Freezing the NFC service does nothing unfortunately so I made a backup of it in Titanium Backup, uninstalled it, and rebooted. Why the hell does NFC cause a wakelock? Is it a kernel issue? Google Play Services issue? Cyanogenmod issue?

Can't speak for freezing the app, but removing it made a huge improvement to my battery life.
It doesn't work anyway so why not just delete it?
 
So how I want to use this ROM but I'm afraid of losing my LTE, or it not working at all. Does flashing the APN fix really work?

For some, yes. It does not work 100% universally across all Volts though. If you're worried about losing LTE, I would hold off on installing any of the CM ROMs until it's resolved.

How long do you think till it will be fixed?
And if it does mess up my LTE can I just revert back to my backup of my stock ROM and it'll fix LTE

As for the first question, I have no idea. I'm not a developer.
If it does bork your LTE, you may be able to get it back by reverting to a backup. It's also possible that it may not. In my case, I lost it and restored my ZV5 backup and it was still gone. I then restored the ZV3 TOT file and still no LTE. Factory reset did not solve the problem. I tried all of the many, many solutions other users reported as fixes that worked for their devices and nothing worked. VM/Sprint customer service didn't know what to make of it either. My case got escalated to the highest level of tech support and they couldn't figure it out. I'm now on my second Volt and happily on ZV5 with functioning LTE. There is just too much variance in how this ROM does/doesn't work with various Volts at this time for me to risk installing again. Just my two cents.
 
I think my Virgin Mobile LTE is working correctly, finally. Here's what I did:

Wipe everything including sd-ext, flash the ROM, gapps

Reboot, set everything up with WiFi

Go to recovery, clear cache, dalvik, data and then Flash APN fix

Reboot, set everything up again using WiFi, enable developer options, enable root in developer options

Install Change APN app from play store

Go into app, select APN1 Virgin Internet LTE and change proxy and port both from "null" to "0" (without the quotes).

Using a root file browser, edit a file in system/etc called apns-config.xml and delete everything except the entry for APN1 Virgin Internet LTE. My first mistake was leaving some stuff I thought was needed in the beginning of the file, but just delete it all except that entry. It'll start with the line that says VIRGIN MOBILE CUSTOM APNS and it will end with the line that says /apns.

Lastly, dial *#*#4636#*#* and select Phone Information and then click the menu, Select radio band, and choose 1900-MHz.

I'm not sure if all of that was necessary but that's what I did and now it's working.

Update: STILL having issues. But I downloaded an app called Connection Stabilizer Booster and enabled Active Reconnect. Seems to be working, but we shall see!

I'm hopeful for this. It combines most of the commonly tried fixes and you put it in a nice step by step format. If it works as a fix, hopefully it also helps us pinpoint what's causing the problem in the first place.

Did you just buy a new one or have them send you a new one

If you lose lte and want to revert back to your backup, you can flash candy5 here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934546729 along with the apn fix in OP. Reboot and run through setup as normally. Reboot to recovery and restore backup. Not sure why this works but it worked for me, thanks to @bg4m3r for recommending this fix.

I honestly have had no issues with this ROM other then MMS. But when I flashed the 4-17 build it fixed it. I don't get dropped calls, no reboots, LTE all the time. Signal is as stable as was on stock. Both cameras work flawlessly, NFC works without battery drain or hiccups, blue tooth syncs to my headset with no problems. To be honest I've had less issues with this ROM then I had on stock ZV5. Oh and battery life is ridiculous..... Average so far is about 18+ Hrs.....I'm on VM.....great job BAD_MOFO_33 looking forward to more updates
 
So, I just woke up from a nap and decided to check up on this thread. Come to find out, I had an alert. My ugly ass won second prize in a beauty contest lol! My LTE was acting up earlier, but I just tried Andrew Fisher's fix. We'll see what's up in the upcoming hours.
 
My issue is that when I turn off or lose Wi-Fi connectivity, I have to go into my APN settings and toggle between the two. Only after doing that will LTE fire right up.

Mine too. Connection Stabilizer Booster app seems to have fixed it.

Edit: Oh god nevermind. It seems to help but definitely didn't fix it.
 
Bad_MOFO, I've tried everything. I don't understand what the trouble is. Why isn't it reconnecting, but it will if I go in to the Change APN app and select the correct APN again? It doesn't make sense. Shouldn't it do that automatically? Why do we have to do that manually?

Same here ROM is howsome all worked you just mentioned.. My only downside is Netflix,video recording not save..in my opinion is not that a big deal but Norway day u got to have at least video save in u phone:rolleyes:
