Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

I just cannot get beta 5 to load I can download the file boot into recovery wipe cache and dalvik and so forth and so on .when I install zip from SD it has no problems it mounts everything as it should and finishes saying reboot phone freak then I reboot.it reboot back into recovery which I know is normal although it doesn't do this when I flash beta 4. And after a second reboot it starts up but never shows the boot animation which I know is exactly the same as beta 4 .it just gets hung at the small horizontal text that says android. Almost as if I was booting into cwm but without the blinking....... I have the map fix kernel and gapps but I was thinking these were nonessential parts that could be added later.. am I wrong . Am I doing something wrong .I s there some thing else I need to flash

Error I'm getting is mount dev/block/stll14 ......failed..........invalid argument ........that's the system partition right??? I'm not sure what to do from here....I'm gonna reflash beta 4 and look at the log and see if it says the same thing since 4 flashes with no problem.... kind of a constant and variable if you will

Okay let me just start off by saying I'm sorry if I sounded like a but head know it all....I didn't intend to. Secondly let me say I got it working. I think the problem was my baseband some how...I checked it before and it was ejo6 or at least the variation that goes along with beta 4 and it stayed the same even now on beta 5 but it wouldn't work until I plugged into Odin and flashed the file provided by the talented Mr hroarkly :D ..I feel ecstatic and ******ed at the same time.......ohhh well I think imma take a break from my phone and get on some mw3..

Thanks to all

t cwm i refered to was already on 5.0.2.6 which is only one version different from the latest and I got it from this forum but I will update and never had he problems with the cwm aspect of it.and I don't doubt that u know much more about boot. Img files than I, but I specifically remember that although I could not read the hexadecimal of the boot im g I refferred to win zip could and pronounced it unfit. I remember because I also pulled the boot img from beta 4 and poked around inside of it and it threw no error.....like I said I'm not doubting you guys or the collective being more knowledgeable than I so I will just download new cwm and reflash beta 5.

Many thanks
5.0.2.6 had intermittent problems installing zip files. that's the fix in 5.0.2.7.

you can open the boot.tar from the odin images and 'poke it' but boot.img will always give corrupt zip errors. they're different animals.

stl12 is system
*13 is data
*14 is cache

don't sweat it. glad it's working. no matter how you got it.

First, let me thank all involved for making this wonderful port of Cyanogenmod. I've installed it and love it. Can't wait to tinker more with it.

Really, a huge thank you.

That said, I have a question that may be obvious, but I'm at a loss. I am a noob, I admit. First phone I've modded.

I've successfully modded my prevail with Hroark's beta of Cyanogenmod and backed it up. I then installed the Opera browser through the market. Then I installed the kernel map fix through clockworkmod. I tried to install the removed apk's and this is where I'm having trouble. When I attempt to install them through CWM the installation aborts without stating an error. If I try to install them manually I always get a not-installed error.

I'm wondering if my installation of Opera and the updated market (play) is throwing everything off or if I'm missing something. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The only way the removed apps can be installed with CWM is with the apkinstaller.zip. I'll post a link below with the app and instructions. Also, if you remove the app .apk file to your desktop then copy it to your sd card. uUe a file explorer that has root permission, go to the sd card, find the file, tap on it and install. Most of the apps will install this way. If you have any questions just post back in here. I'll be around for a little while. Also, if you tell me the apps that you want, I'll can make a CWM flashable zip for you. Lemma know and give me a list of all the apps you want from the removed app zip.

You really need to learn how to do this so I would advise doing it yourself. If you don't feel comfortable lemme know and I'll do it this 1 time. I happen to have a little extra time on my hands right now.:D

Thank you, wetbiker for the reply. I will try this myself. I'm comfortable with it. I've already bricked my phone trying to install the apk's manually and was able to revert to a backup (thank you clockworkmod, so far my favorite new program on my phone). Also, I don't even know what many of these apps are so I was going to tinker with them all to see what I like and don't like.

I will post back tomorrow with results. Thanks again.

In order to use the CM7 themes from the market you will need a combination of files. Keep in mind that our phone is MDPI so those are the type themes you will need. I went ahead and put them together sometime back for others to use. This zip installs in CWM. If you want themes here's what you need.

ThemesInstaller.zip

do you have to be on cm7 for this zip to work?

do you have to be on cm7 for this zip to work?

im pretty sure theme engine is intergrated into the framework of cm7 Rambo..

so you wouldnt be able to successfully use it on anything but cm7...plus side is when cm7 is working on the TU you will be able to theme untill your little heart is content :D

Themes for the t mobile theme engine for cm 7 port are endless on the xda website
Some of the themes have extras that can be built in to the theme apk using a tool called metamorph or zipthemer and then can be flashed
The widgets over there and the icons are endless and some of the designers actually have tools that you can download to install the icons how you want

Thanks hroark for providing the port so that we can do all this :D:D:D

Hmmm
I thought lord vincent cleared that up that we have to be on cm 7
I should've reiterated that
I guess I jumped the gun sorry

Yeah, I just wanted to add that I had tried it on another non CM7 ROM. :D As a matter of fact, I tried it on CTMod the same day that I made my theme installer zip. That has been months ago.;)

wetbiker, I spaced and forgot to come back here the other day. Just wanted to let you know that the apkinstaller worked and thank you for pointing it out to me. Thanks.

Great! Glad that you got it working. There are tons of themes out there so don't ever worry about getting tired of one and not being able to find another. :D
