Root Custom MTD

also im going through the miui rom deleting things i neither want or need, but i was just wondering if i uninstall some things i actually do want can i add them after ive flashed so it goes to internal memory?
ive deleted gmail as i can add it later and app share, all the languages except gb from pico tts, and i was wondering if i delete the apk for the digital weather clock can i add it after or does it have to be a system app?

130 system / 5 caches / 303 data

Everybody on XDA/MIUIandroid recommended cm7 hboot and so far its working very well. I flashed it through hboot cos I find it easier and safer that way...

Make sure you flash the MIUI mod (mount.dl script) you found earlier after restoring the rom!

Well I wouldnt delete system apps if you are going to add it back afterwards. Removing apps like Gmail are ok cos you can add them back from the market but removing those not found on market can be a problem its not straight forward as it seems...

nice one, thanks for that, ive never flashed hboot before so im kinda nervous, does the miui script work ok then?
 
Ok if you are familiar with fastboot commands. All you gotta do is place the cm7 hboot img in the tools section of SDK folder. Turn your phone off and boot to fastboot then run "cmd" and type:

cd\
cd\(name of SDK folder)\tools
fastboot devices (at this point your phone is recognized)
fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl-cm7.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache

boot recovery (select bootloader then recovery on fastboot list), wipe everything and restore rom

After that apply MIUI mountdl. script mod throught recovery! Done!

do you have to do it through adb or can you just do it through fastboot?

Morning Dan (:)) - how do i get the old alpharev tables over to you for upload to the useful toolbox, or is there a way for me to get access and upload direct?

GingaB/Ducky - MIUI XJ sounds good so i might give it a try. Take it coming from another ROM i flash the MIUI zip then the Mod zip before reboot, as I'm already on CM7 hboot.

Yup.. You'll find the mod zip in the 1st page...
 
Dan Im contemplating on removing A2SD from my rom complately. Where is the A2SD script stored? I found couple of files in "system/bin" a2sd and apps2sd.hlp?? are they the ones to delete?

the script will be in system/etc and be called something like 04a2sd or something along those lines
 
It will be system/etc/init.d and it could start with any number, but if you're seeing stuff in system/bin too, its most likely dark tremor and 04. Dark Tremor's a2sd script calls many other scripts to function. Its a very complicated solution.

System/etc/init.d is the location for all start up scripts (Scripts that run an device INITialisation).

@ Saltire, can you mega upload them or something?
