Droid X Vs. Incredible

Other than that fascinate and that odd Evo slidey keyboard thing, are there any other smart phones coming to Verizon? I hear rumors on the Iphone(havn't those been around forever) something called the "epic" and possibly the Evo? I REALLY love the the phones out there now, but if im stuck with a phone for 2 years, I would be willing to wait another 6 months for the perfect one.

There is no phone, in the history of phones, that is worth being stuck with for 2 years. Do yourself a a favor and sign a 1 year contract.

There is no such thing as "the perfect one" as technology is ever evolving. Pic something you can live with and hope that nothing amazing comes out within 6 months...

I disagree with that one. The phones out today are terrific. What people need to remember is that if they're happy with it today they CAN be happy with it in 2 yrs or more. Just don't be so gullible and fall for the marketing and advertising. That's a big problem we have in the US....only ever briefly satisfied with what we have until we need to get our new "fix" prescribed to us by govt. and corporations.

I do appreciate your perspective and I respect your opinion but I stand by my original statement. :)

Not to get too far off topic, but I agree as well. I signed a two year contract for the first time in 6 years of being a Verizon customer, however, I understand that if the phone you get meets your needs today, you should expect for it to do the same for two years.

I think we just went through a spike of technology advancement, except for LTE and Google TV, I'm not sure phones are going to advance over the next 2-3 years as fast as they have over the past 1-2 years. There are some exciting this coming, but not as exciting as they were a year ago. Let's face it, Android has exploded on to the scene and it will only get better. If you are happy with your phone and want to save around $50, then sign a 2 year.

For me, I'll pay a little extra now and then see what is available 10 months later... :)

Yeah I agree with this. That way I pay 2 months pay to get a new phone SOONER rather than being stuck with something thats "pretty good, but not the best", for a whole extra year.

wish i would have knew they do 1 year i would have done that cause i upgrade every year anyway... now im new to verizon do they give a free upgrade in similar price to what you start out with? and like att lets you upgrade in like 18 months if you always pay your bill on time etc. does vzw do the same and charge just a slightly higher price than the 2 year price?

If your the main line and registered for "MyVerizon" (pay your bill online) then you get an annual upgrade every 12 months where you can resign at 2 year pricing. Fine print says there is a $20 fee to do an annual upgrade but I have never payed it.

If you sign a 1 year contract you are eligible to upgrade at 12 months. If you sign a 2 year you are eligible at 20 months.

So I guess I should retract my previous statement and say if your the primary line then go ahead and sign a 2 year contract because you get a new phone every 12 months anyways. If you are a secondary line I would never sign more than a 1 year contract at most. And half my lines I wont even sign a 1 year contract on, I just pay full retail so you don't get stuck in contract.

I am the primary line of 3 and I don't see where it says it when I'm my line it says 19 months to upgrade and I'm a new customer

In the last 6-7 years I have had 2 phones (The Incredible being my 3rd) I used a Nokia for about 3 years and a Motorolla Razor for almost 4.

The Incredible is already 6 months old and still the best smartphone out today. While in 6 more months I would not expect it to be "the top" phone any longer I know one thing it will still be going strong in my hand.

I plan on using the Incredible for at least the 2 years of my contract if not more. I just went through all the trouble of rooting and setting it up the way I want it I am not going to be parting with this bad boy anytime soon.

Droid X user considering switching to INC. I have had the X for three days. I am a huge phone user, have not been willing until this week to step up to a smartphone... but I did with the x. However, I have yet to make it through the day with the battery. Today I was so frustrated, I made it exactly 6 hours and the phone died. I do not use much yet on the phone: gmail notifications. I text, today maybe 6 or 7 texts. Light phone use, so maybe 7 calls, longest 15 mins. I do not have any social apps at all, no live background thingys really I have barely even started to utilize the X capabilities, but I am headed back to VZW tomorrow to return the X.

