Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

FYI
Full docs for install here. They use adb so if you aren't setup for that yet this may be a little hard to understand and it obviouslywon't work

How to get 2.2, Rooted, on your Droid X - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - How to get 2.2, Rooted, on your Droid X - Droid X Rooting - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home

just to be clear. i have an unrooted 2.1 atm. Part A is simply rooting the device correct? so i need to perform all of those steps, yes?

they're saying that if you are rooted before the update, you will stay rooted on 2.2 for those who are wondering. MDW is down at the moment. looks like are getting DDOS'd again.

If you're unrooted and stock just jump to the last section and start at step 6.

here:

  1. Copy the update.zip to your sdcard (see below for mirrors as they become available. update.zip released to the wild by P3Droid at MyDroidWorld)
  2. Reboot into recovery (power down then hold down home, hold down power until you see moto logo, release power (still holding home). Once you see the triangle with ! in it, release home then press search)
  3. Run update.zip

If you are rooted and want to keep root follow the second section on down. If you don't have koushs recovery you can skip those steps about logwrappers.

But if stock and uurooted just follow the steps above

If you want to root later just get the app it is MUCH easier.

You may want to go through the whole thing just to get some hands on and then you will be ready to unbrick your phone if need be. Matter of fact I would suggest doing that as it might be hard to set up the driver if your phone is looping.

oh hell just DO IT!:D

i had some weird issues with maps after updating and i had to force close it a few times. maybe something to do with the old cache. once i started moving around in the map it loaded like normal. odd though.

edit: nevermind i'm still having weird issues. if i move the map right when it loads it's ok. but if i don't, i get the error saying Sorry! The application maps (process com.google.android.apps.maps) has stoped unexpectedly. odd...

can anyone confirm that you don't need to root?

You don't HAVE to root beforehand. But if you don't root then 2.2 won't be rooted. If you root prior to updating then 2.2 will be rooted too.

This is the way I understand it anyhow.

Ok guess I just bricked my phone, stuck on Motorola logo during boot.

Can some one please PM the SBF file.

Thanks!

Justin

interesting. i'm sure it's just a matter of time before a root for Droid X with 2.2 comes out though.

Okay, so I'm confused by all the updates happening now... I just got my phone to EXACTLY how I want it after the 2.2 update...

I've not installed anything of Koush's yet or any recovery program etc.

What steps do I take now to get a good back up of my phone?

I assume, first things first, I install the newest Droid X Bootstrapper... but then what? Is there something else I have to install afterward?

You can make a backup using the bootstrapper app or I believe you can download both bootstrapper and rom manager and make a back up via rom manager.

Both seem pretty easy and straight forward. I used Bootstrapper app.

A backup from the Droid x Bootstrap will do you NO GOOD. You can't restore your 2.1 becasue it used an older kernel than the one you just installed. Someone else tried and his phone is a brick until he can sbf it. Best bet is to use TiBackup then if you have to go back you flash the sbf and restore your apps and data from TB. Or you can do a nanoidbackup from the bootstrap app before you go to 2.2 and if you have to go back you;ll have to flash the SBF root install Droid X bootstrap and then restore. Basically you have to get the old kernel back before you can go back to 2.1.

I believe the Bootstrap app was updated for 2.2 already. But, you're correct, you can't flash a 2.1 on a 2.2 Kernel or vice versa.

You could probably use the 2.2 Bootstrap app backup to restore your 2.2 set up. That's all I wanted to do and it should be fine.

I backed up using the updated Bootstrapper today....No brick. that's what I was implying.

edit- Thank you for clarifying that you cannot use updated bootstrapper to restore to where I was pre 2.2 leak. I was wondering that and am glad I did not try it. Thanks.

Yeah I wasn't talking about the backup but the restore of 2.1 once you've gone to 2.2 and the new kernel. But I see you figured that out:D
