Root DO NOT use CLOCKWORK MOD or ROM MANAGER!

I have put RM and CWM recovery on my phone and it works great. I followed the directions and it works fine. Last night I did find that I couldn't get USB storage while in the recovery, but playfulgod has fixed that (I haven't had a chance yet to flash the fix, but plan to either this evening or tomorrow).

Fair enough, and neither can I, although I consider it unwise to retire a thread that is actually useful. While many of us experienced users may groan when a noob asks the same question that 100 noobs before him have asked, empathy and memory are always useful in such instances, reminding us that we, too, were once noobs, whether wise or not.

Just the same, since you're the one who insists this works on our phones, are you willing to continue to assist the "Android What" fellow, who apparently tried to follow your instructions, but also apparently near-bricked his phone? No one can require you to of course, but isn't it a bit unkind to leave him in the dust after leading him in this direction?

I do believe I have offered up help to that person, and others. The reason I say this thread needs retired because its false and misleading. Yes it may been true before, sorta, but that was because ppl were flashing the wrong recovery for this phone, not rom managers fault, not CWM's fault, but the user(s) flashing the wrong stuff. No offense to anyone that did do it, but lets put the blame where it goes and not blame the apps etc.

And yes I too was once a n00b and I still learn new stuff everyday lol. I offer up help here and on other sites as well as my own and always adding to my wiki.

There is a list of apps (bloatware, the incessantly heinous boingo, etc) that are safe to uninstall, started by edodonnell; when I first googled 'how to root my optimus m', I was directed here first, if I remember correctly - if there is a way to set up the traffic for those who google 'how to root' to take them to a 'special thread' of a combined joneidy's 'flash recovery' edodonnell's 'list of apps safe to remove' and nomorefear's 'n00b proof guide', that would be really useful; my thought related to that amalgamate list and this thread is to add this to those three other links.

a list of apps that are forbidden or brickly to an optimus m.
list of apps safe to remove
then
list of apps that will brick your phone

an all in one beginners guide - the first thing a new rooter will see.

also, what is the list of bad-apps for optimus m?

PG: gotcha. Since this thread is sticky and has a history though, I'm of the opinion that if a verified procedure can be posted to use the apps of topic here, that it would be better to edit the existing thread than create an entirely new one. OP can always change things up and/or request to mods to get the title changed.

sandpiper: thing is, the threads necessary to read are already stickied in the thread list for the sub forum, and it's not difficult to find them. what you're asking is for mods to restructure threads in such a way that would mix up all the information within them--each thread, from nomorefear's noob helper thread, to joneidy's recovery thread, and so on, has a history of not just the first post updated over time, but all the replies, questions, clarifications, etc that need to remain as they are.

I can agree a new Topic Title will work as like you there is more info in here than just not to use RM, CWM. But from the get go someone should have seeked out someone to port CWM to the OM/C instead of trying to blame the app and recovery.

I learned how to port CWM when the Ascend 2 came out. Its not all that hard really, and I dont even have a working Ascend 2 lol.

I didn't know that it would cause problems. It seems to me that there should just be some simple way to do that. If there isn't, it would be nice.
I'm thinking of the heartbreak of the bricked-phone victims first and foremost.

I posted a direct link to it in my reply to your other post. ;)

Hey PG, can you please post the link for me, I can't find it. Also do you know if the right CMW for the Optimus Prime M is listed using Rom Manager, or is this a manual process? Anyway I'm sure I'll find out from your link. Thanks

CWM for the Optimus and M isnt available in ROM Manager just yet. Asked koush about it today and he said he would try it again soon. ;)

PG, have you heard from koush about any time frame for your Optimus M recovery to be placed into ROM Manager as an official recovery yet?

Thanks in advance, and I, for one, appreciate all of your efforts on our behalf.

I restrain myself and follow rule #1 and dont ask lol, but last time I spoke with him he said he was gonna try to soon. And sum1 else gave him a break down of all the Optimus's out lol

I don't know much about devoloping. But would it be easier to make a app that puts the flash_image and recovery.img on root of SD card then does the command lines for u then flashes it?
