Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Thanks for linking those in the OP. I am curious about some of the settings but I'll research them before I do anything and a good place to star is in their threads. On another note, if I want to uninstall these modules, how do I do that since they were installed in Xposed framework?

Have another question, is it possible to restore a bu that was backed up with twrp? I'm currently on phils touch recovery, would this recovery work for a backup with twrp. I know you can't between cwm and twrp but phils touch has so many features.

Just go into the Xposed Installer Modules section and uncheck them. Even if you don't, you can uninstall them just like any other app.

I use Philz also. I thought about going back to TWRP, but I keep reading about people having problems with the new Roms, so I think I will stay.

Yes, you can restore TWRP backups with Philz. I have done it. I would have to go back and find the steps but it is in all those menus somewhere. Give it a try.

One thing that impressed me was that it will find your TWRP directory on your Internal or External SD. It will give you the options on which partitions to restore. I am not sure if it matters whether your backups were compressed. I think that most of mine were.

As Wy said, to uninstall a module is as easy as going into Xposed Framework, unchecking it and then uninstalling it. I use Titanium Backup to remove apps and modules. I also ALWAYS make sure to wipe the app cache before uninstalling it. No sense in keeping that extra cache data if the app/module is removed. Just a little something to keep in mind.

As for Philz and TWRP, I haven't personally used Philz to restore a TWRP backup although as Wy mentioned, it is possible. I have ran Philz recovery and it's nice. It's just that since I've found out that the newest version of TWRP works with our Boost phone, I've chosen to stick with it. Specifically Naddict's flashable recovery zip. TWRP works better with the ROM I run (Wicked Sensations) and is actually included in the ROM installation instructions. Why you might ask? Because TWRP allows for mods in the ROM's MyHub app to be download and flashed directly from the MyHub app. Other recoveries can be used with the ROM but have trouble flashing the mods from MyHub. You have to download them, then boot into recovery to flash them.

I want to mention Philz again and how impressed I am with what all can be done with it. Just because I'm running TWRP right now doesn't mean that I won't switch back to using Philz. It really surprised me at how smooth the recovery runs and all the features it offers. If I end up changing ROMs, there's a very good chance I'll switch back to using Philz recovery. :D:thumbup:

Thanks for the suggestions, do you know where the steps are to restore a twrp bu or is it the same as restoring any backup? I have a couple twrp aocp backups that had data issues when I was on them, wanted to restore with philz to see if it may have been the recovery (twrp).

It is under Custom Backup and Restore. Then TWRP Backup and Restore. Then it will present a screen to allow you to select which partitions, etc. Then you select which backup. It is a little confusing in the way that the screens are presented but it does work and it should find your TWRP directory on an external SD card automatically. Of Course this is called sdcard1.

I believe that it formats the partitions before the restore but I usually do a New Rom Wipe first, just to be sure.

I would look down the list of partitions and make sure that you are restoring all that you want. I usually do not restore Recovery and a few of the other ones that look a little scary. Lol. But, System, Data, Cache and Boot work fine.

Give it a try, just backup your old Rom first, of course. Lol.

I noticed today on XDA that there is a new Philz. It might not have been built for d2spr yet, but it is in the list. Not sure if we can flash the straight Sprint version original or if it has to be changed in some way other than maybe the asserts.

Here is the original Philz Thread.

[28.12.2013]CWM 6.0.4.5 Advanced Edition / PhilZ Touch 6.07.8 + exFAT + NTFS + MTK - xda-developers

Straight Sprint version should be fine. From your earlier post about the partition restoring via Philz, when you make backups in TWRP, it does not backup the recovery partition unless you explicitly ask it to; Team Win doesn't want you to be updated to a newer TWRP and then go back to an old backup which would restore the old TWRP at the same time. Therefore, most likely there is not even a recovery partition to restore when using Philz to restore a TWRP backup. Philz also tends to backup more items in general I think-for those of you who have used both, you will notice that Philz takes a bit longer to do a backup, and the file sizes, even when compressed, are much larger. Also, from an even earlier reply about TWRP, version 2.6.3.0 will never flash KitKat 4.4.x, it is not compatible. This is why so many people either use both Philz and TWRP or have made the switch to Philz from TWRP, like myself. TWRP 2.6.3.1 is KitKat compatible, but when I flashed it, nothing would mount while in recovery, it literally thought I had nothing on internal or external. That, and the touch response on the screen was almost nonexistent. I read about a lot of other people having this problem, but also plenty of people who had no problems. Oh well. Just a heads up.

