ROM to make this work, just turn it on, then from your computer connect to the ad hoc network, you should have internet as long as your 3g is decent.

If that doesn't work, it's not the ROM/APP it's your computer. Ad hoc should work fine with xp, I have windows 7 but I have used it with an xp before.

progress on n00b III (next version):

  • working on updating to new b10 software from boost as base
  • merged changed files and went through framework jar files and apk files to compare changes
  • updated build prop to block future updates from prompting on n00b
  • incorporated baseband update files into ROM install zip
  • removed bloatware (lots was added)
  • changed recovery back to cwm (twrp will still be an option, I just find it easier to use, it's really person preference and with my easy root zip it's super easy to change between them)

This update will not change core apps like systemui, framework-res, phone, contacts, settings. I do not see any improvements to those in the udpate and there's no reason to make the themers go through the trouble of revamping them since the update was mostly on the framework side.

No ETA at this time, but I am close to at least getting the b10 update worked out.

Hi,
I have n00b VII running everything ok right now, but I am a flash adict:D.
There is something good (improvement) flashing this (B10 firmware) ? :
*************
#4 This is an edit of my original flashable #1 by Mr. Bobo which flashes only the firmware (e.g. radio and baseband) updates.

Some improvement in speed or anything ?
any spyware inside "B10FirmwareOnlyUpdate ?

it may be placebo but I see great improvement in my 3g and cell connection since the firmware update above on n00b VII... or maybe boost has done something in my area...

spyware wise, I think the full update had some apps in it that probably assist in sending data usage somehow and someone mentioned that one of the apps is used to collect user activities in a general way but you wouldn't get those from just the firmware as far as I know and I am removing the apps in my next ROM update.

MrBobo

I am assuming that the flashable firmware only update is compatible with the current nOOb VII release, but before I begin flashing I just wanted to check in with you and make sure.

I just recieved a message saying an update had been downloaded. When I select to install the update it reboots into recovery. What do I do from here. Should I install some sort of zip for the update or should I just leave it alone.

Since you are already on n00b I would just wait...Mr Bobo is working on a new version that incorporates the new update. If the notification becomes too annoying use root explorer to navigate to /system/etc/security/ and rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak and run the update after it fails and goes to twrp reboot and it should be gone

Ok thanks. That's the first time I got one of those notifications since I've been running a custom rom. I assume it's the b10 firmware update?

Yes...if you really want the b10 update mercury has a thread with it altered to be able to install on custom roms. You can safely flash version 3 or 4 on n00b

I flashed "B10FirmwareOnlyUpdate" (version 4) on n00b VII yesterday, then wiped cache & dalvik. Everything still working perfect, checked calls, gps, text, wifi, bluetooth, etc.
Thanks

see post one for n00b VIII update, it will not wipe data and moves the ROM to a b10 base (ported all mods to new framework jar files). I did move over some of the system apps that were updated, but did not update the core files that get themed so all n00v VII themes should work fine after this update without any issues (I didn't see anything worth bringing over on the app side, lots of new bloatware was about it)
