Root CyanogenMod 7 RC

Anyone having forcecloses with Titanium Backup after updating to CM7? I can't get it to even start up it just FCs, which would make this otherwise awesome rom pointless.

EDIT: Also I feel like my phone is keeping too much data (call history, sometimes gmail stays installed after clearing cache and data, etc.) could that be the issue? If so any idea how to fix it?

I just downloaded and flashed RC1 through ROM manager. It loaded, but Gmail and some other apps kept force closing.I booted into recovery and wiped cache and did factory reset. I'm not getting any force closes at the moment. Will report back once I to Titanium restore. I'm coming from Skyraider, so I'm not sure how to restore certain Sense apps or what.

Has anyone got mattgs battery mods working on RC1? I attempted to flash the latest to no avail. Does it have to be done with metamorph?

ok flashed rc1 and it seems great. no problems and everything seems to function properly. i was wondering is there a list of kernels that are able to flash? i love ziggy's kernels but don't know which to use. anyone know?

Haven't tried anything yet. Will probably later tonight.

I did run in to one problem. Seek Droid can no longer communicate with my phone. It can't locate or lock the device. This is a real bummer and security issue for me. Hopefully I'll figure something out.

I'm looking to stay with this ROM for quite some time. I gave up flashing the battery mods when I would flash a new nightly. If anyone figures it out please let me know.

I can't figure out why RC1 was released and the nightlies are still being built. I was getting tired of the daily flash anyway, but I was just curious.

Think of RC1 as a "frozen in time" nightly. In this case, RC1 is essentially identical to Nightly #38. The Devs consider this release stable enough for more widespread testing.

The nightlies will continue to be built as things are added to the git repository. Nightly #39 was posted last night, AFTER RC1. Nightly #39 and all subsequent nightlies will have things added and potentially fixed that the RC1 will not, until another RC is released with the previous merges added.

For example, in a month, we might be at Nightly #70. The Devs might consider this improved enough to make it another RC and release RC2 (which is essentially Nightly #70). Then, nightlies will continue and the process repeat until a stable release is made.

so I have ever only installed 1 ROM, Virtuous. what is the recommended procedure for everything that I should do before installing CyanogenMod 7 RC?

back up via Titanium first? anything else?

will I have to reinstall all my apps?

I actually hate Titanium. I use myback up root. It is very simple, and backs up your apps and restores them in the simplest fashion. It also does a good job backing up your contacts As for procedures. All you really have to know is to BACK UP your last ROM, via nandroid.

The other thing you will want to do, is download dialerone. You lose the t9 dialer and sense contacts list, so dialer one will give you a decent replacement.

If your resistant to change, you may want to do this over the weekend, and give your self some time to tinker.

Honestly the best advise is to download mybackup root and back everything up with this app. It's a huge time saver. Even if you have titanium, it doesn't hurt to test out a second app.

Beware some apps that are restored may not work. Most of them just need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled.

The only true app I lost was myverizon. Everything else either worked right away after the restore, or worked after the reinstall.

Video player does work, and the camera software is REALLY good. The best thing about the camera software, is it tones down over-exposure. This was a huge improvement over HTC software as it seemed every picture I took had some sort of over exposure.

Good luck! Don't forget to Nandroid!

This is the first custom ROM that I have ever used, and I like it so far. I installed RC1 last night, and the only problem I have is the market will continually FC. I was able to restore all of my apps using Titanium, but I can't update them or download anything new. I tried fixing permissions in ROM Manager, but I'm still getting the FCs. Is this a problem that was fixed in a newer nightly build, or am I the only one?

@Beer Baron, the market is a google app that is added on "after" you install CM7. You may want to do another wipe and flash. The market should be working fine, you may just have had a corrupt file.

haha glad to hear my opinion matters to someone . Kinda like I listen to your ROM suggestions you got me hooked on Miui f& RR or awhile there

This month I'm buying a Gtablet and the Thunderbolt going to be a busy March of tinkering with the new toys haha
Nice. I'd love a tablet but just a little too steep for me right now. But the TB is another story.
I'm glad you got to CM7, it's probably the best out there at this time. I thought you initially had a problem with OMGB and we had to pull you kicking and screaming back. Not sure, maybe it was the other way around? Redemption is still the best as a sense rom for those that don't really like to tinker, imo. I actually have a nandroid of that rom, although it's dated 12/29. I wonder if it would still work?
Side note, I'm sticking with RC1 at this point. I download the current nightly and delete the old one but haven't flashed past 38. I basically keep it on the phone just in case I get crazy and have to flash something.

I'm loving CM7 and I sent you an email regarding Tablets

I loaded CM7 and then the Gapps package that was on the CM site. Then after everything was up and running I ran Ti backup and reloaded all of my backed up apps. Maybe I'm better off wiping and flashing, and then just starting from scratch and downloading all of the apps that I want...

Yes, make sure you guys are all getting the most up to date download. Theres was a "bad" one that was first released. This is where most of the bugs are coming from. The "good download" is practically flawless. No issues what so ever.

On top of that. Incredikernal- has released an INC kernal for gingerbread. I flashed it last night, and unplugged my phone this morning, I am at 75% battery and had pretty heavy use through out today. I can totally get 24hrs of battery life on this ROM with that kernal.

Happy Hunting! GL to all that are trying to flash, dont give up just yet..... CM7 is worth it.

OK I think my problem was that Ti Backup was restoring all of my apps including the Market. I wiped everything and reinstalled and now I'm just downloading all of my apps all over again. Everything seems to be working fine now.

TI sucks. Mybackup root works much better. Either one you decide to use, so apps need to be downloaded again from the market. It must be frame work issues between Froyo and GB.

Dont forget about dialer one for t9 access to your contacts!!!!

awesome. link?

anybody load this through ROM manager?

I have never loaded a rom from SD root - if I do it that way do I just drop the zip CM& file on there, or the individual folders inside the zip?

For either a Rom or a kernel, you just place the whole zip on the card, then boot into Clockwork and choose the option to install zip from SD, followed by the option to choose zip from SD. Pick your zip and load it up. I load everything this way and consider it to be more straightforward with less chance of error than using Rom Manager.

thanks! did a nandroid and my back root backup and have installed cm7

trouble is, I can't find the Market app so I can access the backup I did. can I find the market?

EDIT

I found I need to install Google Apps from zip. I did that. but I keep getting an error message, something about

"android process media has stopped"

any idea how to fix?

Maybe just try rebooting, then once booted back up try opening the market again. I'm assuming you are trying to get Titanium Backup loaded up for an app restore?

Also, are you moving from 2.2 in some form? If so, be SURE to wipe data, cache, Dalvik cache (advanced menu) all back to back in Clockwork before loading your Rom from the SD card. If you neglected to do this, ignore the first reboot idea I mentioned and reload the Rom from Clockwork doing the aforementioned wipes prior to loading the Rom. You can also flash Gapps right after the Rom if you want or you can boot into the Rom one time, then go back to Clockwork and load Gapps as a secondary step. I just flash then back to back but some opine the need to boot up once first before flashing Gapps. Seems to be user dependent.

yes (though I used mybackup root instead)

on another forum I was told to format the card from inside cyanogen mod,, so I tried that

yikes, now I am stuck with the blue Cyanogen mod reboot loop. is it safe to pull the battery and reinstall?
