'Dillo Hills [Development]

Game is bought and looking good :)

I've had two crashes so far on my Samsung Galaxy S, though, stock firmware. Don't know if it's a coincidence yet, but the crashes have been on medium and high quality, while I was able to play through on low. Anything I can do to help debugging?

Do I hear some support for us fans out there in Australia?? Looks like an awesome game! I ve been following some posts the last week, the crying, begging, the "hurry up", the praise etc and all i can say is cuddos to fex. Looks like alot of hard and long sleepless nites have and will continue to pay off.

Just two questions.. any idea if your app will eventually run on the HTC Legend (vodafone aus version)? Be great to see that. I work at a phone store and we literally sign up about 2-3 people a day on Legends and 3 on Desire HD's.

And what's the deal with Adobe Air? Like which version or link could you provide us with that will let all 2.2 Android fans out there, be able to play your lil epic game?

Cheers in Advance, Mr Legend...dary :)

Hi fex,

Just downloaded your game and played a little. I'm using the Desire HD and so far none of the problems people here are reporting. Plays good even on high. Not perfect 60 fps but payable.

I've read that your Target is to continue to optimize and make it playable on most devices but if I'm being a little honest that might be a losing battle. Using Adobe Air is the cause of all these problems. Performance takes a huge hit because of it. I would recommend you develop the app natively. This would make it compatible with far more devices, and at the same time imcrease performance ten fold. Just reading through comments in the market makes it quite obvious.

Anyway that was just my 2 cents. Great work for a first release.

What bugs me the most is that when you play, press pause and turn off the screen, the game closes. You lose all your progress and have to start over.

Also having problems running on high on my HTC DHD.

Hey Fex,

I can't wait to play the game, but it seems my HTC Legend isn't compatible :(
I do have Android 2.2, so do you think this can still be fixed?
Could you maybe message me when it's fixed? Because I won't be able to check throughout the day!

Thanks in advance.

to bad, i really wanted to buy the game, but the problem is that the android market accept only credit carts, and in the netherland most of the people dont have any credit cart :(

I've just downloaded from the market and it seems perfect. But when you play more times you realized realized that it has some problems, suddenly the game have stops and you can't do anything. It's running in my galaxy s with android 2.3. I hope these bugs will be repared soon. Thanks for all fex.

I've been following this for a couple of weeks and i'm pleased for all the happy customers who are enjoying this game.

The game however is unplayable on my HTC Desire, even on the Low graphics settings. It is choppy and unresponsive.

I will keep it installed and check back on it as and when it gets updated.

You have created a good game though, just a shame that my phone is getting on a bit.

Has anyone played this on a tablet yet? My son is trying to download it on his Archos 70 but neither Dillo Hills or Adobe Air is showing up. They show on my HTC Desire but I have just been battling with it to clear some memory so can't really afford to give away over 10Mb to have this game. Besides which, I'd never get my phone back!

Any ideas on why it's not showing on the Market. I had to sideload the Market apk on to his Archos and did the "Market Fix" but it's not showing Dillo Hills? We are in the UK.

Runs pretty choppy\laggy on my epic with high graphics. That's kinda disappointing. I guess adobe air is to blame for that :(

Medium setting are fine though. SO far I like it :) Gliding is great :) Made it to island 4 on first try. I'm getting the hang of it!

Great game, I love it! :)

but there are 2 things that would come very handy and if you can make it, that would be great :)

1. Battery drain (I guess its because its based in adobe air), from my galaxy s, it takes 4% of battery every game.

2. You really really need to put pause button in the game, because its kind of annoying to score around 150k and then get a text that takes you out of the game and you have to start over :D

Well just take time and try to improve it :)

oh and its really impressive that you have made such a good game in such short time!

keep up the good work!

