***Droid X Software Update***

i just did a forced check on the phone and it says the update service is down. I'm assuming it's down in preparation for this OTA.

Yeah, they don't want to send it out to everyone at once for a couple reasons. First, that would cause huge bandwidth problems. Second, what if it causes some phones to brick? You want that occurrence to be a small percentage of a small number, not a small percentage of a large number.

Got my OTA update at about 6:00 am central southwest kansas. Did a backup just in case, but didn't need it. Total update took no more than 10 minutes.

CRAP - realized this is the MOTO droid page, i got the eris droid. STUPID ME, wrong forum page.

Guys,

OTA updates are random. Location, date-of-purchase, "checkin" status, etc. will not affect when you get an update.

Usually, there is a manual download link provided for folks that don't get the rolling update, but this typically doesn't happen until most folks would/should have received it.

OTA's are a phased rollout. Devices will be sent the update over a period of a few weeks.

There is no reason to manually check for the update, unless you received the notification and ignored/dismissed it.

Manually checking does not force the update to your device.

Everyone gets that update when you first get the phone. the update that is being discussed by everyone else is a different update. Not 2.1-update1

I understand what you are saying. What I don't understand is that it said one was available, did a download and installed it. Yet still the same update as before.
