Droid X Vs. Incredible

You really had to tell everyone? lol

I believe he did. Just like I have to tell everyone that I have no interest in a fugly phone with an uncrackable bootloader. If you want to live by motorola's rules I pity you, but I bought into android for freedom.

In a few months a new phone will come out and those who get the new phone will bash on the moto x, let them have their moment.

Keep in mind that a Droid Incredible with the 2150 battery has longer battery life than any smartphone by a long shot. If you still have battery issues, then your problem is not the device but a severe software configuration issue.

The first thing I will say is that by default the software configuration on the Incredible is extremely battery intensive. It is in no way a configuration I would suggest anyone remain with.

Widgets suck up battery. By default there's quite a few widgets open. The friend stream widget itself uses a TON of juice. Consider using the Android Facebook app instead. Only use widgets you absolutely need.

Google Talk is set to sign in by default. If you don't use it, set it to not sign in when you turn on the phone.

Consider closing the weather widget and opening a weather app when you want to know the weather. Also set the weather app to not sync in the background, have it update weather info only when you open it.

Other apps you have installed might have "run on startup" configuration settings. Fring does. Disable these and only open the app when you need it.

For the apps that you must keep data sync on with, consider making them check for new data less often.

Disable Flash in the browser. Enable it only when you need it but remember to disable it again afterwards.

Under no circumstance should you keep any kind of instant messenger app like AIM or Ebuddy or Meebo open at all times. These are very battery inefficient because of a very constant data stream. Use them when you want to chat but then shut them down when you're done.

Change the screen setting away from auto brightness and then set the brightness to 30-40%. You will find that it looks perfectly fine at such a setting and you'll get better battery life.'

Refrain from using live wallpapers. If you really really want to stretch your battery, set your desktop background to a blank black picture. The OLED screen uses less power displaying black than anything else.

Turn off as much vibration as you can. That motor can really suck up juice if activated a bunch over the course of a day. I turn vibration off for the 4 main buttons, typing, and in all games that have it. I leave vibration on for calls.

Those are the tips that I can think of for the moment. Android is a fully customizable operating system that does not hold your hand. It will let you run anything you want at any setting without warning you about the consequences.

Get out! I spent my entire relationship with my Moto Droid trying to disable Google Talk. Seriously, on the Incred I can do that? :D:D:D:D

To those considering the Droid X over the Incredible, I hope you're not planning on modding or rooting the phone...

Droid X actually self-destructs if you try to mod it

If the eFuse failes to verify this information then the eFuse receives a command to “blow the fuse” or “trip the fuse”. This results in the booting process becoming corrupted and resulting in a permanent bricking of the Phone. This FailSafe is activated anytime the bootloader is tampered with or any of the above three parts of the phone has been tampered with.

My verizon plan is up (bb) and am debating which phone to get next. Leaning towards the Inc. I was in a Verizon store this morning and played with the X a little. It's big. Maybe not massive. But for me, too big. I also did not like the physical buttons vs the inc. Personally I would not get the X, but I am sure it will sell very well.

just switched this morning

love the size of the x, love the screen

but the 3g is brutally awful compared to the incredible

never read anything about that in a review, i almost wonder if i got a dud

yikes that sounds awful, too bad

I thought having Sense / having to wait for Android updates was bad, but in reality Sense is totally fine. but the combo of horrible UI + self destruct = awful.

Three Cheers for all of us who didn't trade-in or switch the order to the Droid X. After hearing news of the locked bootloader and efuse, I am so happy I stuck with Incredible.

Just played with it in the store, its fast, feels study, and makes me even more sad I don't have my Inc yet, but its HUGE. No way I would put it on my belt or fit it in my pocket. Also, I love the HTC sense, and without it the phone isn't the same.

Here is hoping my 2nd INC gets here fast and works well.

Too big for me, and now that I'm rooted and overclocked, my phone is zippy as can be! I also don't experience the signal loss that other users have reported, however my calls can be muddy at some times, but nothing too bad! I definitely have the right phone for my needs.

Glad I didn't think twice either. After hearing that blur is a POS on top of what should have been a fantastic device, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that we have Sense. Clearly a superior interface.

I went into a store today and messed with one... it's way too big, and the scrolling between the homescreens was kind of choppy. Couldn't be happier with my Incredible.

WAYYYY too big for me and my small woman hands. I tried out an EVO a few weeks back and found it difficult to hold, I'm sure I would have the same issue with the Droid X.

The Incredible is the perfect size and I love it. I'm so not trading this in.

I know I don't really have the pocket issue that a lot of guys here on the forums have complained about (yay purses and bags) but I still need to be able to hold the phone

Overclocked!? Why would you need to overclock a Dinc? How much did you overclock it? Is it stable? Does it get super hot? Not sure I understand your logic...

I have so far tested two X's. One in the confines of Best Buy and the other at the area around a VZW corp store. With the fancy antenna array of the X, I expected the signal to be better, but both were within 1 to 2 dBm and ranged -71 in strong locations and -98 in weaker locations.

Only issue was when they both showed -71dBm, the X showed full bars and the Inc showed two. Both streamed the same HQ Youtube vids perfectly. Inc needs a bar fix ASAP, since giving it a bad rep for wrong reason (fake lower bars). Well, that and the sporadic garbled call quality.

The X display looks better than the EVO's, so that was a nice surprise. I may have bought the X if same time launch as Inc, but the one issue of pause (besides battery blocking sd card) is the sound quality from external speaker and especially from the 3.5mm is not as good as Inc. X sounds just as weak from 3.5mm as Droid.

Gizmodo did a review of the Droid X today. It wasn't exactly glowing...

Gizmodo's Droid X Review

Basically comes down to HTC's Sense vs. Moto's Blur. Sense wins. Blur is apparently such a drag as to ruin the whole device, in this reviewer's eyes.

I sensed a bit of a iPhone bias, though.

Just got some hands-on time with the Droid X today and so far here are my impressions:

  • It's big. I knew it would be big, but it's too big for my liking. I feel much more comfortable being able to grip the entire phone and operate it at the same time. Now there are a lot of people with big hands...this is probably the phone for them, but not me. I think there are more people with "small" hands than "big" hands anyways, so that's going to be a CON from me.
  • "MotoBlur" - call it what you want, but it is a slightly skinned version of 2.1 and after playing with it for a while I'm not a fan. They've decided to get rid or change the functionality of some of the stock android widgets as well. The one I ran across was the contacts shortcut - you won't be able to get the options of calling, texting or viewing contacts without exiting the home screen to a full window.
  • The hardware is great, feels sturdy as a rock and prefer it over the Incredible's "plasticy" feeling.
  • Phone seemed to slow down at times when switching screens, unsure what was causing that
  • Blockbuster app seems like it runs 24/7 from what I could tell
  • When installing a launcher application you won't be given the option of returning to the default home (by clicking home). Might have to uninstall to get back to the "real" home

Overall the hardware itself is great - it's fast, strong and packs a punch. However, the software is horrible. I would've preferred stock 2.1 and with the rumor that it will be difficult to get custom ROMs on this, I wouldn't look to those for help.

In the end, I'll be sticking with my Droid Incredible. I would love the performance of the Droid X, but don't necessarily need it for the applications and operations I use/do daily. You will only see a speed increase in some games and that's about it....so basically: sure it's fast, but nothing needs it to be that fast.