Just made a clip of how it runs on a SGS with medium graphics settings:

Having a really good time with the game, however, I repeat my critic I wrote earlier.
1. The game should have unlockables of some kind. Funny costumes, more characters...
2. A story mode would make it more interesting. The characters could have different stories, and really silly ones would be nice.
3. Intro and cut-scenes?
4. The hills have rough edges, would like to see them more... Rounded. :)

Also, the difficulty increases strangely. At Zone 3, it's near impossible to "die", but at Zone 4, you "die" very easily.

But these are trifles, the game is great and with a constant flow of updates, it will be one of the most addictive ones out there!

'Ello! I'm an iPhone user myself, but I've seen the game played and played it on a friend's phone, and thought I'd leave a little feedback. (note: a lot of this has been said already, I just figured I'd be thorough anyhow.

OVERALL: 4/5 right now, 5/5 for what I know/expect it will end up being. I think this game beats the hell out of Tiny Wings -- it takes the bare-bones, core gameplay of Tiny Wings, adds to it and expounds on it. The concept is great, and what you've got so far is great. Once you polish it up and add a lot of the stuff that I know you intend to add, it's going to be a phenomenal game.

::A FEW SPECIFICS::

PERFORMANCE: I've noticed that the vast majority of negative feedback so far has been with regards to performance/framerate/etc. On my friend's HTC Inspire, it runs like a dream on High settings. For some (*cough* Illiger *cough*), it would be enough for the software to run on the highest-end hardware, with no concern for people (like me) with older phones (e.g. -- Tiny Wings barely runs on my iPhone 3). Fex, on the other hand, is doing his best to make this backwards-compatible to older devices. Good on him for that; however, I'd like to just say that I think it's about finding the right balance between performance and gameplay. Fact of the matter is that, at some point, folks with older phones are just gonna' have to accept that a game designed for new phones isn't going to run well. You can only sacrifice so much game quality for game performance, before it just becomes counter-productive. Of course, there are things that can be done to improve the game on older phones, and I trust Fex is doing his best.

GRAPHICS: A few things. First, I'd like to see the hills be a little more rounded and less jagged. However, I realize the reason they're jagged is to make it run smoother. Second, I'd also like to see a more obvious graphic for the multiplier. Tiny Wings has "fever mode," and while I realize the multiplier system works a little different in Dillo Hills, as it is now I have a hard time telling what multiplier I'm at/etc. Maybe make the multiplier star in the bottom left pulse or flash or something? Also, some sort of introductory cinema would be nice. Sort of like the first time you play Angry Birds or Tiny Wings.

META-GAMING: You need some. I know you're working on this. A few suggestions: achievements, unlockable characters, level-up systems, unlockable songs. Stuff like that. All that good stuff that keeps us coming back for more. One thing though: in Tiny Wings, you really can't set a respectable high score until you get to the max level. I don't like that. I would like things that are unlocked to be "just for fun" type stuff, instead of necessary things.

GAMEPLAY: I need a pause menu. Especially for when I get a text or something like that. Losing my progress would be frustrating, and would end up making me hate all my friends for texting me while I play. :P I also wouldn't mind an "Adventure" mode, with all of the birds and clouds and mushrooms and stuff -- then a separate "Arcade" mode, with just the bare-bones gameplay. Maybe somewhere down the road? Also, I've seen a few complaints about the physics (going up/down too slowly, etc.), and I'd just like to say that I think the physics are spot-on. It takes a few play-throughs of getting-used-to, as a Tiny Wings player, but now that I'm used to it it feels great.

OTHER: Change the name in the market to "Dillo Hills" (without the apostrophe). I bet you'll get twice as many hits. :P Also, if at all possible, adding Openfeint scoreboards would be great. And I'd love to be able to listen to my own music while playing. This game deserves Iron & Wine in the background. <3

That's about all I have to say. Overall, I'm in love with it. Think given a few more updates and a little professional polish, this game is gonna really soar (no pun intended).

Oh, last but not least. When do I get to play this on my iPhone? ;]

Cheers

My thoughts, on more lines. ;)
Iron & Wine would be great. Or Backworld.
