Did Everyone Get The Recent Software Update?

Why wait? It takes like 45 seconds

to be honest, i have juice defender setup with different configurations for different time of day and how much data is enabled during a period of time and such. i want to see if the OTA will get through with my current j/d settings.

since there are still people out there not getting it yet, i'll wait a bit longer. i have the file downloaded just in case.

Since many of us have DL'd the update already and have had good luck with it, do you have any corroborating evidence of what your Sprint store told you? You could be initiating panic attacks over nothing.

What's being reported is that the update was pulled temporarily over server issues.

I haven't been a Sprint customer for long, but I've learned never to trust Sprint employees' explanations of Sprint's reasons for doing anything. That's coming from someone who has a friend who works for Sprint.

That's very old news. The update originally was supposed to start Thursday 9/30, but at the end of that business day Sprint announced that its start had been delayed due to "adminstrative" issues with Google or its servers, where the push is staged. The rollout did start midday the next day, and has been proceeding since then.

gf got hers during the Giants/Bears game but her battery was low and it wouldn't let her install until she was plugged into charger. i just got mine 15 min ago. Suffolk/Norfolk VA.

The Sprint service guy just said not to expect to see the Sept 30th update any time soon because it was deemed by Google as being defective in some way and its been pulled off the shelf indefinitely until fixes are made and he would not recommend downloading it off of any site right now because it could damage the phone.

Sprint people here had no idea about any problems regarding the update and it's still being pushed .

edit: my friend in FL got his update tonight so it's still being pushed.

Just a heads up. I did the maual up date and had nothing but problems with it. Ill say just relax and wait for the OTA update. BTW I ended up taking the phone back to best buy for a new one.

I'd imagine everyone who owns an Epic and is aware of the GPS/3G issues had been following the above news story from inception. What I'm attempting to point out is how ordinary events are spun fancifully by Sprint employees (who are usually trying to make sense of things for the customer but don't know what's going on themselves) and then rumors based on disinformation get spread here and absorbed by people awaiting news in various states of frustration.

Delays in the rollout yield complaints. AndroidXTC wants the update. The Sprint rep attempts to turn AX's frustration into relief through the use of fear. The warning about the upgrade "ruining your phone" is then repeated to people who already received the upgrade, perhaps instilling panic.

I'll believe that idea when I hear it from someone other than some guy from Sprint via one of my colleagues on this board.

Okay, now I understand. You and I are on the same page. And I certainly share your distrust for whatever some Sprint rep might have said.

There is no actual evidence that the firmware rollout, once started, ever was suspended. And many users have reported receiving it after AndroidXTC's post. Such deployments obviously take time, even though many users new to the platform don't understand that. The original Sprint announcement said it "will be rolled out to users over several days."

i was worried when i read the posting about sprint pulling the update due to bugs. but i just received the OTA a few minutes ago, while i was on the toilet, thank goodness it took only a couple minutes. :p

i guess that rumor was wrong. good news, because now i'm confident that my new juice defender settings are not preventing OTA updates. i also noticed that after the update auto-reboot, the sprint hotspot is no longer showing up under running services. the drm one is though, and i'm still getting TWS at 50%.

no biggie, as long as the 3G upload cap is removed and looks like it has with this update.

btw, i'm in one of the mid-atlantic states.

I'll test mine later today as I am returning my initial Epic because my phone gives errors everytime I check the profile, prl, and firmware. We think there is a problem with the radio. I did however get the DI17 so that may have screwed it up somehow. Anyway we'll see with the new one. If the new one has issues, i'll test out an EVO.
