Root Changing Rom's - Advice Please :)

Sounds like you didn't "flash clockworkod recovery" via Rom manager menu first

Read my faq...

Dan I did that y'day and it didnt work but just now I tried it again and this time I didnt see warning sign it booted properly but when I check the a2sd storage it says "information not available" and the internal free space is still the same as before.

Download a gparted live cd then.

You can't partition an sd card using Rom manager until you use the menu option to flash recovery.

Even then a2sd won't be shown until you flash an a2sd Rom. Which Rom did you flash

a2sd Rom?? You mean Cyanogen recovery? The link to Cyanogen recovery seems to be dead on XDA

No.

You're partitioning your sd card for a2sd. But you need a custom Rom that supports it.

Merely partitioning your card will not achieve this. You need a Rom.

Read the faq in my sig

Have you flashed miui yet?

No. I havent flashed MIUI yet. Thought flashing is done after partitioning SD card? Dont I need to change the radio settings too?? Im on official Sense Rom that wos shipped with Desire.

So partition the card and flash the Rom. If you've partitioned the card already, just flash the Rom. What's the problem?

hi rastaman ... ive just flashed the latest emiui and i dont think the a2sd is working .. its not showing up in titanium but it is QSI .. you say to look in the thread on xda to resolve this but i cant find it ..any chance you can post a link to it please ?? cheers

no I dont. Titanium backup does not read the a2sd setup in miui correctly. Qsi reads it correctly, if you wanna double check you can use the commands listed in the first post of the original thread. I'm using my phone so I cba searching for you lol but its there

I say check the commands if its not working. How much internal memory have you got

Problem is Im unable to partition my card. I am lead to believe that I have to partition SD card 1st? Is this true? Or can I install MIUI Rom dat supports ap2sd like eMIUI 1st and then partiation SD card afterwards?

I need some clarification on that please?? Im tearing my hair out over this!! lol

Rastaman I noticed you have eMIUI rom. What is your suggestion? I have a stock HTC Desire running on Sense and Ive rooted with Unrevoked.

Yes you have to partition card first. The screen you get when trying to.partition is because un Rom manager you have not flashes clockwork recovery. See apps2sd faq in my sig

Problem solved! I think!! I installed Amon Ra Recovery and it seemed to have done the trick BUT a quick glance on the Quick System app it says ''Information not available'' Strange!! Hmm

Does eMIUI 12.28 rom have rounded icon theme on it?? The screenshots has different one on it... Can anybody confirm? How is the Wifi?

im not using 12.28. im using emiui

if iy doesnt show the a2sd in QSI then run the commands on the first page regarding a2sd

how did you partition the card? via amonRA?

Yup via Amon Ra.. Sorry how do I run commands? What eMIUI version are you using? Is it stable on Desire? Everything works smoothly??

Sorry mate, I am a complete novice at this. I only started looking at rooting couple of days back and have done alot of extensive research but there are alot of unxplained answers! So you'll have to bear with me.

Anyway I ran a Terminal Emulator on Desire. It says a2sd not found!!? But the AmonRa says the partitioning was successful.

did you partition prior to flashing or after?
what partition did you create 2, 3, or 4?

i appreciate you are a novice, everyone is at some point. what i was trying to point out that many times on this thread to others and yourself i have said exactly where that information is.
its mildly frustrating thats all and as a novice it pays to read every finite little detail

I wonder if this simply because I havent yet flashed a MIUI Rom that supports a2sd or am I doing something wrong?

Should I go ahead and flash eMIUI Rom and see what happens or is there something else I can do first to make sure the partition has worked?

I havent flashed anything. I partitioned Sd card on AmonRa twice now. 1st time jus setting swap to 0 and ext 2 to 512mb. Second time i created ext 3.

I wonder if i should replace my Sd card with a new 1. Would that help?

no, you are just doing it wrong.
miui will not just automatically find that youve enabled an ext partition.

you should just have a fat32 partition and an ext 3 partition nothing else

once created then install miui mod
you can either flash it over the top and hope it picks it up
or wipe and flash

DONE!! Im officially on eMIUI Rom! Rastaman I read somewhere Just cos the a2sd info wasn't showing on the Quick Info app doesnt mean AmonRa didnt partition the Sd card. So I flashed the rom and voila a2sd is showing total: 458mb and free: 357mb :D

You need partition AND apps2sd+ Rom for qsi to show it

as i said flash over the top and it could pick it up

your error is that you partitioned after your 1st installation of miui rather than before.

He told me he hadn't flashed anything.

Anyway....

I'll rephrase.

You need to partition AND flash an apps2sd+ rom (in that order) for qsi to show it ;)
its the way he explains things mate

he was already on a miui build but he didnt have a2sd as he didnt have a partition.
he thought by creating a partition it would find it and enable a2sd
of course as we know this will not work.
when he reflashed the rom over the top it fixed it

Dan is right.. I didnt flash anything I was just rooted. I explain it now, When I tried to partition the Sd card numerous of times, Quick Info was misleading me saying ''info not available'' I was on the verge of giving up so I decided to add few of my apps back esp the ones that were deleted in the process of partitioning the Sd card.. That's when I noticed the Quick Info was not greyed out anymore! A2sd was showing total 2mb and free 1mb. So I thought maybe it has worked!? Expect it was only showing tiny amount of space on A2sd

Afer doing a lil research into that, I found Dan's guide on Apps2SD where some guy was having the same issue as me except his phone's A2sd was greyed out and not showing anything but he went ahead and flashed his phone to enable the A2sd which did the trick... http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/220627-faq-apps2sd.html (scroll down to the bottom on the 1st page) So I decided to take the plunge and it has worked!! A2sd is showing total 460mb and free 345mb whilst the Internal memory is showing total 148mb andd free 126mb. Surely that means its partitioned now! As for the rom itself I am loving it!! :D
