Root [CDMA] Help with rooting Evo 3d on ICS!!!

Ok.. Now to try this again... Open command prompt and paste in

cd C:\sdk-tools
Now you probably know this but you can't paste with ctrl+v in command prompt. You have to right click and hit paste.

OKay so i've renamed the file recovery.img and moved it into my sdk-tools folder. I think i'm ready to move on!!!! :D And okay sounds good!

Haha it probably looks like I'm crazy and talking to myself. But I forgot to install the superusersu into the roms folder but I did have the deodex rom file in there from yesterday so I just used that.

I figured it out, I didn't realize they were talking about navigating through the phone itself. So it rebooted and everything, is there a way to check if i'm rooted?

There's an app on the market simply called "root checker" that's what I always use to make sure I have root. Install and run it. Supersu will ask to grant permissions and the app itself will give you the good news!

I found an app called super SU, also when I turned it on it said there was a system update avaliable...did I just flash an older version of ICS? I'm also assuming you can't download the update...

The first time you use super su it will ask to update the binaries. This is ok just let it do its thing.

Yeah I did that haha but it also says there is an htc software update, you can't accept ota updates when you're rooted correct?

Anyways, thanks a ton everybody for helping me, it wasn't too difficult I was just being a baby and wanting reassurance. I could have spent a few hours researching and troubleshooting but having you guys help me was far more fun heh :) James Rustles if you're in Seattle I'd love to buy you a beer or something for the help!

Sorry I was away. I had a phone call!! Congrats on getting root!! You are correct to never take the ota. Your phone will still tell you when there are updates. I think there are ways to disable that if you want though.

Oh man a beer would be great. I'm actually not too far from ya but still about 2.5 hrs south! I hadn't even noticed you were from Seattle! Nice to see a "neighbor" here!!!

Hope you've been enjoying the AWESOME summer we've been having in Western WA, if you're ever in Seattle we can get drunk in honor of being rooted!

Just a few quick questions then I'm done:

-I use titanium backup pro do delete the bloatware yes? Or is there a method that doesn't require me spending $7.00?

-If I want to overclock the cpu I download setcpu correct? Is this advisable or should I wait until I know what I'm doing before messing with this?

-So if I want to use 4ext do I download it from the app store? Do I even need this if I don't plan on flashing any other ROMS?

-People always tell me about the awesome battery life you get from rooting a phone, how does this work?

:D

There is a free version of titanium in then market.. You can start with that. Yes setcpu will help you over/under clock. But I was wouldn't suggest it. I don't really know much on that topic but I myself wouldn't chance it. I don't know about 4ext bc I prefer twrp..and even if you don't plan on flashing roms (yet) ... You might in the future and also I would suggest making a Nandroid backup even with the stock rom. Just to be safe. So yes a recovery is still suggested. Better battery life is usually associated with different roms depending on how the dev makes it. My guess is with the stock rom you won't see a battery life improvement but I could be totally WRONG so don't base that off me. Best thing would just be to run it for a few days and see where you stand. :)

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that you will probably be asking how to flash a new shiny rom in a few days. Your already hooked and you don't even know it. :p

Haha! Sounds good!!! I'll send you a PM if I'm heading North!

-You do not need titanium backup to delete bloatware. I have my backup pro (which also costs $5 i think) but it is not required either. Check out Rom toolbox in the market. It has an app manager but it also has a million other features. It's kind of like having titanium backup and a whole bunch of other apps all wrapped into one. You will probably end up wanting to buy the full version for some extra features but it is on sale right now!!!!!
It's nice having an app to back things up though... You can try the free version of rom toolbox to delete bloatware!

-You can use set cpu to overclock. I think rom toolbox also has a section for overclocking. I would at least do some research before overclocking. I have never messed with it. I'm still pretty new myself. I am currently using a rom that is overclocked though so I am overclocked but I didn't do it myself. I must say the battery life is pretty bad on this rom but I'm usually near a charger so it hasn't bothered me too bad yet.

-4ext. Yes you can download it from the app store. Then you flash a recovery from within the app. So your TWRP recovery would be gone and you would have 4ext. It is not necessary to have, especially if you aren't going to flash anything. I have a feeling that you will end up playing now that you are rooted though. I did the same thing. I thought I would just stay stock but once I got more confident and learned more I keep wanting to learn even more and test new things out.
It really is a nice recovery though. It's really graphically beautiful, especially compared to the one you flashed. And it is touchscreen. So you don't have to use the volume and power buttons to navigate. You can check it out. You can always flash TWRP back on if you don't like it.

-I think it works on some custom roms by tweaking settings. There are roms that are meant to give good battery life. Theoretically you could perform tweaks yourself if you know what you're doing. I don't know enough to mess around in some areas of my phone yet!!! They do things like underclock at certain times to use less power etc.... I'm not very literate on the overclocking and such!

Does the free version let you freeze apps? ...But Setucpu makes it look SOOOO EASY!! haha. This is my old phone so I'm pretty much using it to learn how to root, I'm sure I'll be back ;) Are there any Roms you recommend? I think the stock ICS with sense is fantastic by itself!

^^^^ this is the man to listen to! I'm still learning everything myself. :o I just try to help where I can. This community has given so much to me it's the least I can do to try and give back. Without people like James us N00BS would be screwed! Lol

Perfect this answers all of my questions! I just looked up ROM toolbox, it's seems way better thank Titanium Backup. Thanks again for everything!!

Also are there any specific apps I shouldn't freeze that might mess with the operating system? I want to get rid off all the sprint apps and the 3D games/blockbuster app.
