Its not the HDD. I have 2 of them. Both with a desperate is. Both freeze. Even my CDROM drives were getting hot. I think the PSU is screwed. And I hope that's all it is
 
ugh, did some more testing. starting to really think the board or cpu. half the time now my cpu fan doesnt start spinning, when that happens i get no video. also froze in the bios, froze running memtest86+ after 1:11 about the same ammount of time it freezes always after boot.

remeoved half the ram. tried them all...still freezing. unplugged hdds,cdroms, freezing.m unless the psu really is that weak now... it looks grim here

If all that is failing, it might be you motherboard.
 
could be the heat paste, could be a faulty fan.. could be the power supply...how old is your power supply? over a year under a year? under a year I would take the cooling block off and clean the cpu with rubbing alcohol and check what shade of blue it is... if it's not blue, Good! reapply the heat conductive paste in a even layer and make sure your cooling block is not clogged with dust and well connected... then try again...
 
NOPE. found the problem.... lol

psu was going bad. the 4 pin 12V atx connector is literally brown and welded to my board, hence the board is fried.

so question... can an AM3+ motherboard take an AM3 CPU ?

... So gotta replace PSU + MB

I hope that's not 109 C... because you know that's pretty freaking hot right? Like I know the thermal shutdown on all of my computers will kick in before that.

Way back in the day some of the AMD processors used to get that hot... but we are talking like K6 era processors.

As are manufacturing process has gotten smaller, so too has the amount of energy lost to heat.

So if that is Celsius then... yeah... fried is a good word to use.
 
If your psu was failing in such a way that it was causing that much heat you may have been overvolting your CPU, mem, etc... so you could have done some damage there too just FYI.

well, the mem is all good. tested in my mothers computer... had to do a repair on hers.

but no. thats 109 f.. 28c... so cpu never got hot, and it seems to work, i can still boot into linux .but freezes... i ran memtest and all passed.

so the system shutting off prevented damage.

.. so this is what iam looking at for a MB

ill be back up n running on a temp desktop.

Your cpu is am3 or am3+?

What brand was your motherboard?
 
Phenom II X6 1100T BE AM3, MB was BIOSTAR A870U3, ive never had an issue with biostar boards in the 10yrs ive used them.this was caused by a faulty psu..

here is what i was looking at.

What brand was your psu? and why where you asking if the am3+ socket was backwards compatible for am3 processors both your cpu and your targeted mb are am3+... sorry it just confused me and I'm sipping my first coffee...
 
Are you absolutely sure the mobo is fried? Have you tried a different PSU? If the psu is that whack there is no way to tell the stability of the other components without either swapping them out or swapping the PSU out.

the mb is effed... cant get the plug to the atx 12v out of the socket.. its melted in there. also on the back of the board. its all burned out right there. plus i smelt it lol
