Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

i am seeing what looks like a sense UI refresh. saw it last night first time. i was in a bad signal area browsing market and phone just froze a second. then it got black and i saw the HTC logo seen doing OTA updates and it refreshed back to the home screen. it wasnt a full reboot. i will see if i can trap video later today of the "refresh."

My sense UI did the same thing a number of times. One time it was stuck and completely gone for a few minutes....that freaked me out before it came back.
My phone also started rebooting a few weeks ago...only a few times a day. This week it was more frequent and the last few days have been horrible. Every 10 minutes its rebooting. It could be sitting on the desk, on the internet, on the phone, driving in a different city, doing an app, texting...it doesnt matter where, when or what I'm doing...it will just reboot. I finally called today HOPING I would get a customer service rep that could tell me something to do to help out..or maybe that they were trying to fix the glitch....I called that special unpublished Verizon repair number...She said she had never heard that before and thought a new phone would fix it. I told her there are LOTS of people with the same problem and what if the problem had something to do with the cell towers...she said she didnt think it was and still thought a new phone would do the trick. I dont think it will...but at this point I'm willing to try it because every time I'm doing something on the phone it reboots..I am dreading trying to setup the new one and download the apps, etc...

Does anyone else have the increasing frequency of reboots over the last weeks? Is it getting bad? I just want to keep my old phone because I love it but I cant do anything on it now!:(

the sense UI isn't as big of an issue. think of it as the Windows desktop crashing and rebooting itself.

My Eris never rebooted, even after installing the 2.1 leak. Rock Solid

I LOVE my Incredible but am worried that even with my new phone which is coming monday...there will be so many reboots that it will be unusable. What if its because of the area I live in? I'm starting to think maybe I should just go with reliable Eris?

I love my Incredible too, but except for the Inc's larger screen and faster processor, I liked the Eris better...I wish HTC had included the chrome "call end/power" and "call" buttons that the Eris has on either side of the track ball. The power button on the Inc. is not the easiest to operate with one hand.

Mine's rebooted twice now (second time on my way to work today while it was asleep). I've also had a couple camera freezes. I called Verizon to ask if there was anything I could/should do and was told they recommend sending me a new phone since it's been < 30 days.

I explained to them that, a new phone wasn't what I was after but wasn't going to argue about getting a new one. I asked the Tech if she thought this was hardware/software or what.

I didn't get the impression she really had any idea. She told me that smartphones sometimes reboot... I explained to her that I've had PDA's and PDA phones for quite some time... HP Jornada's IPAQ's XV6900, iPhone... Not one of them ever rebooted while asleep. I've crashed them plenty of times, but not a random reboot.

I'm guessing there's probably a crap driver that's going to end up being the root cause, since just some app dying wouldn't reboot the phone. Something that is causing the kernel to panic and reboot...

She also said I should have my new one Tuesday. I was quite surprised about that, I thought these things were way backordered.

I got the Incredible for myself and my wife. We live in Houston, TX. Her's was delivered May 6th via FedEx, mine on May 9th. We both love them!

Then on Wednesday (the 19th), the dreaded reboots started hitting my phone. At the start of the day, I noticed one or two, but by the evening, it rebooted itself into some kind of lockdown and wouldn't even power on. It woke up only after I plugged in the usb cable. I've tried all the solutions discussed on every forum I've come across. None successful.

So I took it in to a Verizon store to lodge my complaint last night. They said they'd had no reports of rebooting Incredibles in my area, but ordered a new one for me that'll be delivered to the store next week.

The weirdest part is that my wife's phone has just been marching along without a single issue. And my co-worker also has had a great experience. So I'm just left perplexed at what might be the cause, and I'm very skeptical a new phone is going to fix this, but I'll give it a shot.

For 9 days, I couldn't say anything better about how freaking awesome this phone is... but now... eh... I just want it to stop with the reboots already. 3 days of them is already wearing on me.

I think there are 2 problems here. Most here have issues with the Inc rebooting occasionally when in a low signal area. For me it is like 3-5 times a week. Those who are having their phones constantly reboot all day long should get a replacement because this is not the issue that most of us on this thread are having.

tried to re-create last night and it just reboots full now. didnt have this at all with the first phone i had. its rebooting in the same place i was sitting for the first two weeks with phone #1; that did nothing of this nature. granted it is a bad signal area (-100+) i suppose i should have just kept the phone that freezes every 4 pics or so and dealt with it. getting so close to the 30 day mark, decision looming. this is very frustrating. :(

My uptime is now 201 hours. No reboots obviously and no issues since setting System Select to HOME. I've taken this phone everywhere and plenty of dead zones including the NYC Subway, etc. with zero issues.

Just my 2 cents.

So I'm pretty sure my phone doesn't have any reboot issues, my uptime is now more than 240 hours or 10 days!! That means it hasn't rebooted in 10 days so that's pretty good. I'm going to keep it going. My HTC Hero (as slow as it was) could easily go months without a reboot. Love Android :D

Hey guys, I have a sneaking suspicion that your "random reboot" problem is caused by the same endless loop that causes the "silent call" bug on Hero and Eris and random reboots on the G1.

Can someone who's tech-savvy get the random reboot to happen while plugged into the computer and running DDMS or a logcat? I guarantee it will help your case with Verizon if you can show exactly what's happening in the phone right before it reboots.

the first few weeks i only saw a re-boot every few days if that.

Now in the last few days i have seen it reboot about 8 times.

I get a -99 signal in my home and only live 5 min from downtown seattle.

Hopefully there is a fix for this coming soon..

Just when i thought that i had absolutely no issues with the phone...

I still love the sh1t out of my incredible.

Man, I just moved to Seattle yesterday from SoCal and was hoping my two random reboots down there were related to the towers there or something like the first reboots in NC. Guess we'll see how it goes...

I got my phone on the 12th (wow i thought i had it much longer than that, freaking finals are killing me), and Ive had one reboot (that i know of) since, it happened when my signal was way bad, I fell asleep on my phone in the basement, the vibrate of the phone turning back on woke me up. I live in NYC.

I have had the Incredible since the week in came out. I experience 1-10+ random reboots a day. Twice during calls. The reboots render the alarm clock completely useless, which has really sucked for me on two occasions.

I've been into Verizon twice to complain about this... They indicated both times they were aware of no other reports(!?) Hard to tell if this is HW, SW or network related...I kind of doubt it is the network because I've experienced the problem across the country and in 'airplane mode'.

I really hate to have the device replaced and go through all the setup/customization again only to have continued problems.

HTC/Verizon???

HTC/Verizon do not monitor or read these forums.

If you are having the random reboot problem you MUST call verizon and insist on creating a Trouble Ticket. Without trouble tickets they will not fix the problem.

Thanks... already called... requested a new phone after getting "I've never heard of this" from 2nd level support. Wish I would have had this 'special' number beforehand. Thanks for sharing!

Anyone else in the Ca area with this problem?? Mine isn't too often but it does happen...usually when the browser is slow. I've had it since the release date and it's only happened about four times but still I don't like it lol

I have had this only happen once while in hand. However, I have noticed that it may have happened a couple of times while I was sleeping. I too think it might be low signal problems, but perhaps it's a problem with over-the-air updates? Does it do these in the background?

Do we have any updates on this situation yet? I'm in Ohio as well, and both my wife's and my Incredible keep restarting while they're just sitting there.

I got like one more week before my 30 days is up, so I'm wondering it it's something that will be fixed by a software update or if I should swap it out for one the of the new ones coming into the store in hopes the issue has been fixed.
