Desire HD Battery Thread

By set up, you mean what?
My phone is pretty stock. Stock clock widget, mp3 widget and I've downloaded a few apps. Battery is crap no matter what, usb debugging on doesn't help either.

Done less than an hour of web browsing and phone been of change since 1AM GMT. Battery is now on 50%.
Waiting for to send this back and then get a replacement and see how that works out. If its still lags when typing something or battery is crap, I will sell it for a Samsung Galaxy S or Nokia N8.

I dont have any widgets running or anything, i use the phone as a phone and when i need mobile internet i use it and then turn it off after, checking facebook/twitter/email etc from the apps and then off after, also wifi is off unless im at home.

Lame, what's the point of having an Android if your not running any widgets or anything, it's worse than iOS.
OK WiFi uses like 2% of your battery which is nothing really.

I personally think the Samsung Galaxy S is the best Android phone but let down by its lag and GPS problems.

I have the phone because I was getting a new contract, just because it CAN sing and dance and make the tea, why should it. It still does all the stuff I want it to and all the apps run too.

im happy with getting 2-4 days usage out of a phone, god knows i had to charge my n97 every day sometimes twice and that wasnt even a decent os on the phone

Honestly right now I'm very unhappy with battery life. I get one day tops.

Yesterday I took some advice from this thread and was able to achieve almost 400m free memory according to es task manager. Today the very same settings are getting me less than 300m and I don't know why.

The only widgets I run are the task manager, twidroid, mini youtube, power amp and Fm radio. If I listen to music for 30 minutes, my battery will last about 14 hours.

I've set the brightness low, don't use auto rotate or live wallpaper and have used setcpu to bring my processor down to 700mhz.

Seems to me like I have to avoid doing tons of stuff I want to do just to have enough battery for a day.

What the Heck am I doing wrong?

My battery is lame in any way. I put loads of widgets on home screens and used a custom nexus live wallpaper. Battery still drops 11% overnight. Nokia N8 it is I guess, Galaxy S has too many problems.

I have had my DHD for just over a month and the battery has never lasted more than 15 hours. I have tried various tips from the forum but have had no luck.

I have a stock phone on Vodafone UK running the latest build.

Uptime Length: (How Long your battery lasted) - From 7.0am - 10:30pm (15.5 hours) < 10% battery left
Accelerator: On
3G Or 2G: Strong 3G at work, 2G at home
Wireless On: Yes at home
GPS On: No
Automatic Brightness: No - Set to around 20%

Misc: I have Gmail on autosync, mail on 30 minute sync 7am-7pm, all others on 12 hour sync.

I play several games for a max of 30 minutes and use the ebook reader for about 30 minutes daily. I also run CardioTrainer which uses the GPS and music for 30 minutes every few days.

I did have live wallpapers, stock ones from HTC, but have just switched to a static wallpaper.

I charge the phone every night and leave it charging until morning. Also I have Airplane Autoswitch running which switches Airplane Mode on from 11pm to 6am.

If anyone has any tips then I would appreciate it as it is a great phone, but I can't use it to its full potential.

Hey guys, ever since I removed the Orange sim card to put in my new Nokia N8, the battery life has improved drasctically.

When I had orange sim in, the phone would always been going from 5 bars GPRS to 2 bars 3G all the time when I was at home and my uni has poor connections on my iPhone O2 as well where the 3G speed goes to non existant, I think this is what caused a lot of a battery drain, poor/mixed signals and the phone doesn't know what to do.

I've got loads of widgets updating constantly, wifi on all the time, custom Nexus Live wallpaper, GPS on all the time, screen brightness at auto, push email from 4 different accounts.

It's been about 24 hours since I charged the phone and since then I've played it on for about 3 hours at which the screen was on including YouTube, 5 mins of Angry Birds(over rated game IMO, sucked on iPhone 4 and sucked on DHD's bigger screen too, Cut The Rope is better, I wish it was on Android though) and web browsing mostly.

That battery is on 75% which is pretty good seeing at this time with the stuff I've got on, the battery would be at 20%.

I read on the Samsung Galaxy S forum that weak signals cause battery life to decrease quicker.
The phone really needs to decide to just stay on GPRS or 3G like my Nokia N8 is doing, staying at 5-7 bars of 3G but internet speed is non existent :/

The Android, not to call this a mass insult, but do you actually READ what you type?.

I apologise if this is full frontal, but when you have to read some of what you type, it really is unreal!

