Doctor Who

My wife just got these from my sister in law for Christmas...

Loved the 50th anniversary special! I've seen a total of maybe 10 episodes altogether and I loved everyone one.

Like the Dr before matt Smith a lot. Saw his last episode when he turned into Smith, then saw him in the special.

Great tv

Though I thoroughly enjoyed Tennant, I will always remember my first Doctor, Eccelston.

When I saw the "... And now for my next trick..." cameo in the DOTD, I must say I was quite thrilled to see him in that role 1 more time.

Mine is the Family of Blood.

It was good up until the end and then the end knocked me out - I subconsciously thought all through that he must have been hiding out of some fear.

Spoiler
It was like being smacked when it turned out that he was hiding his rage.

And in the final seconds of seeing what happens when a Time Lord rages made my blood run cold.

Eccleston was my 1st doctor, but i prefer Tennant, oddly

:ditto:

Curious....What's your favorite more-serious episode?

Anything with the Weeping Angels is good but I'd probably go for the episode "Midnight". It's one of the darker Tennant episodes and plays on how easy it can be for people to conform with others. It's also not often that you get to see the doctor showing fear so it was good to see a more human side to him.

Vincent and the Doctor.

Don't really want to go into details, but it made a very deep personal connection through some of the writing, and although it is a different scenario it still hits home and lifts the spirit.

Actually I've been struck before now by the fact that some of my favourite episodes have been those where one or both of the main characters was being given a break from the filming. "Blink", "Midnight" and "Turn Left" all come to mind. I think it's because these have tended to be smaller-scale, more human dramas, with more focus on the characters, rather than big canvas threats to the entire world.

So if I'm going to avoid repeating some of the earlier nominations (because I could well have named any of those!), I guess I'll add "Turn Left" to the pile. You wouldn't want a story that bleak every week (and a story that includes the British government adopting a "final solution and the companion realising she has to die is pretty bleak for family viewing), but then the beauty of the format is that you can do very different types of story on different weeks.

Bowties are cool :)

Yes, yes they are :D

Agreed, but there has to be some goofing. It wouldn't be DW without it :)

There is one thing I don't like about Matt Smith: even in the situations that are very dangerous, he seems not so serious. He hasn't shown fear as much as Tenant has. Matt Smith's show of fear is just a serious face. Tenant does a great job at fearing. Heck, he's even played an extra character when he had to be human and barely remember being a Timelord. But with that said, I still think he wasn't at his best performance for the 50th because he hasn't been the doctor for a awhile..it was like Tenant changed his doctor personality just a smidge, oh and his hair was shorter...unless timey wimey stuff happened. Was the 10th doctor in this episode after or before "End of Time"? I would guess before because he mentioned marrying queen Elizabeth in the part one: end of time. His hair grew fast. Or he was avoiding the oods for a long while.

Favourites:
9th - The Empty Child
10th - School Reunion
11th - Snowmen or Asylum Of The Daleks or The Doctor's Wife

Since 10 regenerated at the end of the End of Time story I reckon the one we saw in Day of the Doctor was from before then. Probably between Waters of Mars and End of Time. Certainly after The Shakespeare Code, because in that one he didn't know what Elizabeth's problem with him was ;)

Damn, now I have to add The Waters of Mars to my list. Far and away the best of Tennent's final year.

Actually I'm hoping for a little less goofing about.

I hear what you're saying, but surely you have to appreciate that Smith even made wearing a fez quite cool because it suits him. At least his love of the fez is endearing. That moment in DOTD where he spots the fez and delightedly points to it is comedy gold.

It's the idiomatic eccentricity of each incarnation of the Doctor that makes him the Doctor. Look at Tom Baker's use of the Jelly Baby.

Do you mean this scene:

River Song:
Right then I have questions, but number 1 is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?

Doctor:
It’s a fez. I wear a fez now. Fezzes are cool.

Before it is summarily destroyed in a combined effort by Amy and River?

:)
