Can anyone install Gingerbread ROM on my Droid?

Do a battery pull, wait 30 seconds and put it back in. Try to power it back on normally. If you wiped data before flashing a ROM, you're back to square one with a factory-fresh phone. :(

ok im having some trouble understanding the clockworkmod part of it. so what exactly am i supposed to do? i flashed clockworkmod already and it says 2.5.0.1

if you have flashed clockwork recovery mod and it says current version 2.5.0.1 you are doing great! have you copied the rom you want to install to your sd card? if so you want to reboot into recovery, you can do this through rom manager or by shutting down the phone and holding x and the power button at the same time (dont let go until your in recovery)

once your in recovery scroll down to "nandroid" and choose "perform nandroid back up" this will take a few minutes.

repost if you get this far so that way we know your good and safe before doing anything else.

T4rd & I gave you step-by-step instructions. Just follow them.

After you install ClockworkMod, flash Alternate recovery and flash Clockwork AGAIN. Scroll back up and follow the steps and you 'll be up on Bugless Beast inside half an hour.

ok its in clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1

performing nandroid backup!

its backing up now, wow this is exciting, seeing screens ive never seen before...this is mind blowing!

Before you do ANY flashing, back up what you have so you have something to fall back on if things go wrong again. Go to "nandroid" in Clockwork and backup.

After that, use the power button to back out to the previous menu. THEN you can wipe data and "install zip from SD card". Use the volume buttons to move up & down the menus, and the camera button to select.

BACK UP FIRST! :)

Glad to hear it's backing up!

Your in no way stuck, nor have you damaged your phone so you can relax on that. When your phone boots and you start ROM Manager it should show your current Recovery as 2.5.0.1. If you have this recovery and want to verify it then reboot your phone into recovery by shutting the phone off and powering it back on holding the "x" button on the slide out keyboard until the recovery comes up. This should take you into Clockwork Mod Recovery (if it doesn't you need to reflash the recovery).

You can navigate in the recovery menu with the volume rocker and you choose your selection by pressing the center of the D-pad. Once you have your alternate recovery make sure you do a backup again just to be on the safe side. :)

Now your set to flash a new ROM. Also beware of just randomly flashing any ROM from ROM Manager. Some of the ones are older and not maintained. I would stick with the most curretn such as Bugless Beast, Cyanogen, or such. Bugless Beast .6.2.1 is probably a good one to start with since it is closest to stock and then go from there.

edit: *** I need to either type faster or say less so I don't keep missing the bus!****

WOOHOO. alright once its done performing backup you are going to want to head to the main menu of clockwork mod, scroll to Wipe cache, do that, then scroll to wipe data, do this. (i do three times a piece you can do more or less) then scroll down to "install from SD card" once youve done this find the file you want to install and select it. let the phone do its magic and reboot when your done.

others feel free to modify my directions as I suck at giving them!

ok it says "install from sdcard complete". now i know i have to reboot, but just press the power button or X and power button?

*fingers crossed*

Just use the power button to get back to the main menu of Clockwork and "Reboot System Now"

EDIT: The first boot will take awhile so don't freak out! :)

^ ok! rebooting!

sorry for all the noob questions guys, i know its probably irritating a lot of you :(

waiting for the reboot!

sweet! phone seems to be running great!

Is there any way to get the apps i had on it before, or do i need to reinstall them? if i do, no biggie!

Thanks a LOT guys, i owe u all one. This forum has been so helpful, you guys got me over my fear of rooting.

Your apps should begin restoring automatically. If some don't, just go to the Market and install them. Let your phone sit while as it syncs up.

Welcome to the world of rooting & ROMming! Make a backup every week or so or before you do anything fancy to it. :)

thanks again, you have no idea how much i appreciate all your help. Time to do some more research and get my old apps back

would you suggest launcherpro with this rom?

I suggest LauncherPro with ANY ROM. Especially since you can save your homescreen settings and restore them when the new ROM is stable. That's a must for me.

I second launcher pro, I use it whether or not im running stock, custom rom, whatever!

once you get all your apps settings etc... I recommend performing another nandroid backup so you can make a backup of what your set up.

also since you are rooted you will want to look into apps like cache mate, set CPU, titanium back up, and root explorer.

You can try anything you like now that you're rooted. I will flash and try CyanogenMod nightly 34 until UltimateDroid 3 Final is released. Making my backups now :)

oh now that im rooted, i can delete apps i dont want, such as stock launcher etc right? by just deleting them normally like any other app?
