Root Boot loop/soft brick help

You should be fine, I would definitely check your sd card for errors though, that may have been part of your problems considering that files that should be on it aren't any longer, also your contacts should be backed up to your Google account so once you get everything reloaded and sign in they should download automatically, glad you're back up and running. :D

I'm happy to see that you're back up & running. Great job on sticking with it and being patient!

If you flash HBOOT 1.50.5050, you can install almost any ROM out there. I think the worst of it is definitely behind you at this point.

So at this point, since I lost it all and my sd card is showing things like goo manager, titanium backup (taking 3 gb of space) of my sd card. But none of these programs are on my htc evo. Can I or should I format/erase my sd card and get back some of that space??

Follow up question also: If harmonia requires going back to hboot 1.57. It got downgraded somehow when did wiretrick with control bear(still waiting on the beer, it kept telling me about). Can you guys recommend other rom's, besides harmonia then.

I'd definitely just install Titanium Backup from the Play Store, then restore your missing user apps & system settings. From there, if you want to format it's up to you.

If you're interested in changing your HBOOT to try out other ROMs, here's a link to the JuopunutBear HBOOT 1.50.5050. You'd just put that file on the root of your SD Card and reboot to bootloader, then volume-up to accept the update. Delete it after the update, and you're good to go.

Totally optional, but if you want to get away from stock, that's probably your best bet.

Just confirming - you are S-OFF, right? If not, DO NOT flash the file above.

I like MidnightROM Jellybean and Harmonia, personally. Harmonia boots fine on the JuopunutBear 1.50.5050 HBOOT.

I'm assuming that's what hboot he has if he is flashing jellybean roms? Can you boot into the bootloader and give us your hboot info? It's hard for me to request roms for evo v since I have the sprint version. Alien rom is very popular. So is negalite blue. As well as pacman. If you want a stock rom you will probably want to upgrade hboot.

He mentioned 1.57.5757 in the OP, so I just wasn't sure what HBOOT he was on either.

Interesting. There's no way he can flash jb roms on 1.57. So I'm confused. Even if he meant gb that would still require the same hboot as jb roms.... Guess we'll have to wait and see what he says :)

Sorry guys it wouldn't let me back into bootloader to get the hboot info. Before this nightmare, I was on the hboot HBOOT 1.50.5050 after doing the wiretrick. It still shows s-off at the top, but now back again to hboot 1.57. It took using a stock rom to get back to working phone. But it still says Juopunut Bear at the top.

The wire trick when I used it installed the modified jbear 1.57.57 hboot, that's probably what he's on unless he manually flashed a different version.

It now shows the 1.57.57, after flashing stock rom. Just to get you all on the same page with me. I wanted to flash cyogenmod 10.1 at the start of this and a great dude at android central, helped me that would do me s-off and change my hboot. I wanted to have Jellybean mod. That's how this all got started.

Ok, if you flash the file I linked above, you will be able to install CM 10.1.

Here's the link again. Just put this file on the root of your SD Card and reboot to your bootloader. If the update doesn't start right away, choose "bootloader" from the bootloader menu, and then select the update with the volume-up button.

No. The rom you will flash through recovery like normal. It can be anywhere on the sd card.

The PG86IMG file is a special one that has to be on the root of the sd card and gets flashed through the bootloader.

This only being day 3 of my learning How to root my evo v. I want to understand the lingo and the meaning. When you say "It has to be on the root of the sd card". So when I change it from charge only to disk and open the sd card. Is there a certain folder it goes in, or just open the sd card and paste the file?? That's the root of the sd card.

One question, prior to posting this thread I read the "Fix everything" thread. Poster JoeBlow says once the pg86 file is flashed. When the htc logo white screen comes up on the reboot "Pull the battery" in his post. Do I need to do this??

If you are following his thread, follow the instructions he posted. Those instructions do not apply elsewhere unless they are explicitly defined to apply.
