Root Cyanogenmod/custom ROM issues

Flashing will not reset to defaults, only formatting the data partition will do that. If you only wipe cache and dalvik cache when updating a ROM to a newer build, all settings should be retained. Of course, flashing to a different ROM entails formatting data, so disregard in that instance.

The one step overlooked is in the performance menu, once you are sure you have not overclocked too high (things aren't force closing or freezing), be sure to check the box "Set on boot." Only do this once you are sure you are at a stable overclock setting.

To find a stable overclock setting, start high, say just over 800. Then attempt to open your camera and some other intensive apps. If they freeze or force close, drop your upper clock speed down a notch, and repeat. Once you have no problems opening camera and other intensive apps, drop it down one more setting (to account for background processes). Then check the Set on boot option and enjoy.

I run 748, and everything is smooth and stable, ymmv. ;)

I used gallery to test with. I'm stable at 806. I only noticed last night that my CPU settings had reverted after the update. Is this something you're planning on changing, or should we make a point of resetting our CPU settings? It seems to me it would be better if we did have to go in and reset our CPU stuff. Yes, that's extra work for me, but it gives newer users a failsafe if they set their CPU too high and click the set at boot option. Then to undo, all they would need to do is reflash the Rom.

that sounds like an EXCELLENT idea to me.
setCPU has a text file on the sd card that can be used to disable it if the settings are too high and it crashes on boot, but I don't know of anything similar in the CM settings.
It'd be nice to have an easy reset method if someone selected 'set on boot' and couldn't reboot successfully after that.

Yup. Here's an analogy for you. Think of Mhz as horsepower. A car with a 180 hp engine just can't keep up with a car with a 300 hp engine. Same idea. Sorta.

You have to be careful with the min. as this is where the phone idles. I wouldn't go over 480MHz as it will cause the battery and CPU to run hotter and the battery to drain quicker. I turn all my settings off until I need them. That's sync, data,WiFi,GPS,Bluetooth, turn screen brightness down to just were I can see clearly.
I can go to bed with 100% battery, and wake up with 100% battery.
I get 5-6 hours, solid screen on internet. Better than the laptop I had.
I leave the min set 480MHz.
If I want to play a game I just bump up the max. When I'm done I set it back to my sweet spot of 787MHz.

I'm too lazy to constantly turn things on and off, so I just deal with charging my phone every 16 to 18 hours or so. And, much like Andy, it still kicks the snot out of my laptop, which runs for about fifteen minutes on battery.

My phone is doin great if anyone wanted an update lol it does like to freeze up at the lockscreen but its so awesome I don't care lol :)

I'm sure the lockscreen issue will be fixed in the next update.
You will only have to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache when installing an update.

Wow, this thread was a great read. Lilrob1213, I'm glad you got your phone issue worked out... but this thread was like a book!! It had it's highs, lows, heroic interjections and a great conclusion.
Everyone here in this forum has their strengths and when pulled together things get awesome!! It's been said many times before but I'll say it again... Andy you the man!!
(not to put down the other heroic interjectors ie. superbigsquid, brotherswing and jerry) ;)

All the members that helped me set a fine example that I always try to reflect upon.
Don't sell yourself short either yogi4. You still have a great attitude towards helping others as well.

Glad you can drop in every now and again. Hope you and your family are ok.

PM me if you get a chance. I have some new info and ideas for your tutorial.

So, I have loved this ROM it's been a while since I posted here. BUT unfortunately, I am having some issues right now with my internet. I can't seem to get on the internet either 3G or wifi. It shows the network and connects, but the symbol doesn't turn blue (like normally when it's connected) and same with the 3G symbol. It hasn't done this before, I have rebooted a couple of times already, nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Ok because themes can have an issues and it can help knowing that when trying to trouble shoot. I'm not trying to be rude just giving a heads up.

I wouldn't assume you were being rude, although it would be easy to think so lol no hurt feelings. I kind of created this thread based on my previous issue, so I believe the theme was mentioned at the very beginning and these guys helped me all the way through that, so I kinda figured that they would know already, assuming that nobody else would be replying. Assumptions are bad lol.