Seriously, 6 hours? I am way to busy on my phone to have to find a power source. I also have very small hands and find the X a bit awkward to hold onto. I am not familiar with the INC except through this forum, but headed in to check it out tomorrow. I also find the weight of the X a little challenging, I spend alot of time not caring a purse, and am used to putting a phone in a small pocket or a sweater or a jacket, and yeah the X doesnt fit in my clothes, maybe the INC will feel a little better.

I really appreciate the input from everyone, especially the really long post concerning turning off multiple apps that might be running in the background, even though I didnt know they were even running, good input thank you! I will also explore an extended battery for the INC if I pursue it.

Thank you.

Norton there are a million good reasons to pick the Incredible over the X...

...Battery life is not one of them.

If your main concern is battery life stick with what you have.

Hand 76, can you tell me what a "rooted droid" means?

So, battery life on the inc is dodgy as well? URG?... I really rely on my phone. Its my work. Urg. Hmmm.

Get an extended battery or buy a spare to cary around with you during the day.

I just keep a spare micro-usb cable in my office, to charge it if I need to. For my work/school (Math grad student/TA) that works well, since I'm constantly surrounded by computers. Your mileage may vary.

And with the $15 HTC extended battery, the battery life is decent. Not great, but decent. If you need to be away from electricity and your car you can get the gigantic batteries.

Well I just got an x. So far I like it. I've had a droid for bout a month and I did love it but I had to make sure I didn't like the x better. Only negative thing about the incredible is the screen size. If they would have made it 4" instead of 3.7 it would be just about perfect. This x screen is huge! Sooo easy to read. And its easier to read in the sun light as well. The only problem I have is the awkwardness of the size. It fits in my pocket just fine but trying trouble onehand it can be quite awkward. And the battery sux just as bad as the stock incredible does. Only thing for the incredible is u can get an extended battery and you can't for the x. Other than that its preference

I tried out the Dx while my wife was using my Incredible. I usually got around 10-12 hours with moderate-heavy use. I did go back to the Incredible because I think the total user interface is much better, plus, the Dx "felt" un-natural in my hand. When I got my Incredible back, it was like..."welcome home son, nice to see you, don't worry, my charge cord is handy", it felt great.

There are some things I like about both phones, I just like the Incredible better. My brother in law likes the bigger screen and does not care abotu things like color depth, or ease of use, or clunkyness. He LOVES his Dx.

Well I made it 2 days using the dx and that's all I could do. That is one huge phone! Screen is nice and big but just awkward to use. I make less mistakes using my dinc testing than I did using the dx. My dinc just feels more comfortable to use. I even downloaded the compact qwerty keyboard for the dx and it was so annoying having to keep reselling words cause it wouldn't learn. The dx is no doubt a great phone but I'm a dinc guy so I won't fight it anymore. I did the one year contract so I'm not even going to go into a phone store till that year is up! I mite try the rocketfish case for my dinc tho. It looks like a really nice case. It's the thinnest one I have found. And my 1850 mugen extended battery works awesome and lasts at least a full day and part of another with moderate to heavy use.

I had a similiar problem with my X. My X could sit on my desk and drop 10% - 15% battery life an hour while unused.

To resolve the battery drain issue I removed different apps that might be causing battery drain and purchased the extended battery. I can't be too certain, but when I removed the "Rainy Days" app (weather radar) and the "Yellow" app (Yellow Pages) I noticed a significant change in battery life on both my X and my wife's X. Which app was causing it - I don't know. To be honest, I don't even know if either was the cause. All I know is my battery life got significantly better after I removed them. My guess is one of them was continually updating my location. I didn't use either one enough to put them back on the phone one at a time to figure which one it might have been.

The extended battery works wonders. On paper it provides 20% more life but in real time use I now go all day without a charge with a decent amount of use. With moderate to low use I get 2 days. If phone size/weight is already an issue, the extended battery does add a few grams of weight.

I've never owned an Inc so I really can't compare the two. I just like technology (the Inc is a cool piece of tech) and like to read other forums.