Well a higher capacity battery would give you much more battery life along with cutting down on widgets. HTC should really make a new battery with at least 1400mah capacity and maybe use lithium polymer instead of lithium ion.

Not exactly true as its down to the user and how they use the battery.

Well its obviously not worth upgrading from 1350 to 1400 but it would be from the DHD's 1200 to 1400/1500. Plus an update from HTC would help a lot by turning HTC sense, WiFi, live wallpaper etc of in standby.

I don't know the full the chemistry behind it of the top of my head.

Updates is all well and good, but it doesn't do the job for you.

Uptime means the time since the phones been on?

It definitely doesnt mean the time since the battery was last full. Well at least not on mine.

Correct.

Obiously they will but my DHD drains 2% battery every hour in standby. After 4 hours of web browsing, the phone is below 10%, which is rather lame.

What do you expect the phone to do, run on your piss?

The battery is your opinion, peoples posts on here have shown the battery can hold its own.

So far your posts have been mostly naff

But it doesnt seem that bad. Played around with a demo version. I quite liked the Galaxy S white too so i may get that but they're both

Get over it Spencer, just because you bought a fail phone that was rushed with a crap battery and won't admit it! I know I'm right, I usually am when it comes down to technology. A phone released only 8 months after original is obviously going to be a fail.

Stop being an arrogant fanboy.

Also WTF is an Accelerator(on a phone not a car)??

Hi

Just wanted to say hi. I'm new to the forums. Looking forward to getting to know you all and finding out new things about my DHD.

Hope to speak to you soon.

I really do pity you

just because you bought a fail phone that was rushed with a crap battery

Any proof of this of the battery being poor?..Not really, its your opinion isn't it.

I know I'm right, I usually am when it comes down to technology

Should work in the comedy business

A phone released only 8 months after original is obviously going to be a fail.

Once again, any proof on this?

Stop being an arrogant fanboy.

If I was an fanboy (and thats a term that comes from a 10-18 year old by the way!), I wouldn't have used so many phones in my time.

Also WTF is an Accelerator(on a phone not a car)??

Someone hasn't read the full topic..Aww poor user

here have a lolly, feel better xD

So what did we learn from your reply?

All we learned was that your opinion is instantly right which we all know isn't..

SpencerUk +100 Internets

THE ANDROID, My battery lasts me 2 days, That's with playing music, a few games, web browsing, texts and a few calls, u jelly.

And 3+ days if you use it as phone (=few phonecalls up to 20 min max, receiving SMS & mail & twitter & facebook notifications, few market updates, nothing else). Right now i'm at 1d 12h with 46% battery left, and in charge before that it was even better.

Of course i have my phone for over a month and half now, so my battery works fine now.

Any proof of this of the battery being poor?..Not really, its your opinion isn't it.

No but my DHD battery is crap, my friends battery is crap and major sites like Engadget have said the battery is crap.

So your opinion is worthless when major sites like Engadget agree with me. :)

i would much rather believe review sites than non respected new members like you on a site, if you were on this site since the beginning and maybe had a rep, I would have believed you but since you don't, your opinions are worthless and fanboyish.

Explain what the Accelerator is in the Desire HD?

No but my DHD battery is crap, my friends battery is crap and major sites like Engadget have said the battery is crap.

Engadget and other reviewers had Desire HD for how long ? 2-3 days ? The battery is "formed" after 10-15 days. Then you can talk about battery life.

Yes, with active use the battery crap. But unless you are working with the phone all the time while you should work, then the phone will happily last 2 days without any problems, even with some gaming and browsing.

Of course if you don't have USB debugging enabled (INIT bug) or calendar bug makes your CPU run at 100% all the time, then of course your battery doesn't last even a while.

My current record with Desire HD is 4 days without recharging (of course that was a total minimal use, just 2-3 calls and notifications, so display used nearly zero power). Maybe Desire HD doesn't fit your usage patterns, but for most of us, battery life is OK.

Had my phone since friday and this is my specs for my battery today:

Uptime Length: 17.5 Hours (5.00am-10.30pm) with 13% Battery left!
Accellerator: On
3G Or 2G: 2G (20 minutes of 3G on)
Wireless On: On
GPS On: Off
Automatic Brightness: Off

Misc: Played Angry Birds and had ebuddy running in the background for a few hours, sent alot of texts aswell and browsing the internet when i was out with 3G on!

