Is the latest version of clockwork recovery (3.0.0.5) good for use with the evo? When I first rooted my phone, it was recommended in the instructions to use 2.5.0.7. Now Rom Manager keeps asking me to update to the latest version. Will I have any problem using that version for my backups?

I suggest you use cw 2.6.0.1 its the only one that works with both script types and backs up wimax. I really suggest amon ra 2.3 if you are open to the switch...
i use 2.6 ever since the problem that i had, which was that i couldnt update my radios with 3.0.0.5, i was told to use 2.6.0.1 and it worked and stayed with it ever since and its working perfectly for me, ived flashed around 4 roms and 3 diff kernels on it, and not 1 problem. rom manager asks me to update to latest version but i just ignore it, no biggie, and im able to restore my backups perfectly no problems
