Help DROID Incredible random restart/reboot problem

Have you removed all of your apps and done a factory reset. Then use the phone for a few days without the apps to see if that fixes it.

99% of the time it is an apps fault but you have to do some work to figure out what app it is. Sometimes its a combo of app. Sometimes its because you didn't undo some app specific settings before you removed it and that can screw up your phone.

Also in Ohio and having random reboots. It just started this week, and I've had my INC since launch date in April. No new apps recently installed, so I don't think the app conflict is the source.

No I haven't tried that.

How much of a hassle is that?

It seems like it's happening to everyone. It's got to be something with the phone. I'm just wondering if I gamble on a new one hoping the new shipments are fixed or wait for a software update (if it even is software).

Not bad only on #5 in 14 days and 3 of the 5 have come while doing the same thing so maybe not really random. Turn on my bluetooth and try to send a file from computer to phone and REBOOT! When phone reboots I get a force close of system process. And the phone is not fully functional, power off phone and instead it reboots again and freezes on lock screen, then have to pull battery. Once it boots bluetooth is still enabled and file sends just fine! Has happened exactly like this 3 times.

I'm down in Florida and my reboots have become more frequent over the past week. I've seen someone mention that changing the network to Home only rather than automatic may help stop it, but it doesn't seem to have worked for me. I haven't seen anything mentioned about possible causes.

For the love of god, change System Select to HOME. That will fix reboots for most people.

This is a dumb question, but what exactly does that do?

What's "home" to it? I'm assuming it will only look for roaming signals when it's home, but where's home?

I think home is Verizon's network.
I tried switching my DI to Home Only, but I was still having reboots. Hopefully it helps someone else.

The only place I've had reboots is at home. We barely have a signal out here. It's awful and we're in a populated area. Anyways, when we moved here, the signal blew, so we got one of those verizon network extenders. The thing worked perfectly, it took our 0-1 bar to a full 4-5 bars.

When we got the incredible, our signal was still showing 0-1 bar. So I thought maybe we have to link it somehow to the extender. I didn't remember doing that before though, just entering our phone number in our account online. So our bars would show no to low signal, but when I called someone, it would beep to tell you it was on the extended network and I haven't dropped a call, which I was doing all the time before getting the network.

I did some googling and saw someone say that the extender does work with it, it just doesn't show the bars for some reason, which is obviously what's happening to me.

So I should be getting full signal here, but still rebooting like others are that seem to think it's a low signal problem.

Does that help anyone figure out anything or did I just waste everyone's time?

I was kinda hoping that the recent update (to software number 1.22.605.2) was to help the rebooting issue since I think someone mentioned they worked out the issue with the Motorola towers, but if anything my reboots have gotten worse. What kind of experience are others getting?

Another Incredible suffering the random reboots here in Northern VA. Had the phone about a month, and it only started with the random reboots during the last week or so. Had two reboots today, and it does seem that most or all of them happen at or near the house. I started wondering if it was due to one of the apps I have installed, and finally started doing some research when I ran across this thread. I went ahead and updated the PRL, so we'll see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'll actually have to start paying more attention to it and try some of the other solutions recommended here.

I called the unpublished number and the guy goes "where'd you get this number from?" haha. He sounded kind of annoyed. He transfered me to tech support though and she said they weren't creating anymore case numbers on it because it's a known problem and they're trying to figure it out.

I just had her put a note in my account that said I called because when it comes out 2 months from now that it's a hardware problem, I'd be pretty mad if I can't get a new phone.

My uptime is now 201 hours. No reboots obviously and no issues since setting System Select to HOME. I've taken this phone everywhere and plenty of dead zones including the NYC Subway, etc. with zero issues.

Just my 2 cents.

I wish this worked for me. My phone reboots itself even when I'm not going anywhere or have a strong signal. Anyone have other suggestions that have worked for them? I'm getting pretty annoyed because my reboots have started happening while I'm even on calls.

My phone started rebooting when I was using GPS on a trip. It then began to reboot about every 5 minutes or so. After a few cycles of restarting every five minutes, it began to overheat and reboot about every minute or so. I have very basic applications installed and don't use data much. I brought my phone into a verizon store and they told me to do a factory reset, which made little difference in the frequency of reboots. I finally gave up and called for a replacement... According to the CSR, this issue does not appear anywhere in her system... However, he did not ask too many questions and seemed to just accept that the phone was defective.

Ive been experiencing this issue much more frequently than i originally thought. I've downloaded the SDk, Eclipse, and the plugin and I am trying to learn how to develop Android applications & want to write an app that will help solve this issue, but I need help getting started with the SDK. I've never programmed in Java before...

Any android developers on here want to help me understand this stuff?

Thanks.

My reboots almost always happen as I am arriving at or leaving home. I think it has something to do with the Wifi <shrug>

Well my Incredible randomly rebooted again tonight. It had done this once during the first week of ownership, then not again that I knew of. I started another post weeks ago about missing calls in the middle of the night and thinking it was a google voice issue. Well, I think I know the problem now.....random freak reboots. This is unacceptable for me as I head up an emergency call team for surgery at night for my local hospital. Just great, my 30 days was up a few days ago, and I have to have a phone that simply works enable to properly perform my job. Hmmmmm.......

Anyone else having problems with their Incredible crashing and rebooting? Happened to me first a week ago, I thought it was a fluke while sending a txt message it randomly rebooted. Today it happened again while listening to the mp3 player with the screen locked and in my pocket.

There are phones that are broken and reboot many times per day. That needs to be replaced. Most of us on this thread have phones that work fine and just reboot a few times a week.
