Root CM7 Random Issue Thread

OK, heres the situation: I was trying to upgrade to 2.3. after numerous times of downloading cm7 and gapps and all that, the only success i had was the phone made it to the new ASCEND logo (blue and whatnot) and it would freeze up. so i decided to not try to upgrade and flash back to a recovery of 2.1. wellll for some reason as i was clearing all the mounts and storage it also decided to format my sd card, which had the back up of 2.1 on it. so now i have a bricked phone. the only way i thought of getting around it is to take anothere huawei ascend 2.2, run gingerbreak, and the rom manager and make a backup recovery of 2.2 on the sd card. (from the old phone) and put the sd card into the new phone, run CWM and backup 2.2 on it. well, it worked but only to a certain extent. i did manage to unbrick my phone, but any metro apps, anything that has to do with the internet (wifi, market, ect..) does not work. im getting a message that says unable to connect to internet and fior the apps it says they are not installed on this phone. so what do i do.

You can always download the stock recovery, and then hook up to USB on your computer, and then just run the stock recovery.

You might have an issue using the backup with a different phone on that one. In fact, I'd be surprised if you didn't. Flash back to stock. Then go to the market on your computer, and look at your history of all the apps you've gotten, and re-install them. Time consuming, but if you've lost all your backup data, not much else to do. You'll have to re-root and re-install CWM if you want to go ahead and give BobZ's Lazy Ascend CM7 a try. Might have better luck with that one.

I would try again w/CM7.Get a new copy of it though,since you experienced issues w/it the last time(sounds like you could have got an incomplete/corrupted copy the first time).
Also,when you get to the blue screen,give it time to settle in.Sometimes it can take a while(5-10 minutes),I know my first flash seemed to take forever to finish booting up,& this is typical of first flashes of any new ROM.

Is anyone having issues updating apps in the market? Every time I try to update any apps, it dl's fine, but when it tries to install, it says "package file not signed correctly"...

if you have titu installed open it and scroll down to market and tap wipe data, than try it again.

every time I upgrade to cm7 my phone will call someone but it doesn't say it on my call log. I just look at my sisters phone and it says I'm calling her but on my phone it doesn't show anything.

I had that problem. I read somewhere to uninstall TiBu and you wont get that anymore. I uninstalled it and havent had that issue since. I actually ditched TiBu all together and havent used it since my very first flash.

Not saying this is the problem but you might not be letting the zip file completely download before moving it. I did that once. It showed up in my download folder before completely it downloaded and I moved it to a folder where I keep all phone/back up/flashing related stuff, then copied it to my SD and when I went to flash it wouldnt. And then when I went back to my download folder on the computer there was another zip file. So when I moved the first zip I only moved the part of the zip that was downloaded.

My only issue is custom individual ringtones. No matter what, whatever is set in the settings/phone as default is what is played no matter who calls. If you have a lot of contacts like i do, its kind of nice to know the different people calling by their ringtone.

Ive been trying to do what he is trying to do and I'm stuck on this attempt. I converted my song that was an MP3 to .oog on the computer and I opened up Root Explorer went to system>media>audio>ringtones and stuck it in there. I then changed all the permissions to what all the "stock" ringtones had as theirs. Now this is where I'm stuck. All the rest of the ringtones have the "Owner" and "Group" set as "0-root" but the song I put on is set as "Owner 1000 - system" and "Group 1015 - sdcard_rw" How can I change the owner and group to 0 - root? It wont let me in Root Explorer. It says "Owner/Group change was not successful. Please note that some file systems (e.g. SD card) do not allow owner/group changes" I'm attempting to get it to show up in the "Android System" list when I go to select the ringtone. I have Handcent SMS so when I try to change notifications or ringtones it gives me the option of "Android System" or "Handcent" All my music will show up in Handcent but of course when I set the ringtone from there the system ringtone still rings and just over rides that. Go to ROM MANAGER & run FIX PERMISSIONS.
I've done what you've tried,along w/fix permissions,but,still cannot assign individual ringtones.Maybe you'll have better luck.
Also,when in 'ROOT EXPLORER',make sure you have selected "r/w"(read/write) at the top of the page.

Nope didnt work for me either. But I still cant change the owner and group to 0 - root I think if someone can find a way to change owner and group to 0 - root it would work because the ringtone thats over riding it is a root.

It may not have worked,but,hopefully,this is valuable information for developers (Playful God) to find a solution to this issue.

Well on one of the much older builds...i think like a 4/16/2011 or something like that, you could actually set individual ringtones, and it worked. What happened after that i do not know.

once i switched to cm7 7.28 my reception got shitty as hell, i could not send/receive texts all the time, people would call and they said it would ring and go to voicemail but the phone would not ring, i would get "text not sent" error messages for texts that were sent, i would get the same text 3-5 times repeatedly...it would also reboot randomly for no reason...this all happened no matter how many times i flashed it. and i followed the directions on the thread to the dot. Using the 2.2 froyo minus bloat and everything is good so far, im gonna try bobz lazy ascend mod and see if thats any better.

Ahaha Its a Gingerbread man an android and Zombies titled ""Zombie Art by Jack Larson" and if I tap on "Mod Version" a bunch of times I get a duck on a boat titled "Brought to you by your friends at TeamDouche"? Ahahahahaha Do I win a prize?! Ahaha

Just noticed this. When i plug my phone into the computer via USB I no longer get the "Debugging" icon at the top like I use too even tho I always keep debugging checked. I even installed the drivers Nutmeg always posts and all of them installed except for one. I am running BobZ's CM 7.1 07082011 (729mhz) and it does say (USB mounting broken) next to it on the prepaid site, is that why I dont get the debugging thing or is it because of that one driver that wont install?

USB is functional on the CM7.2 07282011 build.You have to pull down the notification bar to view it & enable it.An icon should appear in the status bar to alert you that you are connected to your PC.
If you can't see it & are using a theme that is not included in the ROM,I'd temporarily switch to one of the provided themes & see if that helps.
I was once using one of the dark blue honeycomb themes & had issues accessing notifications in the status bar.
Perhaps one of the wireless (WI-FI) apps would help w/connecting to the PC.
Keep us posted on your USB issues.

Everytime I reboot my phone my OC settings go back to 600 max 245 min even tho I set them to 729 and 320 with the set on boot box checked. Fixes?