Download folder for d2spr still shows version 6.0.0.8 as the latest Philz available for our phone by the way, so probably something coming soon. Looks like Philz main thread lists 6.0.7.8, updated yesterday.

The only problem I have had with Philz is that I cannot seem to get it toggled to do a compressed backup. I liked that option in TWRP. And of course, I wish that Philz would let you name the backup beforehand. I have noticed that since I started flashing the newer Roms that the time is correct, which was never the case with the TWRP I was using. Because of this the file names are useful, especially since they contain part of the ROM name and version.

You have to go in and change the default storage mode to ".tar and .gz" and then it will let you choose compression methods. There is also a time zone setting in Philz under the GUI preferences if your time zone ever gets offset, as well as a daylight savings time toggle if you live in an area that uses it.

Ahhhh. The old "tar and gz" trick, eh? Lol. Yep, I had done the time zone thing. Thanks. Going to go do that compressed backup now!

Yeah it cuts down file size considerably. It still wants the fully needed space first so don't worry about the initial size number it shows you.

Good info Bro. Thanks.

You were talking about the newer TWRP not seeing any of the files like they weren't even there. That sounds like the same issue the original Boost guys were having with the S3 when I joined this section. They had just made a patch for TWRP right before I bought mine. By the time I got in here they already had a fully patched up version that was Odin flashable. That's the one I ended up using and adding when I rewrote the tutorial for a few people.

They may end up having to do the same thing they did with the older version of TWRP and create a patch for it. Either that or Team Win will just fix it and release a newer version. Hard to say. It took them awhile to get this one I'm running fixed up to where it would read both the data on the internal and external SD. It was definitely a nice surprise when I found the recovery flashable TWRP, flashed it and saw that it was reading all my data. LOL. :D If it weren't for that and the fact that TWRP works with the MyHub app on WS, I would probably still be running Philz.

To everyone else..... has anyone tried any of the newer ROMs out yet and found them to work with our phone? I've been testing this beta 4.3 Wicked Sensations and haven't tried any of them yet.

From what I've read, it looks like the majority of the S3 members have been sticking with MOAR, CM11, and Wicked Sensations.

Hey bro, can confirm that newest 4.4.x versions of AoCP, Liquid, CyanFox and JellyBAM all flash and run just fine as long as the proper assert line modifications have been made. However, Liquid is graphically glitchy and AoCP still uses those awful screen touch sounds, plus the default red and gold theme is definitely not to my liking. Certainly not going away from CM11 or Wicked personally until Carbon finally gets their act in gear and starts releasing their long-promised 4.4.x builds.

If you use Philz Recovery, you can also install the Aroma File Manager.

Download the zip and rename it to aroma.zip which really means that you remove the version level from the file name.

Go to your favorite file manager, I use Root Explorer and go to the clockworkmod directory probably located on your external SD card.

Make a new directory named aromafm. Move the downloaded zip to that directory.

Reboot to Philz Recovery. There is an option under Philz Settings for the Aroma File Manager. Run it and it will install your zip.

If you don't want to create the directory and rename the file, you can just flash it like any other zip and it will work just fine.

You can customize it and it will save your settings, even though the zip gets installed each time you take the Menu option to run this.

It also has a very handy terminal emulator.

File Manager and Terminal Emulator were 2 things that I miss from TWRP so this adds that functionality.

The File Manager is pretty too with several themes and options.

When you exit the file manager it will return to Philz. I have not tried but I assume this would also work with straight CWM. TWRP doesn't need it.

Nice addition to Philz.

Now just need to figure out the Script stuff in Philz...

Check out an app from XDA that is on the Play Store, Free and Paid.

Andromizer

I installed it to do an EFS backup, I was scared at first but it had the approval of XDA and has been featured on their page, so must be good. But at always, any root stuff is done at your own risk. Looks like it had been tested quite a bit and been through many releases without too many serious complaints.

It says that it backed up my EFS and my phone still works. Only need that restore for an emergency. Lol.

But this app does a lot of stuff. It is a Swiss Army Knife like Titanium Backup. I have not tried the paid version but it does even more.

It also ties in with TWRP and Philz.

Check it out...

The Collective has a 4.4 rom for sprint, does anyone know if this will flash on our boost s3 phones?? Or if I have to change anything??

I flashed it on my VM today. Wouldn't want it as a daily driver though without more modifying than I care to do right now.

Anything wrong with it, bugs?? From the sounds of it on the xda thread, its working great. Whats your feedback from flashing it??

Also, does anything have to be changed like the script or apn??
