Root Bugless Beast 0.7.6 released

it says added busybox, but I am having issues with metamorph claiming it is missing.

I tried to get around the easy way by installing it with droidroothelper, but apparently that app doesnt work with the new BB

any help?

Had same problem and after searching for about 2 hours I found this and gave it a try. This works using a terminal app on the phone or using your computer.

In adb shell, type the following command (no mounting needed I believe). I don't know why/how the permissions get changed or what the default configuration for busybox. I haven't had an issue since.

chmod 755 /system/xbin/busybox

This was an issue with Sholes 2.0.5 for me and then resurfaced after I put a "clean" copy of BB 7.6 on. Worked fine both times

Then open metamorph and "run tests". You should be good to go at that point.
 
Took JIT off - wasn't stable for me.

I'm likely going back to 8.7 BB w/the Adamz kernel - this ROM (7.6 with original or Adamz kernel at 1ghz OC) hasn't been as stable/consistent for me as that combination was.
 
I got quite a few random restarts when I first tried 1.2, and I found 1.1 to be much more stable (however, maybe in my mind, seemed slightly less responsive). But I'm giving it another go, so we'll see. Best benchmark I got w/ 1.1 was 183ms and w/ 1.2 was 166ms.
 
Hey guys! New to the forum, and recently started changing ROMs back and forth. Lately, I have been running Bugless Beast 7.6. I then bought setcpu, and Temp monitor from the market. My Droid is now racing like a hooker through Utah! This phone is awesome! However, I keep reading about people flashing new kernels along with "the Beast" (i.e. Adamz), and was wondering how. I would greatly appreciate any knowledge on the subject, or just a point in the right direction!

No Problem. I have to spend all this time scouring the internet trying to find this kind of information so I started making folders on my computer for various roms, apps, etc and I create text files where I copy some of this info from forums, etc. Just a tip for you and everyone else as I have had to rely on that kind of information at different times...and I don't feel like searching for the same stuff over and over again! ;)

First of all, your comment about racing through UTAH had me laughing...:D

A kernel is the layer of programming that works between the application layer and the hardware itself. You can substitute different kernels that affect the hardware itself (like overclocking) but leaves the OS and Applications the same.

You can download various kernels made by AdamZ, Taz, etc. Not all hardware is identical (see the threads where some Droids can run fine on Taz's older 1.3GHz kernel...mine can't).

The newer kernels are more complete than older ones. For example, there are "Evilboot" kernels that work fine but if you will install one, it will make your WiFi stop working...then you have to apply a patch to fix the WiFi. The new kernels don't require that so there is very little need to switch back unless your phone ran better on an older kernel.

I don't have AdamZ kernels but I have several others...shoot me a PM with you email and I'll send what I have to you...I am not responsible for what happens to your phone, but I have not heard of a problem with any of these files harming anyone's Droid. Just standard CYA...:D

Edit: Afterthought. When you have a kernel in a Nandroid backup form, place it inside your Nandroid folder on your SD card. You will need to make sure all of the kernel files are inside a regular folder (not a .zip or .rar folder...just look at your other backups in the nandroid folder and you'll see what I mean...you can name the folder anything you wish so you can find it easily).

Then you just boot into recovery...BACKUP YOUR CURRENT CONFIGURATION BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE...then go to 'Advanced Restore', then select 'Choose Backup' then select the folder for the kernel you want to install. NOW MAKE SURE YOU ONLY HAVE 'BOOT' SELECTED (you will have an * by 'Boot' and nothing else). Then select 'Perform Restore'...it will do it's thing...take 10 seconds or so...then you press your power button until you get back to 'Reboot Phone' and then reboot...you're done. If you OS doesn't load...you hardware doesn't like that kernel...go back to recovery (may have to pull your battery to power off).

I just saw on BGR a nexus one with flash and sense ui, the sense was from the htc desire, I wonder if it wouldn't be able to port it to us for the Droid, since we already have a "2.1 leak" it wouldn't be too hard, right?
 
Great tutorial!...coming across one issue though. I downloaded Adamz "Glassboot" kernel 2.6.32 (which has two documents in unzip form 3.07MB), and added the unzipped folder "Glassboot" (containing the two docs) to my nandroid folder of root. However, when trying to restore (boot only), I get an ERROR 25 message. Am I missing something, or just bad download? Or maybe just newbie mistake!:D

I don't need to update anything, or mess with debugging do I?

Newbie mistake probably :) (Not really...I do it all the time and realize what I've done...or better yet, forgotten to do)

Try making sure that you have a file folder (not zip file) inside your nandroid directory. You cannot restore from a zip file in the Nandroid directory...Nandroid will still show it but you will get an error 25.

Checked, and everything is unzipped. Do I need to change/update my SPrecovery (say to 0.99.3)? or something on BB I need to alter? Sorry for the 20 questions!

Okay...I was scratching my head trying to figure this out so I d'loaded it and realized that this is not in Nandroid format. This is an .img file. You have to flash this file using adb. Are you familiar with adb?

Yeah, I was looking for a good quality post. It is easy to say Install SDK and the drivers, open a command prompt and flash this file...blah, blah, blah but that isn't very helpful. There are people that know SO much more about this stuff than I do...I'm still a noobie with this stuff and just learned about it (I'm not a linux guy) when I had to root my droid. I'm still learning as I go.

Good luck. You WILL find it useful in the future (adb) and is necessary to do certain functions. That's why I say the "easy" way of doing things isn't always the best way...there is a lot you miss out on. Don't worry, that's not a slam on you but I've run into "heated" conversations about it. Bottom line...You should know what you are doing to your phone before you do it. Kudos to you for being a 'noob' without the entitlement attitude! :D You'll find that people are much more willing to help if you take the "I'd like to learn" vs. the "Can you do this for me" attitude ;)

Thanks alot man! :) This phone just sucks you in! One last question before I finish that novel of a thread! After installing the SDK starter pack, do I need to install ADT plugin, add platforms to SDK....(pretty much #2-6 of the developers page), if I'm not planning on developing apps?

No problem. As for SDK i think you are good if you just install the tools. All you are trying to accomplish is to be able to communicate with the Droid.
