Root Desire Root Guide For Newbies

the download link for test ruu seems to be dead? is there an alternative?

found some on google but want a recommended link if poss:-/
 
Hi, I am very very new in Android Land. At this time I am using a symbian system. But in 2 weeks my HTC Desire HTC will be delivered.

The question is: How to root the HTC Desire HD ? Will the guide for the Desire on Dorid Den be suffcient? Or ...another guide for this HD model necessary?
 
Ive only had my desire for a short time but will get round to rooting it. Could I brick my phone if Im not careful? If this does happen, can I fix it? I jst want to know all the ins and outs first guys. Thanks, any helpful replied will be very much appreciated. Thanks

This is the best way to root. Lekky has not updated in a while. These guides.work well, but its less.and less likely you will meet the requirements. As I understand it unrevoked I linked will root any.desire. look around xda for roms and other cool stuff.

Note that desire is different to desire HS, desire z, nexus1 and anything else based on the same platform. They all have different ways.of rooting and using the wrong one can brick your phone. The right ones will work. I have not heard of a bricked desire while I.was.looking for how to root or after. Most of this stuff is as safe as possible but there is always a small risk. Most thinks that can go wrong can be fixed. If something is not right try not to turn it off or unplug from pc until you find the.answer to be safe. I had lots of problem rooting, and after I.flasheda bad Rom I needed to redo it and with 3.21 it was super smooth even though I was starting from an unstable phone.
 
Most problems posted by people in the xda thread above seem to be caused by one thing: Not reading the full instructions! Yes, problems can occur, but in 99% of cases they are solved by doing something that's already been explained in an earlier post.

I haven't rooted yet. I'm happy with with the ROM I have for now, but I would love to use a2SD and free up my phone storage. Reading and understanding the various options and guide has given me enough understanding that even the geeky tech threads are actually starting to make sense! ;)

I think I'm about 90% happy about rooting my phone, still got some reading to do....
 
The more you read the more likely you are to find solutions to the problems you may have. XDA is not always happy to help if the answer is out there fairly obviously.
 
I have a question and i am new to all the root process but i have a CDMA HTC Desire with a 0.98 bootloader all i see is like .75 and below on the root process. Can anyone fill me in on that version and if it can be rooted.
 
Hi i have a htc desire on orange and the bootloader is 0.93.can someone please tell me if this can be rooted by a first timer like myself.Any help would be much appreciated.thanks.

One of the guides is for 0.80 and above BUT that guide may not work because your phone is very new rocking 2.2 (lucky you) and possibly untested for 0.93. So I'd hold off, unless told otherwise :).

I've installed the Hboot USB driver properly (it appears in Device Manager) and have tried both unrEVOked 3.14 and 3.22, but all that happens is I get stuck with the program's splash screen.

I have never installed HTC Sync, and have been using a 16-gb micro SD in place of the stock mem card since Day 1. I have never updated my phone's system OTA either. Is my phone unrootable as of now, or am I perhaps doing something wrong? Would it be advisable to downgrade from Android 2.2 to 2.1 instead so I could root immediately? I don't wanna get stuck with a stock HTC for a few more months.

Read the rooting faq which is either in my Sig or in the sticky thread.

It links to a guise for using unrevoked and also explains what to do if you have a pvt 4 device, which you have
 
"bootloader version of 0.83 or below" ?
Both the forum thread and your webpage says the same.

I'm guessing it should be 0.83 or higher?
