Root Cyanogenmod/custom ROM issues

Got a second to help thought I let you read this to help you get the idea of what's needed to install a ROM
http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...tory-reset-your-rooted-phone.html#post3263770

hey I was following this, and I was typing this in: su(return)
mount_-o_remount,rw_-t_yaffs2_/system_/system(return)
cat_/sdcard/flash_image_>_/system/bin/flash_image(return)
chmod_755_/system/bin/flash_image(return)
flash_image_recovery_/sdcard/recovery.img(return)
reboot_recovery(return)
and I got to the part that says flash_image(return) but it says no such file detected soooo... idk lol this is too complicated for me...

The problem was you didn't have the flash_image on the root of the sd card or it's still zipped.
I'm back so we can start wherever I think is the best place based on what you tell me.

I need to know if you have the flash_image and recovery, in an unzipped state, on the root of the sd card?
Do you have the ROM and gapps, still in a zipped state, on the root of the sd card?

The root of the sd card means not in any folder, but instead, near the bottom of the list of folders.

How can you tell if it is still unzipped or not? lol

It should have zip or rar on the end if it's zipped.
img or bin if unzipped.
Example:
VM670NH_recovery.zip
VM670NH_recovery.img

Okay, when I downloaded the final edition of the ICS themed cyanogenmod ROM it was a folder? I changed the name to .zip but should I not try using that?

wait, recovery or ROM?

Slow down and relax. When doing stuff like this you have to have patience.
let me download the rom and check it out first.

haha Okay. I will try my best. The thing is, the phone still works, I can still text, call, use internet, but I can't download apps, such as GPS which I really need lol.

Ok, dev didn't post md5 sum but download looked ok. The ROM Is zipped, what about your gapps.

Okay, my gapps I got from the wikipedia page I believe... I'm pretty sure it is zipped as well. It says gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

Umm... It says .zip so I think the Xionia recovery is good (never used it before). I'm not sure what the flash_image is?

The recovery you can unzip and rename recovery.img
It's very important to make sure the flash_image.bin is what you see not flash_image.zip

I also have ROMTools.v231.by.mmmark111v.zip if this helps? I got it from one of your links. Not exactly sure how to open it in the phone though?

And how am I supposed to do this? I can go into file manager on my phone, but I can't exactly unzip the files as far as I know? Also, where would I see the flash_image.bin? What folder?

I have a file called recovery.img, but I have no idea if it is unzipped or not? And I don't see a flash_image.bin file so where can I get one?

The flash_img you need you have to download and unzip. Go to my install instructions I posted. Look real close towards the top.
with your file manager make sure everything is on the root of the sd card.
go to the VM670NH recovery.zip and tap it or long press it. Whichever pops up the option to extract it.
After it's extracted long press or tap it. Whichever pops up an option to rename it.

Do the same thing to unzip the flash_image.

Can you give me a link for that? I went into file manager and pressed the xionia recovery.zip file, but it said application not available.

What file manager are you using?
Everything you need is in the instructions I linked. Remember? Look at all the blue lettered links.

Slow down and ask questions before you do anything. We'll get you through this. You will need the VM670NH_recovery for the ICS ROM.

Okay I will look. I am using file manager its just a yellow folder. Also, I found a flash_image file on the phone but not the sd card? when I press on any of the things it says like complete action using... and lists stuff that doesn't sound right like call details, contacts, edit access point, FDN list, gallery, HTML viewer, messaging, movies, music, package installer, phone, select contacts to import, view contact, and view event. To me, this doesn't seem quite like what I am looking for? lol

Okay, so I can't install zip from sd card like I am supposed to, because it wont let me do that. I go into recovery boot or whatever it's called and I can't select any of the options.
