Root CyanogenMOD 13 UNOFFICIAL Beta 2

If you put the correct apn settings in you will see the 4g LTE option. If not you will only see 2 and 3g. I'm almost certain that's your problem. No need to flash modems etc. Just use the correct apn

I'm sorry, but unless there is a lot of misinformation out there, I've used (many times) the correct MetroPCS APN settings.

Okay, so this thread is for the ZTE Zmax (specifically the CM13 ROM beta 2)...

And, the ZTE Zmax, as we know, in it's original, stock, out of the box state had KitKat (KK), and if you subscribed to the MetroPCS cell service (as I do), you received 4G LTE service and speeds. So, we KNOW that the phone (hardware) is fully capable of doing LTE.

Can someone please answer this question:

I've recently upgraded my Zmax to Marshmallow OS, via the custom ROM = CM13 beta 2. Since this upgrade, I not only cannot get 4G/4G LTE, but the 3G, H, H+ signal I do receive is inconsistent. I tried a radio flash fix, but no difference. I also have read a lot about OTHER people experiencing 4G LTE connection problems as well with different upgrades/ROMs. Some people have also experienced (which I too have also experienced on an earlier custom ROM that I installed), that if they turn ON the LTE data, then they can't send/receive phone calls. However, this was NEVER an issue back when the same Zmax hardware had KK installed.

So, my question is, is this a problem with just Marshmallow in general? Or is this a specific problem to the specific ROM itself that I installed (or maybe how I installed it?)?

Being an I.T. guy, I'm thinking of it like this... when upgrading the software on your existing PC (hardware) from, let's say for example, MS Windows 7 to Windows 10, you suddenly find that your printer doesn't work, but, that's because you need to install the new Windows 10 "drivers" for your model of printer.

So... similarly, is it a similar issue in that we need a newer cell radio "driver" for Marshmallow?

Thank you in advance for any help and answers.

Shawn

Hey, in my settings I didn't have a lte option but my phone would still connect to it. It would show lte near my signal bars. Also are you in a band 12 area only?

I'm not sure what band area I'm in, but I live in Orlando, Florida... a major city, which I would imagine we have the latest stuff... Also, I used to get LTE on this same exact Zmax phone when I had it loaded with stock Kitkat, while living in the same area, whatever band area it is.

The APN settings are correct, on stock ROM they work and I've set everything just like on stock and nothing changes. Can't select different network prefs, they just won't stick...

I believe all of Florida has a strong metro and T-Mobile signal. If you manually created the new APN and that still didn't work. Idk what it could be. Maybe you should try a clean flash of the rom again

When I first installed my CM13 ROM, I DID do it clean, from scratch. But I haven't since tried to "re-install" it, to see if that changes anything. However, I believe GoonDoc DID try to re-install the ROM multiple times, and still got the same results. GoonDoc, can you confirm?

Can anyone answer this:
If I do need to re-flash this ROM... since I already have all my apps DL'ed, data installed (ie. texts, contacts, etc.), and desktops/screens setup the way I like it...
Can I just flash the ROM again "on top of" my current setup, without the risk of losing everything? Meaning, I DON'T WANT TO have to completely erase/factory reset the phone, just so I can re-flash the ROM, and THEN have to re-build and re-install everything back onto the phone again from scratch.

Yes, I did clean-flash several times...Also in the advanced Network settings menu, I can't select other radio bands. I'm not sure wether it can be related to the kis3ril.zip file I've once flashed along with other Roms or not.

@Masterchief87 @hroark13 @dfuse06 any word on this?

Well, I can tell you that I've never installed/flashed that zip file, because I don't even know what it's for, or does. So, I'm guessing that is not the issue.

I'm also guessing that if you've flashed the ROM several times by now, without success, then my doing so would be pointless, if not risky for potentially erasing my data.

Just for future knowledge though, can anyone tell me: if I just re-flash a ROM "on top of" the SAME (existing) ROM, with OUT pre-erasing or factory resetting the phone, will all my apps and data still remain as is? Or does the process of re-flashing a ROM erase the phone anyway, regardless of whether you pre-erase it or not.

Also, is there ANYONE else out there with this same LTE issue... Where 4G/LTE is NOT an option showing up in the 'Preferred Network Type' choices, and are also getting spotty 3G, H, H+ signal?

There MUST be others experiencing this!

Most ROMs automatically wipe the system before initializing the ROM installation.. FYI [emoji41]

Yes you should be able to dirty flash and save your data. Maybe you had a corrupt download. So you should try downloading again and then flash.

Google now keeps popping up the voice search out of nowhere so I had to uninstall Google now. anyone else have this issue?

Thx for the info :)
Let me know if you can change the radio band (press menu key to get to that option) also I could use a little help on getting this thing to show/stick to 4G/LTE because it only sticks to "WCDMA Preferred" I've wiped everything today and flashed butternoob rom just to check and it shows and sticks to 4G and other Network prefs, but as soon as I flash BrokenOS or CM13 all I can get is that "WCDMA Preferred"

No matter what I do I can't choose a different network preference...just flashed Metro 4.4.4 stock, and 4G worked, tried dirty flash of BrokenOS/CM13 and the problem persists, tried clean flash and the same thing...can't figure this out... also the radio band is set to GSM/UMTS and I can't choose a different one @hroark13 @Masterchief87 anyone, can you please upload your Ril as a flash able .zip file so I can test it to see if it solves my problem?

Hey guys. Im back! Sold my Note 4 and decided to revert to Zmax.

Question: Everything is working for me on this ROM except for in-call screen (the usual black screen that wont respond). I flashed the sensor fix and nothing seems to have changed. Do I need to flash the sensor fix immediately after flashing the ROM? Or should I try some of the old sensor fixes (I think i used to use the Flamingo fix)? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hats off to Hroark for this amazing ROM!!!

UPDATE: I flashed the flamingo sensor fix from 12.1 and it worked as it should!

I definitely have some bluetooth issues here. I tried connecting to an amazon echo and an insignia bluetooth speaker. both would only play for a half-second at a time, which i guess you could call stuttering
