Buyers Should Know

That Android is buggy!! They are subtle, but exist. I am moving to a cleaner OS soon, (won't say what kind cause then it will start a war) but if you are looking at Android, you should do your research. People will lie to you on here because they hate apple or windows or blackberrys. Even though they know their phone has bugs. Such as SMS, my Droid Incredible decided to erase all my text messages today, and I'm not the only one. Um what else, oh yeah, the market SUCKS now after their new design. SLOOOOW as hell. Oh and they like DEVs more than customers. Text lag, blah blah on and on. Little things, it's has fantastic potential, but some things need to be fixed and now ignored. So you should do your research before buying.

I have no loyalty to any OS, manufacturer, or carrier, there is no reason for me to lie.

The only *bug* I ever experience is having the incorrect assigned ringtone going off from time to time.

I have no text message bug or lag, though I use handcent. I use it for the features not because the default had problems.

I have been experiencing a few connect issues with the market, but that's the market not the phone.

Every mechanical or electrical device known to man has a few oddities that spring up for some people, that doesn't make Android bad.

Good luck moving onto your device of choice.

Same here, I have no loyalty to any OS or manufacturer I just want the best PERIOD! I have had iPhones, Droid Eris, Omnia II (Windows) Droid, Droid X, MyTouch 4G, and now the Nexus S, all in that order. Did you ever think it wasn't Android but HTC that created the bugs?? Android software is GREAT and when HTC, MOTO, Samsung, etc starts messing with it to "enhance" it they just create problems and slow down the OS. Try PURE ANDROID before you go bashing it!! The Nexus S is by far the best phone I have ever owned and runs circles around iOS and the iPhone 4 which is the "more stable" OS that I am sure you are referring to.

It is natural Android is buggy since it is a new mobile OS. However, I think the bugs become less and less for each update.

Agreed, all OS can be buggy. Android has been super stable for the amount of functionality it contains.

My RAZR was a lot less buggy, but it couldn't do 1% of what Android can do.

That is a very unfair comment, and does your otherwise-valid complaints an injustice.

This is a site dedicated to Android devices and populated by Android enthusiasts, many of whom have been using the OS since its very early days. It's therefore quite possible that some of these members have enough experience to tell what is a genuine "bug" in the software and what is peculiar to either a device or a particular manufacturer's customisation.

I'm now using my second Android device in 18 months, both HTC, and have had none of the problems you mention with either. Does that mean that your problems don't exist? Of course not. In fact, Google have acknowledged a known issue with SMS messages being deleted under certain circumstances and are currently finalising a fix for the problem.

I'm sorry the Incredible hasn't lived up to your expectations, and wish you better luck with whatever you choose to replace it.

.. you should do your research before buying.

That's good advice. Doing that, coupled with handling various devices in the stores, can lead a user to what they need.

The other big factor in assessing these things, is experience over time.

We see, "this thing sucks!" in every device forum out there, Blackberry to iPhone, etc. ;)

For me, Android is the best Operating System in hand held devices, with the iPhone's OS running a distant second. Palm used to be up there, but has been left in the dust, similar to RIM.

We must not leave out the most important factor of all with regard to OS choices: user opinion. We can take all of these mentioned systems and put them in any order of "best to worst" when it comes to opinion and user experience.

Every phone, no, every piece of tech has bugs. If you think moving to another os will mean you don't see any bugs, think again!

i am glad we all can have our own opinions on things.

my opinion is that you will never be happy, because you will never find an OS that will be bug free. visit any OS forum.. all are riddled with issues.

Yeah you all make good points. Could very well be HTC Sense causing issues. I know the frequent low space message is because of Sense. And I'm not trolling, I'm letting people in the market have a chance before spending $$$.

I hear ya man. It would be the same with crackberry.com or apple forums. They would be biased. That's good to hear google is stepping up with the SMS problem. I shouldn't have to back up my text messages. That's just unnecessary.

