thing is i don't see any search settings, for sure not in the main settings screen and can't find anything relating to that button in the cm settings or adw settings.
i may be blind however but i've looked many times, can't seem to find anything.

I am new to the rooting scene and love what it is doing for my phone performance. I have rooted, installed 2.2 and have just installed Launcher Pro Plus.
My problem is that when I turn on WIFI it will authenticate with my router but cannot obtain an IP address. It was no problem before all of this.
My question is, has anyone else had this problem? and if so, how to fix?

i would flash a previous nightly. this search function is on our android phones and i'm quite sure it hasn't been removed. it may just be the nightly you're on
not sure on this, but if it were me i'd reset the router along with the phone then try it again

is it safe to flash the latest nightly over cm6 stable?
i can just wipe the dalvik cache correct? do i wipe the regular cache too (will any of that affect my installed apps and data?)
i've also gone ahead and installed a new kernel for overclocking, i'd imagine i install that again after the latest nightly?
lots of questions i know, still pretty new to this.

wipe dalvik and regular cache, correct. always make a nandroid tho! do that before anything in case something goes wrong! wiping those caches won't affect your apps unless you wipe your data, which you shouldn't do.
you'll have to redo your kernal and overclock settings as well (flash your kernal when you flash your nightly)

i meant to press menu without long pressing it..in your menu settings there is a setting for search..and flash some of the previous nightlys to see if the problem still persists
the search button in the menu doesn't do anything either.
will try flashing another nightly in a bit, i'm burnt out on messing with this phone for the day. been flashing, tweaking, overclocking and everything in between for the past 2-3 days!

menu>>settings>>search>>google search>>check show web suggestions or searchable items can be configured as well
i don't have search anywhere in my settings... that's probably the problem.
am i possibly missing a gapp? i installed the gapps rom so i'm not sure what's up.

So what are the advantages to using cm6 versus Zen? I just switched from Zen and while I like cm6, I had Zen setup just the way I wanted. I like some things better about cm6, but there doesn't feel like theres much difference between it and Zen.
no, ive been running CM6.1 (final RC1 build) w/ uncapped kernel #14, overclocked to 710 (cant go to 768, but can go to 729, but it gets hot @ 729), & my phones been running like a champ, listen to music, browse web, play games, watch movies, no issues, though market can get slow sometimes

yes, but the nightly will replace the stable build, so either stay stable, or keep flashing the nightlies, cant have (both) a stable nightly

so after flashing the latest nightly clean (wiped data and cache) search works. it's not as pretty as it was on sense, but it works!
does the market automatically redownload your installed apps after a clean install? i went into the market after my flash to download titanium backup and it was already installing all my apps. i assume this may be something new with froyo? or i thought for a moment it was something i set in titanium backup but i don't see how that could be.
flashing the rom clean has also cleared up some other issues i was having.
Are you using Overclock Widget or SetCPU? Do you use the Collins battery tweak? TIA!

With the battery tweak uninstall SetCPU and OC widget. You can adjust the frequencies through the battery tweak
