It's cool to hear about how people from other parts of the world celebrate Christmas lol.![]()
So the 'buy whatever you can and squash whoever is in you way' mentality is there as well?
I don't know how bad it is in other countries but here people get killed. It's stupid.
You're referring to your 'Black Friday' shopping sale? If so we don't have that here. We do however have a sale on Boxing Day where people push and shove trying to get a bargain, but (AFAIK) nobody's ever been killed in the crush.
Boxing Day is called Second Christmas Day here

More and more stores are open then though.
How about theming for your decorations? Do you take that same boxes with deco stuff from the attic every year to decorate the tree and the rest of the house? Or do you vary? Following any hypes?

Besides, don't you get pressies on December 5 or 6? Shouldn't the sales start December 7?
Our themes are:
1. the decorations are out
or
2. they're not

) receive presents. I think Santa Claus finds his origin in our Sinterklaas some how.

Why do you call it boxing day?
but it's actually my dad's birthday. Yes, December 5 we celebrate Sinterklaas, when kiddies (and adults) receive presents. I think Santa Claus finds his origin in our Sinterklaas some how.

We just call it 26th December.but it's actually my dad's birthday.
Sinterklaas...nope we don't do that one either.
Didn't Santa Claus start or become popular because he was an ad for Coca Cola in the 1920s or something? The reason he wears red and white?
Nothing but a commercialised mostly made in China free for all IMO. Any Christian meaning of it went long ago. As a boy I thought it was great. So now living in a country that doesn't actually celebrate Christmas is great for me.
....just get a heavily diluted background version of it all year round. Although I'm sure China Inc. does very well out of the season, with all the manufacturing and exports around this time of year. How about theming for your decorations? Do you take that same boxes with deco stuff from the attic every year to decorate the tree and the rest of the house? Or do you vary? Following any hypes?

Here is a picture of Father Christmas in red and white.

^^
That really is an old picture, and not something that was pulled from a Dickensian or Victorian themed Christmas card?
Santa Claus in red and white, circa 1930.

I got the idea that his apparent popularity was really due to a very long running seasonal ad campaign, that's still running today. "Holidays are coming!...Holidays are coming!..."![]()

My mom loves coke. When she was a kid, she agreed to get her head shaved for one
I don't recall but quite young. Possibly 10 or so
Lol the whole Coca Cola thing I think was subliminal btw.
Get kids to want to drink coke lol.
Coca Cola has been doing subliminal messages for a while. I played my great uncles really old relaxing ocean cd and it said pretty clearly "Drink coke! Drink coke!"
I think they actually got in trouble for it once, but I don't think the government has the heart to get rid of the polar bears and Santa.![]()
I got a picture of it somewhere, see if I can find it.Coke is huge here.
