Root Dirrk's D01 overclocking kernels with lagfix

Nice thanks! You know how big I am on battery life... When you were stress testing where you on performance as well?
Yes, I wanted to see if this thing would crack because the D01 wasn't even 1200 it was stuck at 800 and then the D011 wasnt stable. So by locking it at 1200 it had no chance to breathe. Quadrant after Quadrant, Linpack after Linpack, Speed Pi over and over and over again, SetCPU's own stress test for several minutes. It never cracked. No battery pulls so far, no locks, no nothing. Thats why I've been so vocal about trumpeting its greatness. jt's cracked under enough stressing [no disrespect]. Dirrk's 1200LV is the best kernel of the kernel's I've tried in the past week. And that's trying 3-4 pre voodoo, plain voodoo and 5 voodoo OC.

wow, I want this...mine is now coming on thursday cause yesterday was Columbus day, so it got shipped today:D
D13 I had a question about replacing the bootani. I know you mentioned data/local. I didnt see data/local on the phone itself only the sdcard. Can I not just replace the one in system/media? Or can I not just paste it into the rar and flash the way jt embedded it? Im just looking for whats easiest.
TIA:)

do you have root explorer?

do you have root explorer?

yeah if you have root explorer thats they way I always do it. I just rename the current one to .bak and drop the new one in. I find that easier, but a lot of people seem to prefer the other way.

Is there a stock bootanimation.zip? If there is I can't find it...

Yeah the stock one is in system/media. Sounds like we need Root Explorer to switch it out since it goes in Data/Local which is not accessible with Astro [free] which is all I got for now

FWIW, those numbers specifically seem a tad low. Now who cares right? Well if you do and by all means you dont have to if you phone is now snappier and with better battery life win win. But just for bragging sake, most benchmarks will score slightly higher when you set the SetCPU to performance and run the benchmark a few times especially LinPack and Speed Pi. Now how much a big deal is it, not much. In LinPack I peak out between 9.7-9.8 on Conservative and 9.8-9.9 on performance. Also my first LinPack run is usually between 9.5-9.7 but climbs a bit with subsequent tests. So I guess Im saying 9.0-9.1 seems a tad low even if it was your 1 and only 1st run thru. Same with Speed Pi. Run that sucker 10 times at least you really should be much closer to 500ms
I mean Im probably splitting hairs. End of the day what does it matter right?
The kernel is so stable and battery life seems stellar. I pulled off charger at 730am and now its 900am and Im at 98% and thats with 6 texts sent and received and 2 emails sent and received. A bit of Speed Pi and Linpack just so I confirmed again what I told you above. I mean we cannot judge another on 1.5hours Im sure this thing is not going to average battery life, that would be silly 32% per 24 hours. Im sure with heavier usage it drops but still Im impressed so far.

Well today my battery life was terrible - as I am on the forums here I am watching it drop. But I will try it for a couple more days yet and see. I have SetCPU at conservative - thanks for the tip I will try setting it at performance and run the numbers again ....... after I charge it for awhile :-(

Sorry to hear that. Is it worse than the stock kernel? How has your stability been? I almost feel like I have to defend this kernel now that I've taken such lengths to promote it

Stability has been good, I've only had a few freezes but nothing worse than the stock. It seems faster than the stock, but I have some doubts that it's actually running a 1200. How can you really tell? I'm hoping the battery life gets better - I'm happy with the speed just want my battery to make it thru a day at work.
It's hard to tell if the battery life is worse than the stock kernel at this point. It did seem to be going down rather rapidly this morning, and then I listened to Pandora this afternoon, which I usually don't do. That completely killed the battery in a couple hours. I will try it without Pandora and see how it compares.

I set the SetCPU to "performance" and my numbers got even worse - I don't get it. Saps, how was your battery life during the course of the day? Any better luck than me?

Yeah you kinda need a level playing field to judge normal. Couple extra hours of Pandora might be the difference. As for when its at 1200; it ramps up based on usage need so if you are just typing it wont be at 1200. But in games, opening apps or when scrolling, etc. it fires up. Kinda varies, somehow it knows when its needed

Yeah unfortuneately it does seem not everyone's SF can handle the low voltage kernels. Mine can and does but not all do. itsTee posted a terrific Quadrant off the SV and I've long suspected the SV will actually bench higher than the LV due to the extra power.