Nexus S stable?? I've heard several problems with it. Rebooting being the main one.

I had a windows mobile 6.5 motorola q9c and a blackberry curve and curve 2. I now have the Droid X, my mom and wife have droids, my sister has the Incredible. I am going to say that my least favorite was the windows mobile OS. However I would buy a blackberry if it did what I needed to.

I do favor Android. I have experienced issues with my Droid X but I know they are working on them. I definitely tell people to get Android but that is because the pros outway the cons.

Well, it's your decision, however, I often talk to friends and family members with that same point of view and when their phones get lost, stolen, dunked in the sink or smashed on concrete, they always want some way to get their stuff back.

My point of view is that nothing engineered in the history of humankind has been flawless, and if it's anything data related that I care about, I back it up.

You are deluding yourself. EVERY OS is buggy. Browse the support forums and you will see reports of all kinds for every phone.

That said, your difficulties as described are not really the OS but the manufacturer's customizations.

I see some of yall beat me too it...lol

I guarantee, may even bet some real money I can show you a troubleshooting forum section for every mobile OS out. And in that section you would find bugs, malfunctions, etc.

Exactly...Nothing is perfect. We as people are not perfect, so how can something we make be perfect?

I think some people tend to forget that a lot of the tech we have today is developed over the course of years and years of work.

Automobiles have been worked on for +50 years and they are still being worked on.

Windows 7 is where it is because, there was

Vista
XP
ME
2000
98
95

And a whole lot more/inbetween revisions/bugfixes ect ect ect.

Thats also not counting the improvements in hardware to allow for better os's. I mean we now have quad cores, dual cores 2 or 4 gigs of ram ect ect ect.

Android is less than 3 years old. I think the little green guy really deserves his credit.

The more complex you make something, the more prone to needing kinks worked out it is going to be.

I didn't have time to read every post here but my experience has been that my ipod touch 2g has been more buggy than my android phone. That was before i had ever installed any apps on it. Changing songs it would occasionally just lock up solid and wouldn't work until i held the power button for what seemed like forever and it rebooted. My lg shine plus will lag occasionally (600mhz processor) but never locks up to the point of needing a restart. These are my only 2 personal experiences with this type of tech. My old lg shine flip phone never acted up that i can remember in the 2 yrs i had it.

In addition to my last comment if i was to get a new phone tomorrow it would most likely be another android phone but my 2nd choice would be an iphone. 3rd choice probably windows 7 but I've never played with it.

if i did not get another android.. it would be a webOS... if it could make a good showing with awesome hardware quality.

if htc.. came out with a webOS... i think that would make me take notice..

HTC would probably screw that up the same as they do Android too

The same can be said of other OS's.

People will lie to you on here because they hate apple or windows or blackberrys. Even though they know their phone has bugs.

I demand an appology for this statement. I do not lie about my experience with Android on here. When asked about issues I have had with my Android phone, I say what they are.

Such as SMS, my Droid Incredible decided to erase all my text messages today, and I'm not the only one.

I'm sorry you had issues with your phone. I do know of others who have reported similar issues. However, calling us liars is not an appropriate response to the problems you have had.

That's an overly broad generalization. Every camp has its fanboys who ignore the drawbacks of their preferred brand but I wouldn't say that everyone here is a fanboy. Be careful with all your sweeping statements including how Android has bugs. Dig into your problems a bit to determine if it's Android itself, the UI (if applicable), an app/apps or your settings. It sounds to me like you're assuming a lot of trends based on a single data point.

Not to mention that I'm not lying when I say that I'm not having any of your problems with my Droid. I did root, switch to a custom ROM and I use Launcher Pro which has improved performance in general though. Deleted SMS isn't an issue for me but I'm using GV. Even if I did lose all my messages I'd just have to resync with my GV account.

Oh and they like DEVs more than customers.
Can you elaborate? That's quite a claim without any support.

So you should do your research before buying.
That's always the case. It's not unique to Android -- or even just mobile devices for that matter.
