Root CyanogenMOD 13 UNOFFICIAL Beta 2

Okay...

So, right now I have everything working just fine, and I have everything installed and configured just the way I like it (except of course for the LTE problem), so I DON'T want to have to re-do everything from scratch, and have to rebuild everything... ie) factory reset, re-flash ROM, and re-do all my apps, data, re-configure all the screens, etc., etc., etc., if I don't have to.

So, my question is...

Can I accomplish this LTE/modem fix by JUST flashing the MetroPCS modem (B06) zip file from TWRP, and NOT having to re-do the CM13 ROM?

Also... Does anyone know if this B06 modem zip file is compatible with the CM13 beta 2 ROM that I'm running. I ask this because in the link in previous post above, which directs to the thread for the modem zip file, everything in that thread talks about KK (4.4), and b13/b33 (butternoob?), and nothing about Marshmallow. So, I'm concerned about compatibility, and bricking.

Again... Thanks in advance to everyone who helps and replies.

Hi, take a look at this thread. You might need to flash the correct modem firmware.

The modem zip is for every custom ROM there is for the zmax whether you are on KitKat, lollipop, or marshmallow. Also, it is better to use the 444blmodem zip rather than the b06 modem zip. If you scroll to the end of the thread in the link above you'll see what I said about how I was having GPS problems and the 444blmodem zip fixed it. @bfldworker just hasn't seen my post or found the time to update his thread. You can flash it without having to re flash the ROM or wipe anything because it does not affect the system, boot, or data partitions, and it won't mess with the way you already have things set up. You don't have to worry it is safe to use on any of our roms.

Masterchief87... Thank you, thank you very, very much, on behalf of myself, as well as all the many, many people whom you help on all these boards... as I see that you certainly are a MAJOR contributor! Again, thank you!

Yes, what is it? I'm back on Broken 4-25-16 build. Still having the bluetooth issue.

Works here!!!

Unfortunately, my flashing (TWRP) the 444BLMODEM.zip did not change anything. Maybe I did something wrong? Was there certain steps? I powered down, rebooted into TWRP, installed the .zip, and rebooted.

I went into Cellular Networks, Preferred Network Types, and still no option for 4G/LTE (it's not even there as an option to select). I refreshed Network Operators, Reset to Default APNs, checked fast.metropcs.com APN settings, and still no 4G/LTE. I get fluctuating service of 3G/H/H+.

Please help. Anyone? Someone? Please? No LTE sucks when your phone is your ONLY internet access.

I have the MetroPCS ZTE Zmax, running CM13 beta 2 ROM, gapps (uncertain the version), $60 level MetroPCS service.

Thank you.

Except for my LTE problem, CM13 beta 2 has been working GREAT for me... Meaning, other ROMs I DL'ed (Carbon, AICP, etc.) had problems/errors, certain apps didn't function properly, etc. (such as the camera, flashlight, Skype (since it uses camera), MMS, Visual Voicemail (MetroPCS or T-Mobile versions), etc., etc.).

But on CM13, those apps/functions have been working fine, including GPS and Bluetooth.

Now if only we can get the LTE working, it'd be PERFECT!!! ☺️

The bluetooth issue is not that it doesn't connect. It's that it skips. When it does work, it plays fine until you turn off the car. When you turn it back on it starts to skip. Turn the bluetooth off and the music app stops skipping. Didn't have that problem with 3.9.

Okay, so this thread is for the ZTE Zmax (specifically the CM13 ROM beta 2)...

And, the ZTE Zmax, as we know, in it's original, stock, out of the box state had KitKat (KK), and if you subscribed to the MetroPCS cell service (as I do), you received 4G LTE service and speeds. So, we KNOW that the phone (hardware) is fully capable of doing LTE.