Honestly, its been super fantastic. I'm 12 hours off the charger and Im at 76%. I kinda feel :o that Im doing so so well on it and not everyone is.

Good for you! I'm thinking of trying the 1100 LV to see if that makes a difference. Honestly, I'd rather have battery life over performance at this point....... at least until Froyo gets here :D

to be honest im not sure if my fascinate can handle overclocking =/ mines is freezing like crazy and i tried different kernals

The 1100LV was the one I was impressed with least. It was basically the 1000LV. It didnt bench like 1100 should have benched. For supreme battery life I'd go straight to Dirrks 1000LV, since you cannot run his 1200LV

Just flashed Dirrk's 1.2LV... getting lower quads than voodoo 0.2 =(

1434
1457

Perfermance set on SetCPU too... noooooooooooooooooooooooooooz

Voodoo0.2 only:
1756
1777

Edit: Oops!
-Set my speed to 1200 ---- duhhh
Results:
1880
1801

Still can't break 2000 though WHYYYZZZZZ

You know what that thanks is for too ;)
In fact Im going to find some of your old posts and give you extra thanks :p.
Hmmm 1880 is decent. I've found the LV is finicky. I'll test at 2004 then 1862 then 1931 then 1801 then 2012 then 1897. So there is a range, probably even greater than your 1801-1880. Now equally true it might be that you would do better with the SV kernel. Only one way to know for sure.
The other two things to keep in mind is a] how important is Quadrant, not very b] how does the kernel perform in everything else including the real important stuff.
I'll be the first to admit jt's 1200 is my highest overall benching kernel. I hit practically 9.91 on Linpack versus 9.88 with Dirrks. Speed Pi I hit 458 with jt versus 486 with Dirrk. Although that was really one time phenomenom and never was under 480 again with jt. Benchmark Pi Im 2110 with each. SetCPU shortbench is 160 vs 161 so basically its a wash or ever so slight advantage to jt. But jts always locks up on me when I go up the stairs in Quadrant. So I what its the better kernel right? wrong. I had 2-3 freezes [not in Quadrant just doing stuff] which required battery pulls on jt's 1.2. I've had no battery pulls or freezes with Dirrk's 1.2. Now I seem rock solid with LV but if you need SV so be it. Bottom Line test all three 1.2Ghz kernels and find the one that suits your overall needs best. For me the LV and its massive battery life is the one. I can live with Linpack 9.88 versus 9.91

So I'm not sleeping yet.... and here is why:

Results for the kernels I'm interested in (BTW, I'm a battery/power savy person, hence the LV kernels).
All tests were done in performance setting in SetCPU with max hz at 1000, 1100, and 1200 respectively.

From my results, I'm going to stick with the 1100LV. It seems to be the best bargain for performance and battery setting. That 1225 mv usage is nice too. I'm just going to monitor its stability and report back here. Hope these results were helpful.

Please note:
-YMMV because of different phones/settings
-These results appear contradictory to saps earlier results. I think thats because Dirrk posted an update to his 1100LV kernel. [KERNEL] Dirrk v01 Voodoo lagfix OC/UV

And finally, good night.

Yeah you said you were going to sleep. Wait a second its 3am why I am still up...oh yeah Im on that site DLing stuff. ;) Grabbed about 10 :D
Anyway you are very correct. The 1100LV I tested was D01. I see there is a D011 which Im sure is the one you used and yes your numbers give with what we would expect from a 1100. This really changes everything since the 1000 and 1100 both run off 1225mV there is no reason to use the 1000. I realize this might be contradictory to what I said earlier but again we are getting and gaining info everyday [hour]. So things are fluid and dynamic. xda also seems to like the D011 1100lv. I might try it for giggles but in my case the 1200lv is stable.
Great post!:D

i was having issues with facebook app using the lv1200. everytime i clicked on newsfeed and started to scroll the screen would freeze and take me back to the previous page or close the app. had to go with the SV1200. very stable for me.

i also have this issue in facebook as well as the market. I am trying the LV1100 to see if the issue still occurs
