Morning. I'm trying to decide if I should attempt a journey into Wichita. My two wheel drive extended cab doesn't get much traction. My other option is to take the wife's front wheel drive grand am but it's so low to the ground it will bottom out everywhere. My best option is to walk lol.

Decisions - decisions - I'd say stay home if you can.

I traded in my POS '94 Grand AM for a 4x4. I have performance tires on my truck so the snow/ice traction isn't the best, but the 4wd capability does improve on that. Hated the Grand AM - had to replace the head twice in 6 months:mad:, for some reason it ATE starters (went through 4 in 2 years), tranny would no longer go into OD, it would run very hot (near overheat) unless I had the AC running:confused: (no fun in winter), and a slew of other issues. At least I got twice what it was worth on the trade-in;). Dealer sent it straight to auction.

We've had decent luck with the wife's 04. We bought it new and haven't done much to it beyond normal maintenance. It's made two trips from Kansas to Arizona. Other than that it's one of those... "driven by a little old school teacher" cars... literally.
I don't like the car that much but I don't drive it very often. The wife on the other hand loves the car and when we replace it she will likely get another or something similar. I think sometimes you just get lucky and other times you have a lemon. The worst auto I ever owned was a 79 Ford 150 van. It was the very definition of POS.
I think the only thing I didn't replace was the rear view mirror.
I will not buy an extended cab truck again. I like the space back there but it's just too damn long and heavy. I average just over ten mpg and it's impossible to park anywhere. I will also opt for 4wd next time around. There are too many days like today where driving a two wheel truck is a nightmare.
I owned a 73 jeep 4x4 back in the mid seventies. It had no creature comforts but talk about fun in the snow. That thing was a blast. Was terrible on ice with it's short wheel base but on snow it went like crazy.

I have an Explorer Sport Trac. so it is esentially a crew cab with a short bed. The length and weight are essentially the same as the Explorer so not too bad to handle. I love the room in the cab, but sometimes wish the bed was a little longer. I average 17-18 mpg.
Love to get me an old jeep like that, they are a blast! When I was in High School, a friend had an old ('46 I think) Willy's. It may not have been very fast, but I swear it would climb a tree:D.

Another bilzzard... sheesh! This is getting old. Otherwise... hello my incredible friends.

I gave all that fun stuff up and moved to San Diego last fall. Where it's 76 degrees outside right now! I hate moving but this was the best move I've made in years! :D

I have a daughter that has property in Phoenix and San Jose. It almost pisses me off to talk to her this time of year.
As for the Jeep... it was a lot of fun. The only vehicle I sold for more than the purchased price. It had the rag top so it was colder than hell in the winter. Cold or not it was a gas to run around town when traffic was stopped. I drove it to Colorado once and took it on some less than easy trails. It was fantastic! The drive through western Kansas during August to get to Colorado was hell however. No AC and the tires was the only thing you could hear for miles and miles was torture. I thought my wife was going to leave me and fly home. It was a treat once we got to the mountains and driving every old miners path we could find. We took it down the side of one mountain to a wreck off of angel pass I think. That was the best test of the jeep. Getting down the side was tough but getting back to the one lane road was all up hill around trees and such... man it was fun. I had an electric wench on the front so I could cable my way back up the path from tree to tree. It was an adventure I'll remember for ever.
I bought the jeep in 75 for $1,700 and sold in in 78 for two grand. At the time I did a lot of bragging about the deal but now I just hang my head and wished I still had it.

I grew up in Colorado, we would take my friend's Willy's and my Dad's old 71 Bronco and hit the old mining trails. I sure miss those days. Of course, you never go off trail without a good winch. Never got stuck in the Willy's but quite often had to winch the Bronco out of some spots.

Ah.... Colorado. Such a beautiful state! I spent most every summer as I was growing up vacationing/camping in that great state. We most often stayed up around Lost Man Lake on Independence Pass. Great fishing and nobody was up there. We'd make a trip or two while we were there into Aspen for supplies. A quaint four block square town back in the sixties. My best bud and I revisited the area the summer after we graduated from high school. We planned to camp and fish and escape. When we got to Aspen and up the pass it was a genuine disappointment. Not only was it extremely commercialized but it was dry and hot that summer and the campers had literally raped the land. It was so damn sad.
We ended up driving across the state and spending a month outside of Durango up the million dollar highway between Ouray. We found a unworked mineral lease to camp on and we never got run off of or even bothered while we were there. The area was much like I remembered the late fifties and sixties Colorado that was to die for.
I have not camped in Colorado since my trip with the wife in the mid seventies. I'm sure it is worse now than it was then. Give man a chance and he will shit on about everything... even the beauty of natural Colorado.

What's up homie!!!!! You keepin cool? Quit smoking yet? I did last year and it's the best decision I've made in a long time.

Except when you see people smoke or smell it - its annoying. For some reason it bothers me most when I see good looking girls smoking. That triggers me.

Long time no see Jamor. Go Buffs! I was born in Boulder.

Hell yea go BUFFS! Born in Boulder huh?!

So did you go to Boulder High or Fairview? I always wondered what it would be like as a kid growing up in a college town.

The Buffs have themselves a basketball team this year.

Hell yea. The loss against Texas was really disappointing though.

2 Football players from CU are high on the NFL Draft Short List too!

LT - Nate Soldier and CB - Jimmy Smith.

Good to see they are getting their sports program back together - Finnnally.

Other notables -

Chauncey Billups (Denver Nuggets)
Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers)

I've smoked maybe 4 cigs in 8 sittings in the past 8 or 9 days, very soon it will all be a distant memory.

And oh how o know what you mean, was all good till i had to be stuck in car with the old lady for almost an hour:( The was horrible!! When someone at work goes out to smoke then walks up to me... i wanna punch them in the throat!! LOL

I've not had a cigarette in 1 month, 5 days and 18 hours:D. I'm finding that when others around me are smoking, it is bothering me less and less.

I actually went to Adams City High in Commerce City. While I was born in Boulder, my family lived just west of the old Rocky Mountain Arsenal at the time (essentially just outside the gates).

I agree that it's great to see the sports program getting back on track.

I know lol. Offensive as hell after you quit!

Nice - you have it down to the days! It's been about 8 months for me since I've had a cigarette but for some reason it feels like it has been 2 years... I wasn't always heavy smoker but I was smoking for about 7 years. I smoked the most freshman year at the dorms because everybody else was always going out for one.

I almost caved in a couple weeks ago but good thing I didn't. It was really weird because normally I could care less - my body doesn't crave the nicotine anymore. But every once in a while I get a strong craving.

To quitting!! AY AY!
