Root Brand New Froyo 2.3.13

This all sounds like a phenomenal pain in the ass with double apps and all. Are you really sure it's worth it for the new FroYo?

I dunno, I seem to have gotten rid of all the double apps thanks to help here, although my wipe didn't remove my applications, so I'm not sure what the point in using mybackup was??

I think I'm opening a whole new can of worms here. WHen I started the free version of MyBackup, it asks me if I also want to backup system settings. I told it not to. Is that correct?

Would I have to go around re-syncing my blooth and re-establishing all my wireless connections again as well?

edit: I used rom manager to restart and chose to wipe data. I had to re-enter all my google information again, it looks like all the applications are still on my phone.

Also I decided to re-install the old gallary, it is much better than the new one. it's not as flashy but it actually works correctly when cropping a picture for a wallpaper. The new one gives you a compressesed Blurry unacceptable picture, but using the old one the image will be crisp and sharp.

I backed up everything. and restored everything, DO you have the paid version? Mine never asked if I wanted to backup system. I select backup --> applications check all and then say apps +data. If you do it this way you restore your system settings which are your accounts and home screens and you don't have to do all that. The only thing you'll have to do is place any widgets you had.

As for the gallery
The blurry picture clears up if you wait a few seconds.

You must not have wiped data /factory reset. It diffidently wipes your apps if you do

So if you advance restore system only using the nandroid, should you be able to avoid all of this?

No this is what I used.

As for the new gallary, waiting does not fix the problem, but I do see the lag when viewing them. The problem I am referring to happens when you select wallpaper -> then go to the new gallary -> select your picture and crop it to fit. I uploaded several pictures from my SLR and when using this method they are all terribly blurry. I renamed the old gallary back to normall and used this same mothod (only selecting the old gallary) and the pictures look stunningly sharp every time after cropping them for background image.

I do not have the paid version, but it asked me when installing, since I have root, if I would like it to also backup the system settings. I decided not to since I was only interested in applications.

This is what I am thinking as well, but I did select wipe data / factory reset, and it did look like it was working but it happened very fast. I lost all of my widgets, and icons on the home screens. I also lost all of my bookmarks. Apps were still there but I just deleted the non working duplicated using titanium backup, or renamed the older version as was suggested prior.

The biggest problem I have now is that when I power off my phone and then power it back on, I always get the clockworkMod Recovery screen.???

As for the double apps. Are you guys implying to the new gallery and calendar etc?? Because I like the new ones. Did anyone else get the" dev tools" and "spare parts" apps as well??

I listed all of the duplicates I had on the previous page. The new gallery is ok untill you want to use a picture as a wallpaper. I hope someone else can confirm the wallpaper comes out blurry. The new clock shows weather is not available and if I click the message I get a force close.

wallpaper doesnt come out blurry for me at all. its perfectly fine. what clock are you implying to?? is it a widget?? because i tried every widget i have available and nothing force closes. my froyo is running pretty well. havent had one single force close.

Hmmmm not sure what nandroid your referring to?

I'm wondering if maybe a theme causes it also. If you look at some of them they tell you to uninstall some apps because they have their own themed versions. Now I can't remember ever uninstalling any apps before applying themes so that's seems like a possible source for the problem also. (at least for me) I don't know.

I'd would say though that something other than the update caused the problem either a theme or Tibkup.

It would be helpful if someone did the update then checked for dup apps before restoring apps a backup. At least then we'd know if it was from the nandroid or the update itself or the app restore.

Come to think of it my update went real easy and I didn't have to restore apps.....hmmmmmm OK it's from the update or theme-ing :D

Frankly I don't care any longer ,mine is fixed;)

No I had 2 Music 2 Car dock and 2 of something else (its early). when I looked at them in Tibkup generally one was a system app and the other wasn't but otherwise they were the same app.

Does anyone lose the music control buttons on the lock screen? or there is a setting to enable them. I have those buttons on 2.1 system, but not on this version.

Let me post some screenshots. The pictures I am cropping came from an SLR not the native camera so I guess I need to explore further.

Images are from Olympus RAW converted to JPG using lightroom. (not that it should matter) The resolution is 10MP.

Heres some picutres taken from the phone itself then cropped. It's not as obvious but I can still see a difference.

You can see some difference especially around the sharp edges of the Pennies.

Clock is not a widget it's in the app drawer. I have both "Alarm and Timer", as well as another application called "Clock". The clock is the one that will force close when I click the area that says "weather is unavailable". It wasn't there before the update so I'm assuming I got it from either the 2.3.9 or 2.3.13 Nandroid.

I'm also getting force closes from some parts of the development tools (I went poking around in there but didn't change anything).

I don't think the duplicates were from a theme or from TI Backup. I did not do a restore from Ti-Backup, I noticed the duplicates after upgrading from 2.3.6 to 2.3.13 using the Advanced System Restore Nandroid method.

what version are you on? and are you running tranquility I thought the controls were removed with the early version of tranquility. Could be wrong I just seem to rememebr something like that.

Will there goes that theory and man you take blurring pics. LOL The old gallery cleans them up nicely though :D Seriously though what happens if you use the phone camera? Are they also blurry ?

I installed using the nandroid file on the bottom of the first post, I think it is just the plain 2.3.13 version.

Just posted some phone images as you replied, It's not as noticeable but I can see a difference still.

well there's only one thing to do ...Throw out that crappy SLR camera. LOL

I just tried with a pic from my camera and it is a little blurry also but then again I take crap pictures :o so it could just be me. I'll load up the other gallery and find a good pic and check it out. However there isn't anything wrong with loading the other gallery apps ( used to have like three of them on my phone) and some like the 3d gallery or the droid one gallery better and there is no harm in installing them.

Indeed, I was just bringing it up as something I noticed. I'm keeping both apps. But it's something others will may to consider when creating roms based of this version...

Now I need to decide what to do next. FlyX, Tranquility, REVOlution? Need to do some resaerch on what each of these provide. :)
