Root Brand New Froyo 2.3.13

does that wipe your apps? or just data? I used to do app+plus system data but as noted it caused problems. Now I just do missing apps and data. Damn Tibkup is Too good it actually resotres too much stuff. Maybe I'll try MyBackup for the restore. next time.

Yup, wipes the apps!

You can remove both of the backupassistant.apks and buacontactadapter.apk.
Removing blurcalendar.apk and blurcalendarprovider.apk will leave you with the newer calendar.
Removing cardock.apk will remove the older car dock.
Removing bluremail.apk will remove the older email app.
Removing mediagallery.apk will remove the older gallery.
Removing music.apk will remove the older music app.

Do all of this will Root Explorer and either delete the .apk file or rename the .apk extension to .bak. You will be left with the newer google version of the apps.

backupassistant.apks and buacontactadapter.apk. could not find these
Removing blurcalendar.apk and blurcalendarprovider.apk will leave you with the newer calendar. could not rename or delete these because they are read only
Removing cardock.apk will remove the older car dock.could not rename or delete because it isread only
Removing bluremail.apk will remove the older email app.could find this only BlurEmail.apk and BlurEmailEngine.apk
Removing mediagallery.apk will remove the older gallery.could not rename or delete this because it is read only
Removing music.apk will remove the older music app. could not rename or delete this becauseit is read only

what am I doing wrong?

You need to hit the top right button to change permission from R/O to R/W then long press on the file. There should be at least 1 backupassistant.apk file.

I just did all this. However, the "Messaging" app is basically crippled once you remove the old email app. There appears to be a new "Messages" app, however. I haven't figured out how to access it or create an icon for it.

It should be in your app drawer as Text Messaging.

Ok.. Got it. Thanks! I was looking for another catch-all app like the "old" Messaging App.

I found Messaging.apk in my system/app folder. I assume that is this old app. Can I safely delete it?

I only have a BackupAssistanceClient.apk?
So both versions show up in titanium backup, and I also still seem to have duplicate Car Home 2.2's listed in titantium backup as wekk as Email 2.2 still showing up twice?

It is actually backupassistantclient.apk. I believe the 2 car home's showing up are just part of the one .apk file. Freeze 1 and try opening the dock and watch what happens, then defrost the same one and freeze the other, and try opening the dock again. You'll see that the car dock doesn't work either way but it fails at different points with each one. Are you sure your not seeing email engine 2.2 and email policy 2.2?

In case you didn't see it I did a wipe data and a backup with MyBackUp and then restored apps with MyBackUp + data and I now have NO double apps

Wouldn't that just backup my double apps?

You would think so wouldn't you. I did the backup just before doing the wipe. I was doing it to fix the sync icon issue I had. Anyways it might be worth a try. I think it's possible Mybackup doesn't backup system apps I don't know. All I know is the three apps I had that were double are now only one.

I think I'm opening a whole new can of worms here. WHen I started the free version of MyBackup, it asks me if I also want to backup system settings. I told it not to. Is that correct?

Would I have to go around re-syncing my blooth and re-establishing all my wireless connections again as well?

edit: I used rom manager to restart and chose to wipe data. I had to re-enter all my google information again, it looks like all the applications are still on my phone.

Also I decided to re-install the old gallary, it is much better than the new one. it's not as flashy but it actually works correctly when cropping a picture for a wallpaper. The new one gives you a compressesed Blurry unacceptable picture, but using the old one the image will be crisp and sharp.

This all sounds like a phenomenal pain in the ass with double apps and all. Are you really sure it's worth it for the new FroYo?
