Root [CDMA] Virgin mobile rom

Unlocking your bootloader only voids your warranty. They wouldn't cancel your service for that. They may refuse to work on the phone or something or charge for it.... When you unlock with htcdev it makes you agree that you understand you are voiding your warranty etc....

Did you run the ruu? Did it leave your phone saying relocked? If it put it back at locked you are good. The s-off is just the only one I know for sure because I went s-off and it returned my bootloader to a locked state. Now I never have to unlock it again because I am s-off!

I just wasn't sure if the ruu would also return you to locked or not. I would like to know. If you ran the ruu, go into your bootloader and post what it says!

Yeah i ran the ruu, and it still says relocked. Im going to look more about getting soff. Should i even try this. Should get my replacement tommorw. Also the phone was defective to begin with thats why i tried to unlock it because i have a replacement on the way. but after i flash it with custom rom it seemed to be fine no more problems. So do u think i should just keep the original phone and just put a diffrent rom on it. Or should i just take the replacement phone. The issue i was having is that when the phone goes into standby for a long period it wont wake up. This was from the factory. After a put custom rom didnt have any problem. After i flshed the ruu back to vm its started to do it again. So last night at work i changed the setting to never sleep. Only this time it just frezzes with the screen lite up. So i have to remove the case and take out the battery. Then restart it. I have to do this like 5 times in an eight hour shift at work. Also with the custom rom i only had it for maybe half a day. But never had any promblem. Does this issue sound like software or hardware. Also i have phone insurance will this void my insurance. Should i just short it out or something to make sure it dosent turn back on. And take the replacement. Thanks again.

I would say it sounds like a hardware problem. I only say this because I ran stock for a long time and never had that issue...

It wouldn't surprise me if they say that your phone isn't covered once they discover that the bootloader has been unlocked. Insurance companies will use any excuse in the book to weasle out of paying up...

Personally I didn't think it was that hard to get s-off using the wire trick. Being s-off can be handy. You can pretty much do anything you want and it allows you another option for flashing things a different way on things you would normally need a computer for. It will lock your bootloader when you get s-off which is awesome because then they can't tell. If you ever have to send your phone back in you will just have to run an RUU to go stock and then tell your device to be s-on again leaving no trace.

If you are s-off you never have to relock and unlock your bootloader for things.. S-off gives you the permission to do anything and ignore the status of your bootloader.

If you are up for the challenge I'd say do it! You have nothing to lose! Practice on the phone you are getting ready to send back. If it works you can hide your traces. If you somehow ruin it, oh well you have a replacement.

If you are able to do it and think it was easy, then you know you have that option on your new phone...

I can't tell you if you should send it back. I personally would want to if there was something wrong with it... I'd also want to make sure to send it back completely stock though. That's just me. Really only you can decide if you want to risk it!

If you want to go s-off, I'd suggest watching this video. Study it a couple times and practice the wire trick timing along with the video a few times before you try it for real. This way when you do it for real it will be easier.

I have been reading about the wire trick and looking at the diagram. Looks pretty easy. Honestly when i first saw "the wire trick" i never even thought of giving it a chance, because i thought there would be some soldering. Im going to try this in the morning After i get off work. The guide recomends to use stock rom. I dont think the ruu will work. After i unlocked and used a custom rom, then went back to my nandroid back up, The phone was still unlock but i didnt have super user. I dont think i applied the patch right. This is the first phone i have done. Im going to start over in morning and follow guide to a t. My only question is there a stock vm rom i could use in the unlocking process.

Here is the Evo V stock Rom. You could flash that... Personally I think it's easier to just keep the SuperSU patch on your SD card. It doesn't take up a lot of room like a rom does. It really does the same thing..

If you flash a stock rom, it is just basically putting superuser on your phone. Same thing as being stock and flashing supersu yourself. I just keep it on the root of my sd card nice and handy. Then it's always there if I need to root stock. No looking for a rom and all that.

It cuts back on a lot of confusion with people trying to find their own specific stock rom... You can just use a multipurpose patch like supersu and root any evo!

You are correct though. You will need to unlock bootloader. (Just run the command with the unlock code you already have)

Then Flash a recovery. Then flash stock rom or SuperSU patch!

Thanks again for all your help. Ill prabialy use the supatch. Im going to do this first thing in A.M. Thanks for the quick reply. Ill keep you posted.

I chosse not to change hboot. Now when i go to hboot it says locked, soff. Thanks again. And also i have a tip, for any one that dont want to cut and pig tail a wire, i used an old fashoned bread tie.

Personally me unless you have problems flashing ics or jb roms I haven't found a reason why one would downgrade or go s off, hence why I'm still 1.5 s on :)

One major great reason is that it returns you to "locked" status. It allows you to return to a fully stock state if you have to send your phone in. There are other benefits as well. It's as easy to do as unlocking the bootloader and gives more benefits. I don't see a reason not to ;)

Just for info, if you would have said yes, instead of saying locked it would have said juopunutbear. So that would be bad if sending back. Good call!

Finished unroot. Locked s-on. With factory ruu file. I could do that in my sleep after all that. Thanks again James.

I believe I have read somewhere you don't need to downgrade or go s off just to relock but I may be wrong as well

Well it's possible that there is a way to do it but I don't know how. I know that if you run the fastboot command to lock it, it will say "relocked" instead of "locked". Which would let them know you unlocked it. But there may be another way to get it to say locked, s-off is just the only way I know of.

Oh okay my fault wasn't thinking about it saying re locked rather than saying locked

Just wanted to chime in and say I'm impressed and surprised you guys didn't just point him to the evo v category and wipe your hands of it.

Well I might have had to suggest the evo v boards if we couldn't get it figured out! :p

I do hate when someone just posts "use the search feature". It's not helpful to anyone to say that.

It's funny because the process for rooting is exactly the same for both phones. The only difference comes with flashing a rom but if you are keeping stock you could follow either guide.

It's a good learning opportunity to help someone with something you are unfamiliar with. Now I learned a little bit about the Evo V!

You'll never catch me telling someone to get out! :D

So do i need to go to the evo v board to lets say a rom or radio, what confuses me is that its a 3d. I mean it takes 3d pictures. I also got my replacement and have it rooted with stock su patch soff with wire trick. Also does this phone have built in fm tuner i cant get any apps to work with tuner.

They really are the same phone. It is just called evo v on virgin Mobile. I think you could use either forum for the most part. I mean you got rooted using this forum...
I don't know a lot about this stuff but your virgin phone has a different hboot and I assume different radios etc than my sprint phone.

For example to get stock you need to run the vm ruu instead of the Sprint ruu.

I don't know much about radios. You might need vm radios or possibly they are the same cdma radios? Someone with more knowledge on this will have to answer that question.

I think you're fine either way, you just might have to do a little extra research or ask questions before doing something you're unsure of.
