Root DETAILED Leak Root Tutorial

After two days I finally got my phone rooted! And got so excited about it that I rooted my husbands Droid too! Now I want to root every phone I see!! Am running Evil Eris. But that may be changing soon! :D

Rooted this morning. Took the OTA the other day, no problems whatsoever. Thanks to everyone that made this process super easy.

I didn't have to flash the OC Kernal because the ROM I flashed already had it, but I believe rebooting your phone should help.

Does the KaosFroyo rom already have the OC kernal? Also, maybe I missed something, but what happened to the ridiculous pull the SD card, count to 4, stand on your head, sacrifice a live chicken, and then insert your SD card method?

Haha wag3salv3 aka A FREAKIN GENIUS found an incredibly easy method :D And yes KaosFroyo ROM already has the latest OC kernal. I tried the cyanogenmod 6 ROM yesterday and it seems a tad bit faster and also has the latest OC kernal

Well, put me down in the "I love that freakin guy" column. I was going to attempt the older root method a week or so ago, and when I watched the video on the counting method I laughed and closed the video, and I work in IT. When I saw this method today I used the MAC instructions and had my phone rooted in under ten minutes.

So far my phone is still syncing, so it seems like it's using a good bit of the CPU to do it. I'm hoping to see a good difference in speed when it's finished.

I am on windows XP and cannot get the shift+right click to bring up any option for command prompt What am I doing wrong?

Another way to do this is to click start, run, type "cmd" and it will open upa command prompt. From there type cd C:/android-sdk-windows/tools

You will see a huge difference :D and the mac root method is about as easy as it gets :D

need some more help guys, sorry. I opened up command with cmd. Tried typing in exactly as you stated Surgeon but I keep getting "The system cannot find the path specified".

Where ever you have your SDK installed, that is the path you need to use to cd.
Use cd and then the path to your tools folder.

Should be blackslashes "\" not foreslashes "/".

cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools

so now I have the directory up in command and am at the part where the instructions tell me to type adb shell. I do this and I just get "error: device not found"

Yep. Time to add that into the instruction as well. That's how I had to do it and apparently most others are getting the same issue.

I didn't have XP to try that cntrl plus right click. I was hoping that everyone would benefit from the shortcut way that v941726 taught us.
