Just did some looking around and may have found at least part of the issue with /data getting wiped on stock roms. The stock init.rc file runs ext4check.sh against several partitions, including /data.

Well, I just gave it a shot and it worked great with those 2 lines commented out. Data partition survived the reboot and all my apps were still there after the restore. Looking forward to seeing whether others find the same.

if you restore an old backup you will have to flash that fix before you reboot

and it really was not an issue with CWM

it was a security or integrity check in the stock ROM

yes


the file resides in the /system/bin folder

so if you flash it, and then backup, it will be part of that back up, and will be part of the restore, when you restore

Just flashed the zip, backed up, factory, wiped the data partition. And did a restore and it worked perfectly. Great find!

another way to fix this would be to remove those lines in the init.rc

any kernels I release in the future will not have those lines
