Root Boot loop/soft brick help

So I flashed pg86img from bootloader like stated. It keeps rebooting to htc logo screen over and over. It doesn't load up the os, so I can remove file after wards.

You need to go back into the recovery to delete the file.

Execute the following command:
[HIGH]adb wait-for-device && adb reboot recovery[/HIGH]From recovery, mount the SD Card to delete the file. Wipe everything then install CM 10.1.

For future reference you should always go into recovery after flashing something from the bootloader.

Here's where I believe "wiped" my os, when started this thread. I'm on twrp 1.1 installed....it shows "wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe everything (factory reset)

Do all three or just the everything option??

Mount your SD Card through recovery

Delete the PG86IMG.zip through your computer

Download CM 10.1

Put CM 10.1 on your SD Card

Safely remove your SD Card, then disconnect it in TWRP

Wipe everything

Install CM 10.1 through recovery

When installing cm 10.1, says I should be using very latest 4ext recovery. How do I get rid of twrp. Delete the folder off sd card?? I want to install 4ext as my recovery program.

The current version of 4EXT recovery that you can flash as a PG86IMG.zip file from the bootloader was linked by brian706 a page back. Use that version since you need to boot before installing an apk.

Sorry for being a newb, but don't see link you mention under Brian706. Just the same one that gives me the same file with .apk extension.

I want to clarify this: Safely remove your SD Card, then disconnect it in TWRP

I choose usb storage toggle in twrp 1.1, put the cyan 10.1 in the root of sd card. and it power button to toggle it back. Is that what you mean by "disconnect"??

First of all you guys are awesome and a great help. To Brian706, Remanifest,
Ramjet73 and Adamhos. I THANK YOU!!!

Me asking questions over and over. Sure you felt was way over my head!! But..........

DRUM ROLL!!!!!!!!! It booted up with cyanogen logo and shows 4.2.2.

so the ics version had gmail app, and installed all my contacts. I didn't have to hassle with 20+ entry's.. But don't see gmail app on cyan 10.1. Can I flash these or just go to playstore and get??

Usually with aosp roms they also post a gapps package to download as well. Go here:
http://goo.im/gapps
Get the 20130301 package and flash it through recovery. Should have all the Google stuff you need!

I don't see the "developer option" to turn on the usb debugging. ADB can't find my device, so can reboot into recovery.

also can I remove the cyan 10.1 from sd card, now that it's installed...the zip file.

Yes. But if you ever need to reflash the rom, you will need to download again or get it off your pc. Whatever you decide to do with it.

Menu button system settings. Way down towards the bottom choose developer options. Inside of that check "android debugging"

Sometimes it called usb debugging/adb debugging/android debugging

Also you should still be able to access recovery by doing a battery pull then hold volume down + power to get into the bootloader. Then select recovery from there.

Edit: also, this rom should have built in reboot options. If you hold the power button and select reboot, a sub menu should pop up with options to reboot normally, bootloader or recovery. So that is one way to access recovery if you are booted into your rom

On CM 10.1 you have to tap the build number in the software information 7 times for the developer options to appear. I believe it's mentioned in the OP for those ROM's.

Good call. I have read about that but any rom i have used already has it enabled.

Device not found error: You have to power off phone and the adb will find the device and load boot loader/recovery.

So not being born with any patience and to my discovery now that can boot into an os and trying to figure out the volume down/pwr. Turns out my volume down button is broke.

If purchase another evo v, I'm guessing would have to do this whole process over again....correct???

Correct. You'd be starting all over again. At least for rooting the phone. Once rooted you could restore a backup if you have one and restore apps with tb
