Root ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 (file system/recovery utility) update 01/12/12 FIXED

Thank Hroark! :) I installed CWM and CWM update... Do I need to install the recovery in the third part or is that only if I brick my phone!?

that third is only if you want to restore the stock recovery that came with phone, if you do that, it will remove CWM, so you dont want it

Don't know if this is the proper place to put this I got CWM installed and working did a backup and then tried to install [THEME] Simple Blue 4.2, Simple Green 4.2 after using the theme zip it gets to the Samsung flashing logo and stops even waited for 10+ minutes to make sure it just buzzes every once in a while.

I went into CWM and restored the backup I made before I tried to use the theme and still getting the same thing(samsung flashing logo with buzzing)

I had it starting up normally and everything working after installing CWM so has to be something with the Theme not working somehow that stuck in the phone even after restore. Anyone have the stock 2.3.5 GB Theme available or some other idea on how to fix it without wiping all data on my phone using Odin?

This isn't the right thread for this.

Your mistake was trying to flash a Froyo theme that requires shabbymod onto a Gingerbread system. You should really read the requirements on things before trying them :)

There is no other way to fix your phone than to use Odin. You'll need to dualboot or get a good virtual machine that lets the windows guest see the USB devices if you're not running windows

Hows the project going. Wish I coulf help out

its really not going, I put a lot of time into it, and when the GB ROM came out, it is like I have to start over from the begining again, and running into problems with the RIL (radio interface layer) and the new kernel

I needed to take a break from it, I was neglecting other parts of my life, I am not sure when i am gonna start working on it again

Thanks hroark got CWM working perfect and for the boot fix. Also, thanks to Koumautsu I was able to get it to boot and then using CWM advanced restore I was able to restore just data and worked perfect back to the way it was before I tried to flash a bad theme.

I'm sure most understand what you did and what you are saying but I just want to clarify for anyone that reads your post wrong. You didn't "flash a bad theme" its just that the theme you picked was not compatible with the things you are running on your phone. Simple blue/green are great themes. I just didn't anyone to interpret that the theme is a bad/corrupt one :)

OK this has been bugging me for awhile. Lately when I try to make a backup it goes through all the steps and right at the end when its completed it says "error while making a backup image" the backup shows up on my list but I'm not sure if they are good backups I don't know what the error is or what the "backup image" is? If my phone is not making a good backup I'm really nervous to do much Modding on my phone. The one thing I do know ids that at one time I had a "bad" SD card partition and my phone was only seeing half of the partition and the other half was in space or something. I ditched link2sd. And did a new partition and used a2sd. Everything works fine now and I have both partitions working. When I did repartition I lost everything on my SD card at the time. All I can think of is possibly the SD card got tweaked out a little and maybe that's why it has an error trying to do a backup?????? Any ideas guys?

Thanks!!!

Here's what I do when I make pre-mod backups: http://androidforums.com/galaxy-prevail-all-things-root/429867-odin-image-file-creator.html

where Titanium and CWM make archives of your files (like a traditional backup utility in windows), This is a complete image (though not of your SDcard or SD-ext partitions) more like Ghost

what did you use to partition the card

what did you use to partition the card

CWM is what I used. The first time I split it forgive my ignorance the second number you are suppose to select (can't remember what its called) I selected the number in the middle. I think that's why my phone never reconized the partition with link2sd. Well then I learned to select "0" so I redid it and split the SD in half and selected "0" and started using a2sd. No problems now except the "image error" deal.

Thanks!

Don't sweat it, bro. Most of us are still trying to figure out the stuff you did a month ago. Your productivity has been amazing. At least now we know that you are actually human! Holidays are for family and friends. Take care of bidness and when you decide to get back on it, we will all once again benefit from your talents probably even more.

Update & FYI.

Yesterday I ODIN'ed to GB with Root and afterwards I did a backup without a hitch. I guess something got messed up along the way when I was on Froyo at some time. I bet if I were to have re-ODIN'ed my EE14 froyo with root when i was having that problem, it probably would have been able to do backups again also. I guess something was just messed up in my phone and it was causing the backup to not be able to complete itself?

I have the GB update installed, and I rooted the phone. I did a factory reset, then installed this, CWM 5.0.2.6, using Odin, it installed. I want to know now is it ok to delete the stick.zip from the sdcard, and do I now have to do it all over again for the second part which has the HROARK_CWMv5_SPHM820_Updt.zip file? -if so, what does this updated file do to the first one I just installed.

Or is this for people who already had a previos version installed?

little confusion on the way it's posted in the first page.

I believe those two cwm files are the same.. the update was for devices
with the older version of cwm to upgrade for hoarks cm7 release.. And yes as long as you installed the stick.zip its safe to delete..

this is correct

I could have just put one Odinable CWM out, but I wanted to give the option for people to just do an update

I am fully aware of how busy you are and do not want to take up much of your time. I just ordered a transform ultra and have been reviewing the all things root. They have not yet released cwm but there is a dev that has its files for it here
https://github.com/DRockstar/AIO-Root-ClockworkMod
it needs some work from what I have read in the thread. The question I have for you is, do you think it is possible for a person with little to no experience to try their hand at this, or is cwm one that should only be attempted by advanced users. And if so, can you direct me to some literature or site that may get me started?

Well in my opinion this is how development for a new samsung phone should go

1. Get root
2. Get working version of Odin or some other way to recover and write to the partitions, especially the recovery partition so that you can install CWM or some other custom recovery
3. Develope a custom recovery, most likely CWM
4. Develope custom roms

So if no one has gotten Odin working for this phone yet, that is the next step, since it has already been rooted

This is how I did it, I had very little experience with this stuff, but I tinker with computers and electronics a lot, so I learn quickly.

Everything I have done for the Prevail, I learned by mimicking how other people do it on similar phones

I figured out Odin for the Prevail by doing it the same way the Galaxy Ace is done, same thing with CWM for the ACE that Coolya made

For my CM7 I used Psyke's source files for the GT 5100

So for the Transform you want to find a Samsung phone that has a similar processor, and similar partition structure, and see if anyone hasy gotten Odin and CWM to work with it, then just mimik their work.

If you get it working, be sure to give those people credit in your thread