Overall I am happy with that as I am now going to bed to get up at 5am again for work and still 13% battery left, so now going on charge! :)

You have proved everyones points with the last statement

So let me get this straight. Because Engadget says the battery is poor, your instantly right?

That is the most DELUDED logic ever!.

No opinion is "worthless".

But just curious here..If Engadget said if you jump out of a plane at 40,000 feet in the air with no breathing apparatus naked and you will survive..do you believe them thats right and its true?

Because thats what in essence you are saying..Whatever Enagdget says goes lol.

Thats not bad considering.

Is wireless kept on all the time?.

On a side note, amended the template slightly to include network operator and accelerometer amendment so that way "The Android" doesn't have to be confused.

I thought it was accelerometer, your fault for being DUMB.

Who the F**K calls it accelerator? LMAO.
Hardware acceleration and accelerometer are two totally different things.

Also I've never seen as many battery threads or as many people complaining on any Android phone so yeh Engadget is right about the battery.

Was kinda obvious what he meant by accelerator in the first place, Would be more dumb to not notice that it was a mistake.

Again, Nowt wrong with my battery, Easily lasts me 2 days.

Yep my bat lasts me 2-3 days too listened to 4 hours worth of mp3's today while working and still got 65% bat left, used twitter/facebook etc etc.

As I have stated before, If I don't have my DHD telling me I have tweets/fb stuff/mails/the weather has changed/the world is on fire etc etc. If I want an updated I turn on mobile data and sync all, leave it for a few mins then switch it off when im done.

Unlike SOME users of this forum I WORK for a living and I don't need constant interaction with my phone to make the world go around.

Going to plug it in the computer now so ill post what I have now!

Uptime Length: 13 Hours (5am-6pm) with 11% left
Accelerometer: On
3G Or 2G: 3G and 2G (forgot to turn 3G off after my break at 12pm)
Wireless On: On
GPS On: Off
Automatic Brightness: Off
Network: Orange

Misc: Not much work to do today in work so was on my phone more than yesterday! Sent a few texts, played angry birds and took quite a few photographs (some with flash)

I normally forget about the wireless because it doesnt show up when am not connect so forget that its on, thats why I leave it on!

Look at that little rant go haha

I managed to get almost 2 days on average its all good

Uptime Length: 1 day 22 hours (20% left)
Accelerometer: Off
3G Or 2G: 3G
Wireless On: On - When Required
Mobile Internet - When Required
GPS On: Off
Automatic Brightness: Off
Network: Orange with T-Mobile roaming

Misc Settings: Live wallpaper enabled, Only widget in use is Friend Stream, Don't play games, Played 30 mins of music with Dolby.

Sync Settings;

Facebook For HTC Sense: Every 4 Hours
Flickr: Once A Day
HTC Sense: On Push
News: Manual
Stocks: Every 4 Hours
Twitter For Sense: Manual
Weather: Every 3 Hours

Turn Power Saver On At 10%..All Power Saver settings enabled, Brightness to 40%

Some findings i've seen so far

* Depending On Reception (db gain boosting, etc), battery drains
* Mobile Internet appears to be a demanding thing
* Turning wireless off when not needed does obviously give a tad more on battery, but not by much

If anyone else has any findings, please share :)

I thought it was accelerometer, your fault for being DUMB.

when the fact that the majority of people understood, and then you failed to read throught he topic kinda was epic fail on your part haha.

I could say the same with the Nokia Sirocco with battery, I could say the same with Samsung and GPS issues.

Every phone has issues. You have to understand the boundaries..Personally, I don't think the battery is an issue, the majority who use the phone for what they want have accepted what it gets.

Technology evolves..the battery doesn't.

on another key note, would you like to take part in jumping off a plane and seeing if you survive..I'll jump out with all the relevant safety kid and then record it in HD on my Desire HD?..After all Engadget is right eh ;)

The battery does evolve, MacBooks Pro got 7+ hours of battery life whilst other laptops were still struggling to get 2-3 hours and my MBP has lasted 9hours and 56mins of usage on one battery charge.

Same goes for the iPhone 4's lithium polymer battery.

You do realize that HTC could have fitted in a bigger battery in there and an AMOLED screen if they didn't release it 8 months after the Desire launch. 4-5 months could have gotten them the AMOLED screen and redesign of the internals allowing a bigger battery.

A battery hog screen like on the DHD needed to be at least AMOLED.
