Root cancelled!!!

This could be big news...... before anyone freaks out though were gonna need some more information........

How often did you use it?

What did you use it for?

Were you roaming while using it? (Change your PRI to verisons perhaps?)

Did you use the built in sprint app or another one?

If your roaming or using it excessively it wouldnt be the first report of someone being kicked off...

You have to use it smartly.

First I'd like to say I'll find out for sure tomorrow. I got no notice other then I cant make calls or use data. I mainly used 4G with wireless tether. I used it every day and biggest thing I did is dl movies, but last night I dl a game on psn. I never did the prl stuff. So I'll let everyone know tomorrow for sure what happened.

Well, not being able to make calls or use data could mean a lot of things. Perhaps there is an outage in your area?

All the members I've seen get the boot for excessive data were using the Verizon PRL, and they all got a notice of cancellation.

See this thread:

Call customer service tomorrow and see if it's a network thing in your area. Please don't admit you're rooted and using the wireless teather.:)

Yeah, check your account info and tell us your Sprint data usage and your ROAMING usage.

I got a warning earlier this year about excessive roaming (;) from tethering lol), but it wasn't *becasue* of tether.

Also, if they ever ask you about tether, lie. :)

I don't think the *no calls* sounds like you're being caned. I think they need to give you a notice that you are about to be canceled because otherwise you'd be without phone service.

More info please :D

Only times I've heard of has been a letter in the mail notifying you of your account being suspended and then like a month later the cancellation happening.

However, if i remember right that person was TRYING to get kicked off the network so he could switch carriers. He was roaming while streaming movies to the wii.

Either way, keep us updated

40 bugs? LoL i know whatcha meant :) I got my first and only (so far) gestappo letter about the roaming bullcrap thing about a month ago, cuz i use the vzw prl, and havent heard another peep from em yet, so youd think that theyd yell at you first for "breaching the tos"

Stupid autocorrect!

By the way, check this out. Since you're an AOSP guy, I came across a pretty nice ICS theme. I got the HDPI version and it worked just fine.

Ok so I called and yes I was cancelled for excessive roaming! I don't know how, but Yup. I can't even get a line through Sprint. I got no notice of cancellation other then I can't call anyone! I guess try to get my Evo on boost. :(

Holy Crap! That's a first around here.
Do you know how much roaming data you used?

I would be interested in knowing that as well considering you said you didnt change to verizons PRL.

Also, most likely unrelated, but did your ROM have CIQ?

just to make sure as well op, you were uising the wireless tethering app and not the hacked sprint's hotspot correct? i can see maybe the hacked hotspot but, i can't see why with the wireless tethering app. very interesting indeed.

Ok so this is what happened I used 29 gigs of 4G data. So I'm assuming they looked deeper into why I'm using so much data. They seen I used it for downloading torrent files. I didn't use the hotspot hack cause it only worked with 3G. I use the wifi tether app.

So thanks to my dad im back up and running but I had to get a new number. Btw I found out that Sprint does throttle speeds after so much usage. I think he said 25 gigs of data. So if you limit your data to less then 20 gigs you should be ok.

Interesting. I suppose torrent downloads go over the P2P network. Because of your high data usage they looked into it and saw that you didn't subscribe to the hotspot feature as large torrents aren't common downloads for phone only reasons.
I guess one has to look at the amount of data and what type of data. You probably would have been ok if the amount of data was for streaming movies or audio. Since you did all that on 4G roaming shouldn't be a reason for this.
That's all I can think of.

I wasn't roaming. Sorry forgot to mention that. It just went to the excessive roaming department. At least I'm not stuck with the cancellation fee!

what if you have an unlimited data plan? is there still a "hidden" limit you can use?

I don't think he got booted because of the amount of data he used. The amount only gave Sprint a reason to look into what kind of data he used. They probably saw a lot of P2P traffic which only is used on computers. Since he didn't subscribe to the Sprint Hotspot feature they most likely concluded that he was rooted and used wifi tether (or similar) to circumvent the ToS.