Can someone please answer this question:

I've recently upgraded my Zmax to Marshmallow OS, via the custom ROM = CM13 beta 2. Since this upgrade, I not only cannot get 4G/4G LTE, but the 3G, H, H+ signal I do receive is inconsistent. I tried a radio flash fix, but no difference. I also have read a lot about OTHER people experiencing 4G LTE connection problems as well with different upgrades/ROMs. Some people have also experienced (which I too have also experienced on an earlier custom ROM that I installed), that if they turn ON the LTE data, then they can't send/receive phone calls. However, this was NEVER an issue back when the same Zmax hardware had KK installed.

So, my question is, is this a problem with just Marshmallow in general? Or is this a specific problem to the specific ROM itself that I installed (or maybe how I installed it?)?

Being an I.T. guy, I'm thinking of it like this... when upgrading the software on your existing PC (hardware) from, let's say for example, MS Windows 7 to Windows 10, you suddenly find that your printer doesn't work, but, that's because you need to install the new Windows 10 "drivers" for your model of printer.

So... similarly, is it a similar issue in that we need a newer cell radio "driver" for Marshmallow?

Thank you in advance for any help and answers.

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

By any chance did you flash the BO6 modem after you installed your recovery? I did it and after upgrading to CM13 Beta2 and Broken Marshmallow I'm getting 4G and LTE as usual.... Make sure you fallow the instructions from Masterchief in post #152.. If this does not fix the problem, try installing Broken 5.1.1 ..

Hi everybody question since I'm still new with flashing. I'm on cm 12 with a switcher as indicated on that Rom. Interesting in flashing cm 13 this one here, do I just need to flash the rom with twrp, or do I need a switcher to do this?. I hope I make sense. Thank you for all the help.
Anthony.

Switcher's are for full system read/write so no if u apply switcher u won't be able to flash anything on twrp u have to restore twrp to recovery partition in order to use twrp

Hi, I hate to sound dumb but how do I go about restoring twrp to to recovery?. It's just this phone is so different than my stylo because of the way zte did it. I appreciate the help thank you.

Per Masterchief87's suggestion, I installed the 444blmodem.zip, instead of the B06, because he mentioned that B06 causes GPS problems.

Can anyone help clarify?

Would it harm if I try it? And would I be able to re-flash 444blmodem back again, if B06 doesn't work?

Thank you.

Ok, so I couldn't wait, out of frustration, and I tried it... B06. No difference. I then tried the stock (?) version... B13. No difference. So, I flashed back to 444blmodem. No difference.

In all tries, I experience the same thing, which is:

In 'Cellular Network Settings' under 'Preferred Network Type' I have only had two options to choose from... 2G and 3G.

No matter which modem I flashed, those were my only two choices. I've never seen 4G/LTE as I choice to select.

In addition, I've tried to select the 2G choice, just for curiosity, and it won't let me select it. It just stays with 3G.

THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING! UGHHHHH!

Are you sure you're using the correct apn settings? They are different depending on if your using metro or T-Mobile. After I changed mine I never had a problem with lte

This issue doesn't have to do with the APN settings, the problem is the "preferred network type" won't change, I've clean installed CM13, tried all modems, did the same in BrokenOS and the issue remains...I can get 4G/LTE with stock and ButterNoob for example...but no success in CM13 nor BrokenOS

GoonDoc, do you at least get the option of 4G/LTE in the 'Preferred Network Type'? Because I only see/have 2G and 3G.

At least now I know that I'm not the only one. Lol

P.S. It 'might' be safe to presume, from both our experiences, since we've both tried multiple modems and ROMs, that it is something else common between them? Something within Marshmallow itself? Or... because I believe I experienced this (along with others) within Lollipop as well. Meaning, is it a problem within the OS's since KitKat? Or possibly within the Zmax itself?

In CM13 I see 2G and 3G options but the changes don't stick, if I go to that advanced menu where more network types are listed none of those stick...the same happens in BrokenOS. So no...you're not alone ///

*the two screenshots are from BrokenOS where (in my case) the problem still exists, it won't stick to any Network Type

If you put the correct apn settings in you will see the 4g LTE option. If not you will only see 2 and 3g. I'm almost certain that's your problem. No need to flash modems etc. Just use the correct apn
