Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

SWEEETTTTTTT

Getting closer to custom bootloader/kernalness!!!

Hope so, I don't want to get my hopes up so I'm not going to get crazy but I've been contemplating returning the phone cause of the locked bootloader, so if this is true I will be extremely happy.

What it says

rainabba writes "Aside from rooting the DroidX (which was also done by Birdman), getting a custom recovery running is the next most important step in being able to flash custom roms. As of 6am GMT-7, Birdman and accomplished exactly that. It will take another day or 2 to polish the recovery and process to a point where it's viable for the average Android "hacker", but this should lead to Froyo on the DroidX, and who knows what else. It also PROVES that eFuse means little to us and Motorola has failed to prevent the "tampering" of their devices just as every other manufacturer has.

Pardon my noobness, but would someone give me some details on what this means? How exactly would this exploit allow a custom kernal or ROM to be installed?

Thanks :)

If we can install a custom recovery, we will be able to flash custom ROMs, even though they wouldn't be signed by Motorola

Yes, I gathered that. To be more specific, how is that different from the normal process for say, the droid? Are there still limitations to what can be done with the X due to the locked bootloader?

Just trying to learn something.
